24.01.2022 EARLY ORTHODONTIC INTERVENTION . Some children can benefit enormously from an early phase of orthodontic treatment. At this age, teeth and jaws are still growing, so early treatment is aimed at utilising appliances that direct the growth relationship of the upper and lower jaws. . Here I have used D Gainer, also known as a limited fixed appliance for my patient, a combination of Damon orthodontic brackets placed on permanent front teeth and the first permanent molars.... . This appliance is used instead of a palatal expander to eliminate crowding in the upper jaw and to allow for a wider smile. Most of the time crowding in the lower jaw will self-correct spontaneously as the top is corrected. . This early, interceptive correction may prevent later removal of permanent teeth to correct overcrowding and/or surgical procedures to align the upper and lower jaws. Leaving such condition untreated until all permanent teeth erupt could result in a severe jaw discrepancy to achieve an ideal result with braces. . Great result for my little patient Peyten See more
24.01.2022 #TOOTHTIP Babies are born with a reflex to suck any object placed in their mouth. Most children naturally give-up the habit somewhere between 2-4 years of age. However, if thumb sucking continues past this age it can alter the normal growth of the jaws and cause significant misalignment of the front adult teeth as they erupt into the mouth. 4 common problems associated with thumb sucking are:... 1. Protrusive upper front teeth 2. Tipped back lower front teeth 3. Open bite 4. Crossbite If your childs thumb sucking habit does extend beyond the normal age, or if it has already started to alter the alignment of their teeth and jaw, then early orthodontic treatment may be required.
