23.01.2022 A prototype of an Incense Roaster I am making. The loose Incense I make is best when it roasts slowly, instead of smouldering on a charcoal. It is infused with essential oils and the essences from the oils, wood chips, herbs and resins smell divine when they are heated rather than burnt. 22.01.2022 It has taken a lot of experimentation to come up with my incense and essential oil blends. They each have 9 ingredients which can take quite a bit to get balanced right so they all work together. There have been times where I have wondered if I should reduce the number, but the magical number 9 always returns. So I trust my instincts and continue to work with 9 ingredients. To come up with the final recipe I begin by choosing the ingredients that I feel are right for the seas...on. And then I do a lot of research in choosing the other ingredients. I usually end up with a long list. To refine the list down to 9, I work with each scent and compare them with every other scent. Some fit together perfectly, some not so well. After a lot of mixing, blending, testing I come to the final recipe. I am really pleased with this Spring Equinox blend. 16.01.2022 What does Ceremony mean to you? In the dictionary it is defined as "(a set of) formal acts, often fixed and traditional, performed on important social or religious occasions". As an OBOD member I have certainly taken part in ceremonies that fit that definition, but to me it is much more than that. To me Ceremony is all about transformation, making a change in ourselves and the space around us. Transforming the ordinary into something Sacred.... As an incense maker I am always experimenting with new blends. So I am always lighting incense, but when I do, I do it with Ceremony. * Firstly I prepare my space, this may just mean clearing up some ash from the previous ceremony, and gathering together what I will use. * Next I light some candles or oil lamps, this begins the transformation. I have done this enough now that I begin to experience change just by this simple act. * Then I prepare the incense by setting up the burner I am going to use and get the incense ready. * When I light the incense I give thanks to the spirits of the trees and plants that were used in its preparation. * As the incense begins to burn I visit each tree or plant in turn, in my mind, see it, smell it, give thanks to it. * And then I sit with the incense and receive in return, the blessings of each tree or plant. I am breathing in their essence, their energy, their life force. I receive this graciously. This often all happens within a few minutes and by these simple acts I have become changed by the experience. After this I often do other work while the incense continues to burn. 08.01.2022 For the last few months I have been reworking all of my incense. I have been buying ingredients in bulk, and refining my technique to make it more affordable. Today I started making my Spring Equinox Incense, rolling out a few batches of sticks. And making my first batch of loose incense. It is made with Benzoin, Birch bark, Blue Flag root, Calendula petals, Frankincense, Jasmine flowers, Norfolk Island Pine resin, Rose petals & Sandalwood chips.... And it's infused with my Spring Equinox Oil Blend made with Sweet Birch, Calendula CO2 Extract, Cypress, Honeysuckle, Jasmine Absolute, Lemon Myrtle, Blue Tansy, Violet Leaf Absolute & Wattle Absolute. The loose incense works best when heated, but is fine placing some straight on a charcoal. It smells divine. 04.01.2022 As a pagan and a Druid I was taught, and learnt about the Four Elements, but it wasn't until I studied Alchemy, that I discovered that I knew very little about them. That my mind could barely perceive of the enormity of them. That they are an integral part of all of creation. As the 3rd paragraph from the Emerald Tablet says: "Its father is the Sun; its mother the Moon. The Wind carries it in its belly; its nurse is the Earth. It is the otigin of All, the consecration of the Universe; its inherent Strength is perfected, if it is turned into Earth".

Meanwhile we've also been planting mangroves in West Bengal and Odisha to help in buffering low lying areas against rising sea levels and increasingly powerful storms as a result of climate change.
