22.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of Mens Health Week, a week that focuses on the health impacts of mens environments. Our people are our most important asset and their mental and physical wellbeing is crucial to ensuring we are prepared for anything. This year Mens Health Week highlights the importance of taking the time to have regular check-ups with a general practitioner and regular check-ins with your loved ones. Some of the work Fire and Rescue NSW is doing to support our pe...ople in this area includes the recruitment of Wellbeing Officers to support the roll out of mental health programs and enhancing our personal protective equipment to reduce our firefighters exposure to carcinogens. Tips from www.menshealthweek.org.au to manage your health: Be active in getting medical help if you don't feel well, have a problem that won't go away or notice unusual symptoms. It's OK to seek help - don't try to do everything on your own or bury problems. Talk to your partner, friends and workmates. Push hard to get the help you need to manage your life, work, family and financial needs. Partners - be proactive in helping your men and boys get the help they and you need. Use available hotlines, speak with professionals to get the best course of action and be persistent. Don't leave it too late to seek help. 19.01.2022 Great leadership by our latest recruits!

19.01.2022 Welcome to Open Day 2020! Normally, we would launch our Open Day with the very special kids at Westmead Children Hospital Burns Unit. We were unable to do that this year, but we did take them on a virtual tour through our busiest fire station City of Sydney 001 which you can watch in the video below. We'd love to share some good wishes with the kids, so leave a comment below and we will pass it on! Open Day has always been our most popular day on the calendar and for good re...ason. By opening our station doors every year and inviting you in, it gives us a chance to chat about who we are and what we do here at Fire and Rescue NSW. This year weve had to rethink the traditional and do things a little differently so while we couldnt open the station doors to you, we are doing the next best thing and bringing the station to you! So, thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you and speak with you throughout the next week! #FRNSWOpenDay2020 #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire

18.01.2022 Last week firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood were on their way back from grabbing lunch when a driver lost control of their car and crashed into a wall and nearby cars. The crew sprung into action and scooped up a lady standing near by. This is their story.

17.01.2022 Did you know we offer free Safety Visits? All you need to do is contact your local fire station to arrange one. During your Safety Visit, our crews will attend your home and check that you have working smoke alarms, that they are in good working condition, and are installed in suitable areas. If you do not have one, firefighters will install a long-life battery-powered smoke alarm as well as replace existing smoke alarm batteries all at no cost.... With your permission, firefighters will also ask you to show us around your home and property. This will allow us to give you personalised fire safety information including, but not limited to: - Cooking fire safety - Heaters and open fires - Common electrical safety - Barbecues and LPG cylinders - Bedroom heating and wheat bags Our firefighters will also provide advice on a fire escape plan in the event of a fire occurring in your home and how to call Triple Zero (000) to report emergencies. 15.01.2022 FRNSW Work Experience Program Postponed Unfortunately, due to the restrictions imposed by the NSW Department of Education regarding no more than 3 schools att...ending one location at the same time due to the COVID-19. FRNSW will unfortunately have to cancel the FRNSW work experience program immediately until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused. The work experience coordinator will be in contact with the schools once the restrictions have been lifted. Please understand that this decision was not taken lightly, but we feel it is in the best interest of the community and our firefighters.

12.01.2022 As the temperatures drop and we get closer to winter we see an increase in residential house fire and house fire related deaths. Today our Fire Investigation and Research team showed us just how easy it is for a fire to start in your home when a heater is left unattended. Remember always to keep furniture and blankets at least one meter from the heater, and not to overload powerboard as we head into the winter months.... For information on how to prepare your home for winter visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au/winter #PreparedForAnything #FRNSW #ProtectTheIrreplaceable

10.01.2022 PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT NSW Health is urging anyone who attended the Crossroads Hotel at Casula between Friday 3 July and Friday 10 July to: - immediately self-iso...late until 14 days after they were last there - get tested even if they have no symptoms - watch for symptoms and get retested should any respiratory symptoms occur - even if you get a negative test stay in isolation for 14 days. The warning follows confirmation of an additional four cases of COVID-19 directly linked to the hotel: - a South Western Sydney teenager who worked at the hotel on several days including 3 July - a close contact of this worker, a South Western Sydney woman in her 50s - a South Western Sydney woman in her 40s who had dinner at the hotel on 3 July - a Victorian man in his 20s who had dinner at the hotel on 3 July These four are in addition to the five previously reported cases in a woman in her 30s from South Western Sydney and a man in his 50s from the Blue Mountains who had dinner at the hotel on 3 July. This mans three household contacts have also been confirmed as positive for COVID-19. The total number of cases linked to the hotel is nine. None of these cases appear likely to have been the source of infection at the hotel. NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said anyone who either worked or visited the Crossroads Hotel from 3-10 July should isolate themselves for 14 days after they were last at the hotel, regardless of symptoms or test results, and be tested even if they are not displaying any symptoms. If you were at the Crossroads Hotel between 3 and 10 July you may be at risk of infection and you must isolate yourself to avoid spreading COVID-19 to others. While investigations are continuing, it is vital people get tested so we can try and establish the source of infection at the hotel. I encourage people to access a number of clinics at local hospitals at Campbelltown, Fairfield and Liverpool so people are tested as quickly as possible, Dr Chant said. Additional staff have been deployed to the pop-up clinic at the Crossroads Hotel to expedite those people who wish to be tested there. Testing is available at Liverpool, Campbelltown and Fairfield Hospitals at these locations: https://www.nsw.gov.au//how-to-protect-yourself-an/clinics Testing is also available through GP clinics. The pop-up clinic in the carpark of the Crossroads Hotel is open until 5pm today. As this clinic is quite busy, people are asked to be patient and attend the other clinics where possible. Its essential that we all take the risk of transmission very seriously and take steps to protect ourselves and loved ones: - If you have even mild symptoms, a cold or cough, get tested and stay home until youre cleared. - Keep your distance from others at all times even if you are well. - If you have been in Victoria, dont mix with other people until two weeks has passed. People who work in high-risk settings such as health care facilities or aged care homes must not to attend work if they have symptoms and must get tested immediately. People should also not visit relatives in these settings if they have even the mildest of symptoms or have recently returned from Victoria.

