16.01.2022 DHUB unite with community organisations and families for the Wellington Community Fun Day!! At Bamara, we are all about community spirit and working in collaboration, so our team at DHUB took the initiative into their own hands to host the Wellington Community Fun Day January 13th, an unforgettable day for everyone who joined us on the day. With the local community experiencing some challenging and unfortunate times in recent weeks, we put the call out to various organisati...ons across Dubbo and Wellington with the idea of holding a day of reflection, togetherness and positive vibes for friends and families across the community. Lending a helping on the day, and attended the event included representatives from: Aboriginal Affairs Lifeline Headspace Dubbo NSW Police Dubbo Regional Council- Communities for Children, Creative Community Concepts Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) Mission Australia Apollo House Project Walwaay The day saw various activities for people of all ages, including Foam Ten Pin Bowling, Rugby League Skills and Drills, Jumping Castles, Touch Football, League Tag with the biggest hit being the Snow Cones! The team at Project Walwaay, a proactive policing program that provides outlets for designated officers to work with at-risk youth in the community also took care of BBQ duties on the day. DHUB Coordinator, Brooke Mallison reflected on this proud community event for the people of Wellington. The general atmosphere was excellent, with over 150 people across the community attending. The show of support and resilience from everyone involved was overwhelming, to say the least, and we would like to say a big thanks to everyone who attended and lent a helping hand on the day.

08.01.2022 Dubbo South Primary NAIDOC 2020 Stage 3 DHUB students celebrated NAIDOC Week by hosting an assembly for all of Stage 3. During the assembly, student’s demonstrated knowledge and skills that they had learnt throughout the past 2 terms of DHUB Sessions. As part of the assembly, a Wiradjuri song was performed, a Traditional Indigenous Games (TIG) PowerPoint and video was shown and the students and DHUB staff presented an artwork of Ollie the Owl to the school as our totem animal.... Partnering with DHUB has been an amazing experience for all students involved. Having the opportunity for all Indigenous students in Stage 3 (76 students in total) to elect what aspect of Aboriginal culture to learn about, has proven a positive experience and has enabled students to fully engage themselves in the learning process. This has also provided staff with an authentic and quality way to include cultural goals in students’ Personalised Learning Pathways (PLP’s). DSPS is looking forward to continuing our partnership with DHUB moving into next year to provide our students with even more authentic and relatable cultural experiences and learning opportunities. Photo and story contributed by Sally Constable, Stage 3 classroom teacher and Sista speak co-ordinator.
07.01.2022 As the official RUOK? Day comes to an end just remember that everyday you should always ask someone RUOK? Taking one minute of your time in your day can change the day, week, month, year of someone else- it’s not just one day a year that’s it ok to ask, it’s not just one day a year that’s it’s ok to speak up- it’s EVERYDAY! #RUOK? #itaintweaktospeak
07.01.2022 Orana Heights NAIDOC 2020 DHUB was fortunate enough to celebrate NAIDOC Day at Orana Heights Public School with students from Years 5 and 6. The students and staff participated in a range of activities including a few different Traditional Indigenous Games both leaning about the games origin and playing the game, an art session where the students were able to use a hands on approach with this activity and produced some amazing artworks using their knowledge of Aboriginal symb...ols, and patterns to tell their own stories on a few different resources e.g. scratch boomerangs and animals, canvas’s and wooden boomerangs. Another group was able to learn the art of weaving, being able to use different colours and techniques to make friendship bracelets, anklets, and headbands. It was a fun day for all involved. DHUB is so excited to continue working with the students and staff from Orana Heights in the next few weeks and continuing in 2021. See more
