15.01.2022 A story of a family who lost two daughters within six months to a rare genetic disease, and the critical role of palliative care in enabling them to spend precious time with their girls. Unfathomable. http://www.cbc.ca//winnipeg-family-says-palliative-care-ga

13.01.2022 "Thank You For Playing" is a film that documents Ryan Green's unique approach to dealing with his young son's terminal diagnosis. Ryan created a video game, "That Dragon, Cancer", an incredibly personal account of his son's struggle. What an incredible tribute, and an amazing form of art therapy for a grieving father. http://motherboard.vice.com/read/thank-you-for-playing

13.01.2022 We had to share this perfectly irreverent poem that was shared with us at a recent service. We hope it brings you a smile like it did to us

13.01.2022 We’d like to congratulate 21 year old Ella Ingram for having the courage to stand up against a big insurance company. Last week, the Victorian Civil and Adminis...trative Tribunal (VCAT) found that insurance giant QBE discriminated against Ella twice. Firstly, when it issued her with travel insurance that excluded any coverage for mental health conditions and secondly, when QBE refused her claim after she couldn’t travel with her classmates to New York because she developed depression. In our experience, insurance companies make no distinction between different mental health conditions and often refuse to insure anyone with a history of mental illness even when they’re fully recovered. These blanket exclusions on travel, income protection and life insurance policies increase stigma and stop people from seeking support. We challenge the insurance industry to look at their policies and practices and work with us and Mental Health Australia to design a fair and reasonable policy that treats people as individuals. We ask people who think they may have been discriminated against because of a mental health condition to come forward and tell their stories. You can do so here: bb.org.au/1OFs9T8

11.01.2022 The handshake is a common symbol found on graves from the 19th century. Typically, it denotes a parting from earthly relationships, underscored by the inclusion... of a word like "farewell," as seen here. In this example, the grave is for a woman, Malinda, and we see that the hand and sleeve on the left are feminine, while those on the right are masculine; most likely this represents a parting of husband and wife. One tradition says that the hand in front belongs to the first person to pass away, which is true in this case. Both index fingers are extended, but even sources on cemetery symbolism seem unsure of the significance. I love the fine detail here, from the button and cuffs to the fingernails.
