25.01.2022 Whats on.... Rotary Youth Exchange Program Information Night @ Club Dubbo Thursday 12th March... Rotary Club of Dubbo West Inc #WhatsoninDubbo

24.01.2022 Katie Jayne was our guest at our meeting on Zoom last night. She delighted us with her story and her music. She is a Dubbo girl who worked in London for some years before returning to Australia to make her career in country music here. Since the restrictions on live music due to Covid19 she has concentrated on publishing her songs online.... Apart from her #1 fan Bert, she has gathered a few more fans amongst our members. We wish her well.

24.01.2022 Mans best friend can often have four legs and lots of fur and for many of those in our local community we understand that your dog has helped and is helping you through many of lifes events. A request has come in via a local committee we are a part of and we would like to give you the opportunity to possibly share your remarkable dogs story on the big screen. Please contact Stefan who is putting together a documentary on stories about dogs and farmers and their importance to... each other. As the poster says - Stefan is looking for contacts who might like to share their stories - so maybe you know someone who has that special connection with their dogs and if you do feel free to share this post with your personal network as well. And thankyou to Louise at Centacare for sharing this with us

23.01.2022 Induction of a new Rotarian by Zoom! Rather than wait until we can all meet again in person, we used Zoom (the medium were becoming so used to) to formally (!) induct our newest member: Brooke Mallison ... Dubbo West Rotarians have worked with Brooke for some time in her role with the Girls Academy. We are delighted to have her join us in Rotary. We know she will continue to be a valuable contributor to the community.

23.01.2022 During the Christmas break, member Lois Head delivered donations of coffee from our members for the CWA Food Pantry in Baradine. Coffee is a popular commodity in the food pantry and runs out quickly. This follows our weekend club visit to Baradine in November to support locals suffering in drought. Photo shows Lois presenting the donations to Nea Worrell of Baradine CWA.

22.01.2022 Since isolation practices have been in force, we have not been able to conduct our usual club meetings. Tonight we conducted our first virtual meeting using zoom. Members familiar with online communication and those less confident were able to join in the discussion, under the strict control of Bert (who had the mute button) and President Chris. Dubbo West Rotary Club plans to continue to work together in the Dubbo community by whatever means we can.... Keep safe, everyone!

22.01.2022 While covid-19 safety precautions remain in place, we have been learning how to conduct meetings by Zoom, incorporating as much of our usual meetings as we can. We continue our weekly toasts to International Rotary clubs. This weeks was Brooklyn Bridge Rotary Club, in the heart of the New York community suffering particularly in the pandemic. The Brooklyn Bridge Rotary Club has cancelled all in-person meetings and events, in light of current public health safety concerns and... is conducting meetings by Zoom. They are currently supporting the overwhelmed front-line staff of an under-funded hospital nearby by providing daily meals to the doctors, nurses, technicians and other emergency room staff. On Wednesday we drank a toast to them, and wish them a speedy recovery from the current crisis. You can visit them at http://www.brooklynbridgerotaryclub.org/ or https://www.facebook.com/BrooklynBridgeRotaryClub/?notif_t=page_admin¬if_id=1470147223905831

21.01.2022 Our fabulous Christmas raffle prize has been delivered to the wnners, the Spittles family of Dubbo. Congratulations to the winners, who were keen to use some of their prize as soon as possible. The $1000 travel voucher is on its way out of town to Bob Lane, who won the book buyers prize. Thank you to all the loyal supporters of our annual raffle, a major fundraiser to support local causes. Ticket buyers were from far and wide, and we are very grateful to them all.

21.01.2022 Mark Benton, local pilot, joined us at our Zoom meeting this week. Mark learned to fly at the Dubbo Flying School and joined QANTAS as a cadet after finishing high school in Dubbo. He gave us an insightful presentation about his 18-year career as a QANTAS pilot. After QANTAS pilot training Mark worked as 2nd Officer on Boeing 767 aircraft before moving on to Boeing 747s then transitioning to 1st Officer on the Airbus A330. After being stood down by QANTAS due to COVID, Mark... deftly moved to alternative flying operations with Air Bush Charter and Airlink flights in country NSW (as well working for Woolworths online home deliveries). Mark gave a further glimpse of his passion for flying, by showing us pictures of the Warrior Warbird Nanchang aircraft he operates from the Dubbo Regional Airport and describing the pleasure he takes in providing joyflight experiences to the public in this aircraft. So look up to the skies and wave!

