23.01.2022 Do you need 2 different wings for Paragliding and Paramotoring? We find that gliders are generally sold to students with the intention to get the student through the initial part of training safely and without the consideration of long term ownership of the first wing. This is generally because there has never been a glider that would fit the bill of allowing a student to complete training safely on an entry level wing and then see the student through to intermediate/advanced... level in both paragliding and Paramotoring disciplines. Traditionally if you wanted to free fly and paramotor you had make do with glider that was ok for free flying but when you went to Paramotoring it wasn’t enjoyable as didn’t have a reflex profile so it wasn’t stable in rough air especially with the trimmers out and it was slow with trimmers in or out. Without going into depth on Reflex profiles, gliders are much more resistant to deflations in reflex mode, so we fly faster IE trimmers out, to fly through rough air. Paragliders with the trimmers out are more susceptible to collapse’s, become uncertified and more dangerous. Introducing the Dudek Universal. Dudek have reacted to a need in the Paragliding / Paramotoring market releasing the Universal which is the first TRUE dual purpose glider with 100% full reflex capabilities. The Universal is the first free flying certified (EN B) paraglider which can be converted by its user into a full-blood reflex paramotor canopy (conforming to the DGAC standard). Universal is a great free-flying recreational paraglider, including cross-country flights. Beginning XC pilots will surely appreciate exceptional comfort in uneasy thermals, resulting from considerable amount of reflex traits present in the design. On activating the trimmers and setting up the ALC+ steering, Universal becomes a full reflex paramotor wing, good for both leisure and cruise flying, thermalling, last but not least for initial paramotor training. Here’s a review from Matt Haunold who flew the universal at Propfest 2015. The biggest surprise for me after flying spending most of my time on the higher end Dudek wings was the Universal. I can't emphasize how amazed I was with the flight characteristics of this entry level wing. This is a wing that will serve a new pilot easily to an intermediate level and beyond and can also be used to free fly. Easy to launch, Easy to land, Can fly slow and fast, turns beautifully.
