15.01.2022 Vale CIV Ross Tomlins It is with deep sadness that I write to you today to tell you that one of our former staff members, CIV Ross Tomlins, passed away sud...denly over the weekend. CIV Tomlins first met the 3 Wing Band when we went to Dubbo in 2017 for the 313SQN Freedom of Entry Parade. On the morning of the parade it was discovered that some required equipment for our band had been missed and left back at RAAF Base Richmond. After a number of phone calls, CIV Tomlins came to the rescue with some loan equipment from the Dubbo and District Concert Band. As a way of showing our appreciation, CIV Tomlins was invited to join the 3 Wing Band for the rest of their Dubbo tour. Not long after the parade, CIV Tomlins joined 313 SQN as a staff member, and also had a secondary posting to 344FLT. During his time with 344 FLT, CIV Tomlins attended a number of Musicians Courses, including our 2018 Multi Wing Musicians Course. CIV Tomlins even came up with the name for the end of course concert, Banded By The Forces. Outside of the AAFC, CIV Tomlins was a very dedicated member of the Dubbo and District Concert Band. CIV Tomlins also had a defence force background, and was also a member of the Dubbo RSL. We extend our deepest sympathies and thoughts to Ross's family during this time. Three battalions and 5500 personnel were committed by Australia in over 10 years of Australian deployment. Four Australian soldiers were to lose their lives in Timor-Leste, none of them due to enemy actions.
