25.01.2022 Batch 3 of photos from Samos Surf Photography. Heaps more to come to keep us smiling :)

24.01.2022 Thank you to local Kirra artist Dave Sturmer for supporting the DSA by donating all funds raised from his recent "The Joy In Their Faces" exhibition to us. Yesterday saw the culmination of the exhibition with over 30 portraits sold by silent bid at Kirra SLSC Pop-Up Bar. Amazing support from the community of Kirra Koffee Swim & Surf and awesome work by Dave Sturmer. All funds raised will be put towards any new equipment we need when we get back up and running! Thanks again Dave!

23.01.2022 Tomorrow should have been the first day of our 2020-2021 season which we sadly have had to postpone until we can be sure we can run a totally safe and responsible event without compromising our safety guidelines or putting any of volunteers/participants/carers in danger. Hope this video helps still puts some "Smiles On Dials" - we can't wait to be back on the beach with you all soon. #smilesondials #disabledsurfers #goldcoast... https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=494795751045525

17.01.2022 Hi folks, after careful consideration and in light of the current government health warnings the Gold Coast DSA Committee has unanimously decided to put our 2020-2021 season on hold. We have considered all options that could effect how we run events and we can't in good conscience put our participants or volunteers at any degree of risk. The main factor in our final decision was the impracticality of even trying to maintain social distancing whilst still ensuring a safe event... (especially with participants in the water) and we hope everyone understands that this decision was not made lightly and saddens us all. We will continue to monitor information from the federal and state governments as well as our local council and if there is any change that enables us to run a safe event we will do our best to get back in the water. Stay safe :)

17.01.2022 We may have missed two of our events this season but WOW we went out with an awesome event today - such a good vibe and so many smiles on dials and awesome waves all 'round! Massive thanks to all our committee members, our core volunteers and team leaders, our "pink ladies" on the desk and on the beach, our BBQ crew, our photographer extraordinaire Scott Amos and all our other volunteers who turn up and dig deep to help put smiles on dials. Thanks too to all the families who ...trust us to take their loved ones surfing - seeing their smiles is such a massive reward for what we do. Season 2020-2021 dates will be announced after our AGM in April.

17.01.2022 Awesome to see the stoke for disabled surfing over in the UK! https://fb.watch/1P_63yM7DT/

15.01.2022 Thank you to City Of Gold Coast for their upgrade to the toilet block at Kropp Park to now include a disabled access changing room. Hope we can get to try it out soon! City of Gold Coast #disabledsurfers #disabledaccess

15.01.2022 Hey folks, hope you are all keeping safe and well during these interesting times! We have tentatively set our 2020-2021 event dates and hopefully we will get to run as normal. However we will be guided by the Queensland Government and their health and safety guidelines regarding Covid-19 so our events may be subject to cancellation or have to run slightly differently. We'll keep you informed of any changes or updates as we get closer to the dates.... Stay safe :)

09.01.2022 SHOUT OUT TO OUR DSA COMMUNITY TO SEE IF ANYONE CAN HELP SPREAD SOME STOKE! We have been contacted by the mother of a 9 year old boy with Autism (Aspergers) and ADHD (inattentive type). She is looking for someone who would be interested in working as a support worker and mentor for her son who is part of their local Nippers group in Currumbin and needs a support person to join in with him, keep him engaged with the group and learn how to read the surf, navigate waves, sweeps ...and rips and learn how to use his foam paddle board. She is looking for someone who also has a love of the ocean, knows water safety/surf safety and has the surfing/paddling skills they'd like to use to support her son in his Nippers activities each Sunday morning for a couple of hours during summer. There is potential for ongoing paddle board and pre-learn to surf hours after Nippers finishes. There's 2 weeks left of Nippers before the Christmas break, and Nippers starts again Jan 10th. Anyone interested must have (or be wiliing to obtain) an ABN, Working With Children Check - Blue Card, etc. For more info, in the first instance please message us direct and we can put you in touch.

06.01.2022 To all our volunteers, carers and participants, The current advice from the Commonwealth’s Chief Medical Officer is that there is 'no material risk' associated with attending a public gathering and, accordingly, weather/surf permitting our event will go ahead on Sunday. We want to make clear that we value the health and safety of all our our volunteers, carers and participants above all else and are strictly following the advice of Queensland Health, the State Government of Q...ueensland, the Australian Government and the World Health Organisation with respect to the safety of public gatherings. Instead, you MUST SELF-ISOLATE for 14 days. Please check here (https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-hea) for an up to date list of travel-restricted countries. Self-isolation means staying at home, not accepting visitors and avoiding situations where you come into contact with other people. Do not come if you have travelled to an area that has been affected by COVID-19 recently AND you have developed any of the following symptoms. Instead, you should self-isolate and seek medical care immediately; Fever Flu-like symptoms such as a cough, sore throat or headache Difficulty breathing If you DO NOT meet either of the first two criteria, there is no need to abstain from public gatherings or live events. We simply ask that you practise good hygiene when you attend - that’s things like washing your hands and covering your mouth (ideally with your arm or a handkerchief) if you sneeze or cough. If you DO meet either of the first two criteria, please call the Coronavirus Health Information Line simply call 1800 020 080, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