21.01.2022 Last night we welcomed our newest member to Dubbo West Rotary. Max Stonestreet has a background in community service, and we look forward to working with him in Rotary. Welcome, Max!

19.01.2022 Selma Sontum, our previous exchange student, from Norway, sent this photo of her graduation from school, wearing national dress. She will be going to Rome in September to further her studies. Selma joined us recently in a meeting via Zoom.

18.01.2022 At our meeting last week, we were joined on Zoom by Josh Bowen and two of the doctors from the Ume Manekan Clinic. This clinic has been one of our clubs international recipients of funding since 2018 after Josh Bowen, who is one of the strategic business leaders involved with the clinic, was introduced to us by Peter Anderson. The clinic is in Soe, West Timor, where they help the local area and surrounding communities with a general clinic, a dental clinic, pharmacy, birthin...g room, laboratory, kitchen and malnutrition treatment centre - which involves a lot of education to mothers and has a very large need. Recently we provided a donation of $2000 to Josh and the team to help them with necessary upgrades to the clinic in order for it to re-register and also register as a category D hospital. This will mean they can help more people in their community and be able to attract additional funds for service from the government. The clinic has plans for further upgrades to equipment and facilities and also will need to bring on more staff for this. We plan to continue our work with Josh and the Ume Manekan Clinic and hope to help them via a Rotary International grant to help provide mobile services to remote villages and areas where extra support is needed. There is a report available which outlines some of the current activity and as Josh sends through updates we will share them with you.

18.01.2022 Rotary clubs working together to help in the community. Thanks to Dubbo West Rotary partners Faye and Dianne for their talented and generous sewing efforts.

17.01.2022 Rotary in action in the community. While Covid precautions are in force, our community support activities are limited. However Dubbo West and other Rotary clubs still provide meals once a week to people staying at Macquarie Homestay. Pam and Neil Sharkey (and grandson), Deb and Jim McCreadie delivered meals to Rod Crowfoot tonight for residents to enjoy. ... For people staying at Macquarie Homestay, having a meal provided by someone else means one less thing to worry about during their treatment at Dubbo Base Hospital.

17.01.2022 Drawing the winner of the $1,000 travel voucher tonight at Club Dubbo. People who bought 5 tickets have a bonus ticket in this draw.

16.01.2022 National Youth Science Forum is a project run in conjunction with Rotary clubs to give students interested in science experiences to help them decide directions they might like to follow. Rotary Club of Dubbo West sponsors students to attend NYSF each year. Phoenix Aubusson-Foley visited our meeting this week. He is one of the students we will sponsor for the 2021 event, and came to introduce himself to members. He has a connection to Dubbo West through his grandparents, and we are pleased to be able to sponsor him.

16.01.2022 Although our meetings are still held via Zoom, we continue our practice of making a toast each week to an overseas Rotary Club. Last night the toast was to the Rotary Club of Kranj, in Slovenia. Kranj is a city with a similar population to Dubbo. The club is 80 years old and is very focused on a foundation that helps children with disabilities. Their Facebook page is in Slovenian but the pics look happy!... We wish the Rotary Club of Kranj all the best in their work to change the world. http://www.rotary-klub-kranj.si/

16.01.2022 Our second Zoom meeting had an international flavour. We were joined by our most recent Rotary exchange student Selma Sontum, from Norway. During the Covid-19 restrictions she has been attending classes online, and joined us during her school day. It was good to catch up with her again.

