24.01.2022 || 11 DAYS TO GO || The Divine Steps Festival aims to honor Guru Nanak, who personally took his teachings and learnings far and wide. Some interesting facts about his extensive travels: - Accompanied by Bhai Mardana, he traveled more than 28,000 kms in all four directions, and is believed to be the second most traveled person in history, after Ibn Battuta of Morocco.... - Some of the countries he visited during his travels include Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, the middle-east and Europe. At the celebration of 550 years of Guru Nanaks birth, it's time for us to give back and share his teachings with the wider Australian community. Be part of this movement and join 5,000 people on November 10th, supported by over 30 multi-faith organisations. __________________________________________ Website: https://divinesteps.com.au Walk: https://www.cantoo.org.au/event/divine-steps-festival-2019 Donate: https://divine-steps-festival.raisely.com Volunteer on the day: https://bit.ly/31eaxLB

22.01.2022 || 3 WEEKS TO GO || The Divine Steps Festival, proudly hosted by Sikh Youth Australia and supported by over 40 Sikh and multi-faith organisations, is a little less than a month away! Around 519 years ago, Guru Nanak embarked on an expedition, or udasi, followed by many more. His journeys covered the North, South, East and West. He embarked on explorations at a metaphysical level; pondering about the nature of things and understanding why we are the way we are. He traveled and... met many people, and touched all of their lives. He shared his message of love and peace, and his legacy carries on till date. Now, on Guru Nanaks 550th birthday, it is time for us to give back. Do your part and come on down! Volunteer, donate, but most importantly spread the word. Be a part of this movement and join 5000 people on the 10th! With over 30 multifaith communities playing a huge role in this event, we need our Sikh family to ramp up the efforts to make this happen. 10th November, 2019 Pyrmont Bay Park 9AM - 4PM ___________________________________ w: divinesteps.com.au f: Facebook.com/DSF2019 Donate: https://divine-steps-festival.raisely.com Volunteer on the day: https://bit.ly/31eaxLB #DSF2019 #sikh #dhangurunanak #550years #unity #harmony

09.01.2022 || Only 9 days to go || During the Divine Steps festival we will also be hosting a free turban tying stall. This gesture epitomises the Sikh principle of Universal Acceptance.... A turban is recognised as a status symbol worn by respected figures in society, such as Guru Nanak himself. Therefore by tying turbans in people irrespective of caste, creed, gender or religion it reinforces the idea that in the eyes of God we are all noble and equal. This notion embodies the message Guru Nanak strived to convey to the world, that there is only one god and all humans are equal. We encourage you to join us and celebrate equality on November 10! Heres a video on what to expect on the day. https://youtu.be/c7EZqeTH5c8

Reiterating the message of Guru Nanak and his guid...ing principles, several of our interfaith partners will be partaking in musical performances aimed at resonating his lasting universal message. Kindly joining us in the festival proceedings will be the Nimatullahi Sufi Order (House of Sufism, Sydney). Founded in the Middle East in the 14th century, this discipline is centred around the selfless service and love for all humans. Sufism aims to seek the truth through spiritual love and devotion. Like every religion, Sufism and its followers all encompass on a spiritual journey which this festival aims to embrace. Here are 4 facts about the Sikh's 1st Guru: * He is the world's second most travelled person in history by foot! * Different places and people gave him different names: Nanak Lama in Tibet, Nanak Kadamdar in Russia, Baba Foosa in China. * Guru Nanak travelled to promote equality between all classes, religions and genders through his message of one universal God. * He wrote hymns and poems with his Muslim companion Bhai Mardana.
