23.01.2022 Secondary traumatic stress is the emotional duress that results when an individual hears about the firsthand trauma experiences of another. Each year more than 10 million children, spouse, friends, family endure the trauma of abuse, violence, natural disasters, and other events.
23.01.2022 There are great things about raising a child with additional needs. But it can bring new challenges to your relationship. Talking openly and valuing your time as a couple can help keep your relationship strong. Its important to work as a team and share the overall workload.

20.01.2022 To be a volunteer, it takes... Generosity, a willingness to give your time to others. Understanding, because their lives might be very different from your own.... Empathy, an ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes and feel what they must feel. Compassion, to truly care about making someone else's life better. Patience, because the process doesn't always go as smoothly as it might. Dedication, to stick with the project and see it through. You've shown these qualities and so much more, so thank you for all that you do. Thankyou to all the National Committee,Local coordinators and our Ambassador for all that you do!! Your work never goes unnoticed. Kim Collins General Manager

17.01.2022 DSNSG is excited to welcome a new Support Partner - Australian Military Bank, who will be supporting DSNSGs Program Drive Safe Program, and also contributing towards local events when these are back up and running again. The Drive Safe Program is designed to assist members of DSNSG families aged 16 years and above with ASD, ADHD, and Aspergers to gain confidence and self-esteem when learning to drive. This program was developed to address the need for specialised training ...within this group to obtain their driving licence and open the door to greater independence. We are delighted to be partnering with DSNSG for the Drive Safe Program says Australian Military Banks CEO Darlene Mattiske-Wood, this fantastic initiative is a great way for us to further support the Australian Defence community and offers a very meaningful hand for families and young people with specific needs to achieve an important milestone in these young peoples lives. This program has the power to materially change the quality of their lives and the lives of those who care for them. "We really commend the achievement of DSNSG in the creation of this program and their pivotal role supporting the Defence community of Australia and it is a great honour to be able to participate says Ms Mattiske- Wood. The sponsorship announcement from Australian Military Bank comes two weeks after the announcement that in conjunction with their Military Rewards Account holders they have achieved a $200,000 giving milestone to defence community partners as a result of their regular co-contribution scheme. Over the years the Bank has sought to connect in the most meaningful way possible to support defence communities with targeted sponsorship contributions and Drive Safe 2020 is a very worthy cause says Ms Mattiske Wood. 09.01.2022 #AutisticMeltdowns happen when an environment becomes too overwhelming. With children, it will seem like they're having a "tantrum" but they're not. Children may not be able to communicate with you on what is happening to them. When this happens, take them away from the situation they're in, ASAP. Give them space and time. Don't ask lot's of questions as this is adding to their stress and they are currently in fight or flight and won't be able to deal with demands placed upon... them. Their sensory structure has been compromised and they are trying to gain control back. This goes for Autistic adults aswel. #AutisticShutdowns are when we have suppressed our natural Autistic reactions. You may find that your Autistic child will shutdown after school, because they have suppressed it all day at school. This goes for Autistic adults aswel, if they have held it in all day and have been forced into uncomfortable situations all day. We realise and learn early on, that to survive in these forced situations, we have to mask our Authentic Autistic self in some situations. This will play out as a shutdown later on. #AutisticBurnout is when an Autistic person has suppressed all their natural Autistic behaviours over a long period of time. The brain shutsdown and it is like a very deep Shutdown. These can last from hours, days to years, depending on how much stress the individual has been under.

05.01.2022 Remembering those that fought for our country, for those that lost their lives, for those that were injured, for those that have witnessed loosing their brother in arms, for those that have come home and been forgotten. But thanking those that are now still fighting this war, thank you for what you are doing for our country, thank you for the time you have given away from your familys and loved ones. We are thinking of you all. We all can not thank you enough for what you do for us back home, the pain you feel being away from your families. But know this, we shall never forget, we will never stop helping those left behind. Lest we forget.

04.01.2022 To all the moms, Being a mum of a child with Special Needs is tough, that doesnt make us love our children any less, if anything it makes us love our children fiercely. We can have days where its continuous meltdowns, challenging behaviours and minimal sleep. We can have days where we cuddle. We have fun and laughter. Being a mum of a child with Special Needs is accepting both times. If anything, the tough times make us love our children that little bit more, because it is... then when you see them at their most vulnerable, that they need you and you need them. Happy Mothers Day to all the mums out there on the roller coaster life that is parenting Special Needs children. From The National Executive Committee, General Manager, Ambassador and Local Coordinators.