09.01.2022 We woke this morning to very dramatic footage of a catastrophic explosion in Beirut, Lebanon. News is now starting to surface that many of those killed were fir...efighters from the surrounding area who were dealing with the initial fire- which lead to the explosion. As a department with Lebanese emigrants currently working today in stations across NSW we keep these firefighters as well as their city and their country in our thoughts. See more

09.01.2022 This image shows why we tell kids and adults why its important to get down low and go go go if there was a fire in your house. The smoke layers are thicker and substantially hotter higher up. You have a better chance of escaping a fire by crawling along the floor to an exit. #frnsw #frnswmedia #preparedforanything

08.01.2022 PHOTOS WITH ALICE COOPER | Our crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 030 Lidcombe got a unique and exciting opportunity to be on stage with legendary rock star ...Alice Cooper at the #FireFightAustralia concert last Sunday, 16 February. 07.01.2022 Today we had Lauren, her mum and friends stop by the station with a ring stuck on her finger. Senior Firefighter Gardiner was able to come to the rescue cutting the ring off her finger. Laurens mum had seen on TV that firefighters are able to do this when they come to the station, she was right. Lauren was very happy getting her photo taken with SF Gardiner and her friend. I think its safe to say she has a new hero. #preparedforanything #17station #frnsw... Fire and Rescue NSW

04.01.2022 To most 343 is just a number. To nearly all firefighters around the world, it is a humbling reminder of the events that took place in New York on this day, 19 years ago. This is because on 9/11, 343 New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters did not finish their shift. The tragedy claimed the lives of 2977 innocent victims, and many continue to be impacted. To date, 227 additional firefighters have died with illnesses related to 9/11, with 27 names recently added to th...e FDNY World Trade Centre Memorial Wall. FRNSW shares deep and personal connections with FDNY, we will never forget the immediate and ongoing loss they were dealt and continue to deal with, all those affected are in our thoughts today. 04.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE There are a few changes that have taken place with the way FRNSW Drummoyne Firefighters operate that you may notice. We hope you understand and can help us through the next few weeks. Some of the changes include:... We are cancelling all non essential community engagements so we won't be able to visit your school or childcare centre to pass on fire safety messages for a while. If you visit a fire station for any non life threatening issues we are not going to be able to let you in. You may notice fire trucks at emergencies with fire fighters sitting inside. We are minimising the amount of fire fighters contact with the community. If you see us sitting in our fire trucks and not getting out this is not us being rude. Feel free to give us a wave from a distance as we'll be more than happy to wave back. We won't be able to show your kids our fire truck and let them sit in it for a while. And unfortunatly we won't be able to shake you hands for a while. Behind the scenes we are doing a lot of hard work to continously decontaminate our trucks, uniforms and fire stations to ensure us and our community are protected. Thanks for the support we could not do this without everyones support.

03.01.2022 ST FLORIANS DAY | Today marks St Florians Day - also known as International Firefighters Day. St Florian is the patron saint of firefighters. Today we celebrate the dedicated men and women who work each day to protect you, the irreplaceable. Whether its rescuing you from a car crash, providing emergency medical care to your loved one or humanitarian relief to your community - our firefighters do so much more than fight fire. We are #PreparedForAnything.... Today, we also remember all firefighters who have lost their lives while serving others. While we cant celebrate this important day the way we usually would; we join together in commemoration, as we stay apart. #FRNSW #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire #OurPeople

01.01.2022 Fire crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 020 Hurstville assisted by the Hazmat team from Alexandria responded to an emergency call regarding a mercury spill ...from a broken thermometer in a Hurstville home overnight. Crews attended the premises in full PPE and breathing apparatus where they found a person self-isolating due to a recent trip from China. The attending crews cleaned up the spill and rendered the area safe. While the situation was managed safely and appropriately by the attending fire and HAZMAT crews, this is a timely reminder for anyone seeking the assistance of Emergency Services to advise us if you are self-isolating when making a call for assistance. #FRNSW #COVID19 #PreparedForAnything #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #HAZMAT

01.01.2022 NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK | Did you know there is a science behind how we solve fire mysteries? Our Fire Investigation and Research Unit investigators have an interesting and unusual job. They observe, gather evidence and test different hypotheses to find out the origin and cause of fires. We even use dogs with a knack for sniffing out liquid fire accelerants. This work supports faulty product recalls, provides crucial information for police investigations, and also helps us... identify new fire risks, so we can help keep you safe.
