Due to an accident a few years ago, Leo cannot bear weight on one of his legs so the hair on his foot doesn’t get worn away by walking. Check out the difference it makes! And this is only 10 weeks growth. It’s important to keep pad hair short, especially during spring/summer, to reduce the chance of bindis or grass seeds getting caught in there and causing problems. We are still figuring out the details, including whether or not the 5km rule applies for grooming. ... If you have missed an appointment or already contacted me during lockdown I have your name on my list. You do not need to contact me again, I will contact you when its your turn to rebook. 20.01.2022 Why its important to keep up maintenance on your double-coated dog during winter. Double coats that are not professionally groomed regularly will end up with compacted coat and matting sitting right next to the skin. This interrupts air flow to the skin and keeps your dog from being able to keep themselves warm during winter. Not only that, matted/compacted coat takes aaaaaaaaages to dry completely, holding moisture next to the skin which is the perfect breeding ground for... bacterial infections like hot spots. Double coats should groomed at a minimum 4 times a year (once a season), if not more. 19.01.2022 Hi everyone, in his press conference this morning Dan Andrews announced that salon based pet groomers will be able to return to work from the 28th September. This is a massive win for pet welfare and a pat on the back for all of us/you that spoke up. He, however, also explicitly stated that mobile grooming was not going ahead until the end of October. I am currently looking into and enquiring about the specifics around this and exploring other options. Once I have some more detailed information and a plan of action I will be in contact again. 15.01.2022 Today we're looking at how to cut knots out of your dogs coat. The short answer: DON'T DO IT! Especially if it is close to the skin. So often dogs get accidentally injured by well meaning owners trying to do the right thing without the proper technique or tools. If your dog is knotted, use your brush and comb to slowly and gently untangle the knot. Break it up into small sessions over the course of the day or a few days if need be. If after a a few sessions you're not making any headway or it's causing your dog pain then unfortunately it likely means it's beyond saving and will need to looked at by a professional.

Where she uses the de-shedding tool, you can just use the corner of your comb to work on more stubborn knots. Matting starts at the base near the skin so this is the best way to prevent mats from forming. And remember, brushing your dog is like brushing your teeth; you gotta brush what you wanna keep.

If your pets coat is matting and you...re concerned about their wellbeing, talk to your vet. Veterinary groomers are still able to operate in certain cases. 08.01.2022 Hey Everyone, So following up on the announcement on Sunday it seems grooming is currently unable to resume until the 26th October. Three months without professional grooming services is a welfare issue for many dogs. Many single-coated breeds such as poodles, most poodle crosses, lagottos, cocker spaniels, etc. need to maintained at least every 6-10 weeks to prevent matting, eye irritations, nails from over-growing, sanitary areas from getting filthy and infected.... Not only that, the warmer the weather is going to get, the bushier and longer these dogs coats will be, which leads to concerns of getting overheated. Double coats on the other hand, especially longer coats, although they may not need as much clipping, do need to be professionally brushed and blown out regularly to keep the coat from matting or getting impacted. A matted or impacted coat does not allow airflow which, again with the weather warming up, could lead to overheating. There is a concession for vets being allowed to groom a dog if it's a welfare issue, however many vets are now being inundated and have up to a 4 week wait for appointments, not to mention the increase in home-grooming injuries they are having to treat. Both short hair breeds (Labradors, Corgis, Huskies, German Shepherds, Beagles, etc.) and long hair breeds (Border Collies, Shelties, Rough Collies, Chow Chow, Samoyds, etc.). For the long hair breeds go back and watch the video I posted about line brushing single coats. You will need to use the same tehniques to ensure there are no knots or tangles before you can start de-shedding a long coat.

01.01.2022 Today were talking manicures. The key to trimming nails is patience and trust. Take it slow and dont push the dog to get it done all at once. Play with you dogs paws without trimming their nails often with lots of praise so they get used to having their feet touched. Remember not to take them back too far, trimming a little regularly is better than trimming a lot rarely. If you do accidentally make the nail bleed, a little cornflour will help staunch the bleeding. ...
