25.01.2022 To say I’m excited about the fabrics for the next batch of face masks is quite the understatement. Also not pictured, because boring, some plains and more manly prints. Will update ASAP about likely timing for arrival in the shop.

23.01.2022 New batch of masks just arrived at Dirty Janes!

23.01.2022 Who wore it best? Welcoming Circe to the family. She’s the notcrazylady.

21.01.2022 I am CRAZY about this fabric. It makes me smile so hard. It hurt to cut it up. But I’ve got more on order and am thinking... cushions? A skirt? For now, I’m continuing the quest for the right size and shape for a bag. This one is pretty good. It’s got more capacity than you’d expect, for when you need it, but isn’t one of those bags that fills up with sh*t and you can’t find anything in. Did I mention it’s reversible too? Want a bag or purse of a particular size or pattern? Let me know. I’m always up for an adventure.

20.01.2022 This is something I’d love to be able to do.

20.01.2022 Gaaaah. I know, I know, I’ve been quiet and the shop needs some love and attention. It’s coming!! Assuming I can get out of bed tomorrow BIG THINGS are afoot. Speaking of foots (?!?) NEW SHOES are arriving. Golly, I love shoes. And clothes. And bags. And ALL THE BEAUTIFUL THINGS

19.01.2022 I made some stuff. Also shopping up a storm. Wait until you see the shoes

18.01.2022 I’m going to assume there’s a smile lurking under this Wonder Woman Lots of love to my Victorian family and friends. More masks are on their way. You too can be this cool

18.01.2022 So quiet at my house today. A perfect day for a little handsewing and old episodes of project runway. And a whole of Etsy and eBaying

18.01.2022 Shoppers of Canberra, I need your help! I’m going to be making some orders of new beauties in the next couple of weeks - what do you most want? Second hand or new? Dresses or seperates? Play/party or work? Shoes? Jumpsuits? Hats? Tiaras? Tell me your fashion dreams

17.01.2022 Lots of new stock in store today, just in time for Christmas shopping! Lots of tops. Bags. Christmas decorations. Shoes. Liberty print hankies. And then some random new makes - pin cushions and little fabric baskets/pots, which are fabulously versatile storage options for all manner of things.

14.01.2022 Sooooo... I’ve been making things that aren’t masks this week Experimenting with leather a little and then a lovely day in the shop today playing, including the last bags I made - super versatile and fun, made with both handle and strap options. I kept one for myself and it’s really handy.

12.01.2022 Anyone remember months ago when I was all - I’m going to make turbans! And then I didn’t. Oops. Damn foot surgery and overlockers with foot pedal operation. Well, guess what I’ve been doing? This is the first batch and they will be in the shop by the end of the week. They’re full coverage ones but I’m also playing with a few patterns for headbands in a similar style so, fingers crossed, they’ll be done soon too. And if you’re not keen on any of the colours/fabrics so far, I... might have accidentally gone fabric shopping again today. Did someone say purple velvet? Give me a shout if there’s anything you’d like to see in future iterations. Oh, and, yes, I might have been finding you all some amaaaazing clothes too

11.01.2022 Official mood: cheese. Also: mounting pile of new fabric but no clear plans on what to do with it. Coming soon: shoes.

11.01.2022 It looks like chaos but truly this week I am a well oiled machine of mask making. A couple of special orders almost done and then on to more stock for the shop. Some old faves and lots of new fabulouses. See something you like? Let me know and they’ll go to the top of the pile.

11.01.2022 So I went to the shop today and took along lots of new goodies. Including some new stock of those aaaaaaaamazing wide-legged pants with the suspenders, and bags, and purses, and things with peacocks on them. But then I forgot to take any photos of anything actually in the shop. Just the totally delicious pumpkin and cheddar scones from Billy T's Canberra. Trust me, they are really really really good

11.01.2022 masksmasksmasksmasksmasksmasksmasksmasks so many masks so many fun colours and patterns... arriving @ Dirty Janes Canberra this afternoon (next week I’m making something that is not a mask)

11.01.2022 The current hope/plan is to be in the shop tomorrow with some new stock and maybe a little rearranging if anyone is up for a coffee and/or chat Come by and tell me your fashion dreams so I can work on making them a reality. Or, you know, just eat the delicious morning buns with me Also, if you happen to have beautiful things in your cupboard going to waste, I’d love to talk anout what I can do to help you find them new homes.