14.01.2022 Our meetings on Zoom allow us to hear from people near and far while meeting virtually. Ruth Shanks was our guest speaker this week. Ruth has been a member of CWA for 50 years, and has recently concluded her term as world president of Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW). She told us about the work of CWA and of ACWW and its advocacy with the UN. Congratulations to a Dubbo woman who has had influence on the world stage. We were also joined by District 9670 Governor David Roach and his wife Amanda. Amanda was particularly interested to hear from Ruth Shanks about CWA viewpoint on womens mental health issues. David described some of the changes Rotary clubs are adapting to during the pandemic.

14.01.2022 Dubbo Photo News reported our recent induction of Brooke Mallison during a meeting conducted by Zoom. Brooke has since joined in our Zoom meetings. Many of our members have learned new computer skills during isolation because of covid-19.

13.01.2022 Each week during our club meetings we charge a toast to an international club, this week we chose the Rotary club of Albuquerque in the United States. We wish them well and enjoy seeing the ways in which they are serving their local communities. August is indeed the month to check out Rotary for yourself, and as one of the best clubs in Dubbo , we would love to share our zoom meeting with anyone who would like to learn more and see some of what we get up to.... If you are interested in attending as a guest please reach out AND if you would like to share with all our members what your organisation, group or school or club is up to we are always keen to have guest speakers and find ways to support you. You can message the page, comment below or give us a call

05.01.2022 Vale Balfour Dohnt We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bal Dohnt, foundation member of Rotary Club of Dubbo West, on Sunday, July 19, 2020. Bal Dohnt was a well respected resident of Dubbo for many years, having been raised on the family farm at Eumungerie. 05.01.2022 Our 2019/20 exchange student, Mickey Lee, flew out of Dubbo today on his way home to Taiwan. We bid him farewell at our meeting via Zoom this week, and gave him a parting gift to remember Australia by. Mickey has spent a most unusual exchange year with us because of the global virus, but he returns to a country which has managed the pandemic even better than Australia has. We wish him well and look forward to keeping in touch with him in the future.

03.01.2022 Recent member Camilla Griffiths gave us some insights into her life and varied working career at our meeting last night. Her story was well received by members who now know more of her talents.

02.01.2022 Vale Kenneth McAnally We were saddened to hear of the passing of Ken McAnally, foundation member of Rotary Club of Dubbo West, on Sunday July 19, 2020. Kenneth George McAnally was born in Dubbo 80 years ago.... Except for temporary stays in Brisbane in later life he lived and maintained a home in Dubbo his whole life. Ken gained the Intermediate Certificate at Dubbo High School then worked at the Accountancy firm , G.J.Christie and Co. for his whole life, being a partner in the business for a large part of that time. During his working life he saw to the tax needs of many and varied clients, gaining the respect of clients and peers alike. He was married to Robin, a bank clerk, who pre deceased him. They had one son, Scott, who is married with two children and lives in Brisbane. Also surviving him is his Mother, a sister and a half brother. Ken was a charter member of Dubbo West Rotary and the protg and business partner of Ron Rich, another charter member. In Rotary he served as President, Treasurer and several Board positions. He was an accomplished tennis player and he and Robin enjoyed some travel with friends prior to Robins death. As a junior player in Dubbo he sometimes shared the court with Bob Hewitt who went on to play internationally with South Africa. He also enjoyed cards, movies and the theatre. He was in many ways a solitary person, a non-drinker and smoker but he readily confessed to the vice of expensive and rare cars, many of which were traded-in before the nodules wore off the tyres. During Kens recent confinement he chose to be alone with his family and one close friend. This saddened his many friends and acquaintances who were unable to offer some comfort and bid him farewell. He was farewelled at a private funeral. He will be missed as a community identity and Rotarian.

01.01.2022 It was with great sadness that Dubbo West Rotary members learned that Paul Mines had passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning, 2 April, 2020. Paul was cheeky, funny, tenacious, and cheerful. But above all, he was truly inspirational. Despite being burdened with a disproportionate share of serious health issues over very many years, he rarely mentioned them, and never complained. We are all the better for having known the man. He will be remembered with great affection.
