19.01.2022 HEALTH OF ROSS FRESHWATER BASIN: The 2019 Townsville Dry Tropics Report Card indicated average conditions, with litter and habitat scoring moderate condition. Water quality, however, was looking better with a B grading despite nutrient concentrations within the Bohle River and Louisa Creek being high. With 135 hectares of riparian and less than one hectare of wetland vegetation being lost in between 2013-17, the habitat was scored as moderate progress toward achieving the man...agement target of no net loss. 17.01.2022 HEALTH OF ROSS ESTUARY: The 2019 Townsville Dry Tropics Report Card indicated water quality, litter and habitat were in good condition, with a B grading across the board. There appeared to be an increase in litter found at Apex Park and Cape Pallarenda but it had decreased at Pallarenda Beach, Rowes Bay, Shelley Cove and Aplin’s weir. Details of the full Report can be found at www.drytropicshealthywaters.org

15.01.2022 HEALTH OF THE OFFSHORE MARINE ZONE: The 2019 Townsville Dry Tropics Report Card indicated that the Offshore Marine Zone fared reasonably well with very good water quality. The habitat was found to be in moderate condition. Currently, there is no data available to score litter in the Offshore Marine Zone. Although coral cover was low, there was an abundance of juvenile corals which was scored as very good. For full report, go to https://drytropicshealthywaters.org/

05.01.2022 HEALTH OF HALIFAX BAY: The 2019 Townsville Dry Tropics Report Card indicated that Halifax Bay was in a relatively poorer condition compared with the other regions being graded. The bay’s habitat was given a moderate grade, with moderate water quality due to poor nutrient concentrations. Litter abundance increased in Halifax Bay, and was graded as poor due to large quantities occurring in Picnic Bay and South Beach. With a wide range of very poor to very good scores for the ma...cro algae and hard coral composition, the overall grade for coral was found to be in moderate condition. 03.01.2022 HEALTH OF BLACK FRESHWATER BASIN: The 2019 Townsville Dry Tropics Report Card indicated that Black Freshwater Basin’s habitat and water quality were both in good condition despite high nutrient concentrations recorded in the area. There was not enough information available to provide a grading for litter. Between 2013-17, 52 hectares of wetland vegetation and less than one hectare of riparian habitat were lost which meant the progress toward the management target of no net loss was graded as good. For full report, go to https://drytropicshealthywaters.org/
03.01.2022 HEALTH OF CLEVELAND BAY INSHORE: The 2019 Townsville Dry Tropics Report Card indicated high nutrient concentrations, with highly turbid waters in the enclosed coastal waters. Coral reef habitats ranged from poor to moderate condition, while litter decreased at all sites around Magnetic Island except Alma & Geoffrey Bays. The high levels of marcolagae and low recruitment of coral larvae were the reason the coral reefs were graded only in a poor to moderate condition.... The February 2019 flood is thought to be the reason why the seagrass biomass at coastal meadows are not returning to ‘typical’ peak season levels. 01.01.2022 HEALTH OF BLACK ESTUARY: The 2019 Townsville Dry Tropics Report Card indicated that the Black River Estuary water quality & habitat were both in good condition, while there was not enough information to provide an accurate grade for litter in the area. Despite high nutrient concentration levels in the Black River, Bluewater Creek, Crystal Creek Estuary & Rollingstone Creek Estuary, the overall water quality was in a good condition. Between 2013-2017, less than one hectare of ...mangrove & salt marsh habitat was lost which means the progress toward the management target of no net loss was graded as good.