09.01.2022 New things! Turbans! Headbands! Fabric pots! More bags on their way! Like what I do, but it’s not quite what you’re after? I can make to order. Honestly, I’d be pretty chuffed to do that

09.01.2022 An update for those hunting masks: I’m sewing as fast as I can I’ve got between 80-100 in train for this week but am at the mercy of australia post and a delivery of nice soft elastic so can’t yet pinpoint when I’ll be restocking yet. If things go according to plan I should have a batch in the shop tomorrow with lots more landing on Friday.

07.01.2022 So one of the brands I’m excited to introduce today is Pretty Retro. It’s from the UK and the sister brand to the amazing House of Foxy, one of my all time faves. This is reproduction vintage at its best, stylish and timeless. I always feel a bit shy of calling the Duck a vintage shop because I feel that’s a bit... limited? You don’t have to dress vintage to enjoy classic designs. What I’ve always loved, and what’s driven this whole adventure, is a love of quality, femin...ine, flattering and timeless silhouettes. I wanted to grow up to be Katherine Hepburn but it didn’t pan out. What this brand does well, and why I sought it out for you, is great trousers (red trousers! sailor pants!) and stripy tops. A skirt that shows off the waist but skims the hips. Easy clothes. Comfortable clothes. Beautiful clothes. It’s the Ducky mission. I hope you enjoy. See more

06.01.2022 Masks have landed! Now available Dirty Janes Canberra with another restock on Saturday, if you miss out.

05.01.2022 A little restock this morning, with some special helpers assisting. A pile of the lovely little pin cushions I’ve been making with Morris and Liberty fabric scraps and some more fabric pots. These are super handy, which is why I included some Christmas ones this time - a great alternative to wrapping paper, and reversible.

05.01.2022 A study in contrasts: I started the week making hankies (!) with beautiful and incredibly delicate Liberty tana lawn and ended with the robustness of cotton canvas bags, leaning a little in a mid century direction. All available at Ducky Shincracker Dirty Janes Canberra this weekend

05.01.2022 SO MUCH new stuff in the shop today. A big overhaul for spring. New brands, some quality second hand finds and SHOES. Anyone who knows me knows how I feel about shoes. Also, turban style headbands have been made and have arrived.

05.01.2022 What’s in the box? Beautiful things! Of course. Super new exciting things landing tomorrow. If you love colour and quality and frocks then you’re going to want to see these. I am a tad excited

03.01.2022 A feel good story start to the morning. A fabulous tale of the magical things that can happen, and often do, on one of my favourite FB pages. https://www.washingtonpost.com//woman-with-tattoo-peculi/

03.01.2022 I am pleased to report that spring has definitely arrived @ Dirty Janes Canberra. The place was buzzing today! So lovely to stop by, throw some new beauties on the racks and chat to some lovely people Lots of colour in store. And at the always delightful Jonima Flowers which I do find so very hard to resist

02.01.2022 Ducky Shincracker - now with handmade reusable face masks! Just a little tidy and top up today, with big changes coming later in the week. Stay tuned for an avalanche of new and beautiful things.

02.01.2022 A whole lot of zhuzhing underway today. Lots of new treasures now in store. (let’s all just ignore the plastic tubs and instead admire the new, handmade rug instead please )

02.01.2022 Busy day in the workroom today. Been MIA for a while, thanks to everybody having at least one cold in the space of 2 weeks, but I’m coming back! Lots of boxes and parcels being unpacked and new ideas percolating. I love my job.

01.01.2022 The box has been unpacked... so incredibly excited to announce I am now a proud stockist of Elise Design Australia!!! I have long LOVED their dresses - quality fabrics, fabulous patterns and stunning vintage inspired designs. Come and check them out, I promise you’ll love them Open 7 days a week Dirty Janes Canberra

01.01.2022 POCKETS IN WOMEN’S FASHION. A replacement for the bag, historically, the term "pocket" referred to a pouch worn around the waist by women in the 17th to 19th ce...nturies. Pockets eventually slipped out of fashion as skirts became more slimline and the bulky pocket could no longer be hidden beneath hoops and petticoats. Their reemergence grew with the changing attitude towards women’s clothing- that as well as pleasing aesthetics, women wanted clothing options that could serve them functionally. Leaving you with this tongue in cheek quote from ‘The Graphic’ in 1894: "The pockets of the ‘New Woman,’ admirably useful as they are, seem likely to prove her new fetish, to stand her instead of blushes and shyness and embarrassment, for who can be any of these things while she stands with her hands in her pockets?"
