From 1 December, the number of people able to attend weddings will be lifted to 300 (subject to the 4m indoor rule or 2m outdoor rule) As always, this is not the time to become complacent. 23.01.2022 Claire's 5 Most Asked Questions on Farm Succession & Financial Literacy 2. , ' ? Claire Booth reflects on what makes a great succession plan, Following on from the first question, the first stage, for me, does not include adult children. Claire says I want mum and dad to know this process is about them. They've worked very hard, and we need to look after them in retirement. Claire adds, It is common for couples to not have discussed thei...r expectations about retirement with each other so that's where we start. Claire finishes with these words: When [a husband and wife] have a shared vision, they are invincible in front of their kids and it is much easier to progress the needs and wants of the next generation. 04.01.2022 Claire's 5 Most Asked Questions on Farm Succession & Financial Literacy 1. ? Is 2021 the year you start your succession plan? Claire Booth says Most of our clients who are between 50 to 75 years of age have adult children asking what happens when mum/dad retire or pass away. The bank, accountant, and/or children are asking for something to 'happen', but they don't know where to start.... Claire continues, It often becomes clear after listening to the client that the main issue is communication between family members, uncertainty around taxation of assets, how retirement is funded, or how new debt might be serviced. Claire adds, Depending on the issue, I involve an expert who can assist with this initial hurdle. We set the client with one initial task as I find if people have a little win with one part of the process, they become more interested in tackling other aspects. Attempting to do everything at oncetax, cashflow, Wills, debt, communication, managing expectations etc. is a recipe for overwhelm.
