23.01.2022 ADHD can be very debilitating for some young people trying to learn in a mainstream classroom when they cannot concentrate to save themselves. They fall further and further behind and are labelled as having learning problems and/or "behavioural problems". Often they are very bright but just cannot learn under those conditions. Many end up being asked to leave their schools. They come to my school, which specialises in teaching ADHD boys, and they have low self-esteem, often their family relationships are strained and they often have few or no friends. Early diagnosis and treatment is crucial for these students.

19.01.2022 So true. Many people do not show how they are really feeling inside and keep up a brave front, which goes back to another popular mental health mantra, which is.... It's okay not to be okay.

17.01.2022 Due to Covid - 19, many families are currently in financial hardship. If your family is experiencing financial hardship there are emergency relief organisations that may be able to assist you. The assistance that each organisation provides varies however examples of ways they could grant relief are; food parcels or vouchers, paying or part paying a bill, and making referrals to other services. On the following website you can put in the details of the region where you live, ...and it will list the organisations that can provide emergency relief services to your family. https://www.dss.gov.au//communities-and-vulnerable-people/ Emergency Relief | Department of Social Services, Australian Government Improving the lifetime wellbeing of people and families in Australia. www.dss.gov.au For families who are in mandatory self-isolation with little or no food, and without a network of family and friends to support them, please contact the Victorian Government's dedicated Coronavirus hotline on 1800 675 398. 01.01.2022 In these uncertain times, some people may be feeling a bit anxious or frightened. Here are some tips to keep your mental health in check: Practise mindfulness, so you are not distracted and dwelling on thoughts that make you more anxious; that means being in the moment, and focused on whatever you are doing at the time. Keep busy. If you don't have work to do at home, start doing things around the house you never have time to do - clean out that cupboard, start your family ge...nogram and history search, do that jigsaw puzzle you have lying around, catch up on TV or Pay TV shows or movies, or experiment on some recipes you haven't had time to try yet. Keep in touch with people. If we can't see people face-to-face, apart from those we live with, keep in touch with friends and family via phone or social media.Ensure you make contact with those living alone - they are really feeling the loneliness and isolation at the moment. Keep a sense of humour! There are lots of funny memes and posts on face book and elsewhere. Have some fun! Here's an app that satisfies both the social and fun aspects we need - It's called House Party and is free!! You can video chat up to 10 people at a time and play games with them too!! Speaking of games, if you have children, why not bring out the good old-fashioned board games, or cards, and play together as a family. The kids will love it! Try to keep a routine going, with sleep, meals and exercise. This will help your physical health and also help your mental health. Not going to the gym doesn't mean it all stops; go for a walk outside and be creative in ways you can adapt some of your exercises Please do not forget, it is important to speak to your children about what is happening and explain things to them in age appropriate language. They can sense that their world has changed for now and might be anxious if they don't understand why and what is going on. I am available for counselling, both face-to-face and via Zoom or Skype if anyone needs me. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones! See more
