20.01.2022 Qualifer Adventurous Journey Completed Congratulations to our 16 participants who finished their expedition at Wallis Lake! This time the weather was not as nice to us as the winds picked up, but our Team rose above this challenge and did an excellent job navigating to our different destinations. We also had the chance to conduct towing exercises and complete some team building sessions on land, while being COVID safe. Overall, the students performed exceptionally and the...y should be very proud of their efforts. Well done everyone and you deserve a well-earned rest! 18.01.2022 Earlier this year (pre-COVID-19 restrictions), three Gold participants went to RSL LifeCare - Rowland Village to help download music, from the '40s-'50s, onto headphones for the local residents to enjoy. While several of these seniors are unable the talk, their smiles and laughter (in hearing music from their youth) conveyed their enjoyment, which was rewarding to watch. Well done, and thank you, to Ella Cotrona (School Captain), Denique Shai-Hee (Senior Prefect) and Emma Mer...cieca (Senior Prefect) for helping with this wonderful community service. We know the residents really appreciated it, and also thank Rowland Village for having several of our Duke of Ed students conduct their service at your facility (and for allowing us to post this picture). We hope to see everyone soon after the restrictions are lifted and it is safe to visit, and in the meantime encourage our participants to continue working on their Award during this time. 16.01.2022 On Friday, Dural RFS Deputy Kevin Ho (School parent of Gold Awardee Nathan Ho), Firefighter Ciaran Dyson (current Gold DoE participant) and Captain Jarryd Barton (Gold DoE Awardee) had the opportunity to speak at Northholm Grammar School about the recent fire season. While several of our Duke of Edinburgh Award students volunteer with the RFS for the Service component of the Award, many stay on afterwards to continue helping out this amazing and life-saving organisation. T...hank you again to the Dural Brigade for coming out and if anyone is interested in joining the RFS (they have a Junior Cadet program), please contact me or your local RFS. 14.01.2022 Last week, Gold DoE participant, Joseph Clemmit (Year 11) raised over $3000 through a Bake sale and BBQ lunch for the Leukaemia Foundation. Furthermore, Joseph had his hair shaved off as part of the World’s Greatest Shave in order to bring awareness of the organisation and of those dealing with blood cancer. Well done Joseph and thank you for your tireless contribution to help others! Northholm Grammar School DukeofEd Aus World's Greatest Shave

14.01.2022 A video message from our Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Prefect and Awardee, Matthew Gadd, regarding how to conduct the Award during isolation. Lots of wonderful advice and we encourage students to continue taking part in their skill, service and physical activity. Matt has done a wonderful job with this video, so please enjoy! Thank you, Matt! DukeofEd Aus Northholm Grammar School The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Australia

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 12 student, Lauren Ivory, who has just completed her Gold Award! This is a wonderful and massive achievement as this level of the Award requires participates to complete a service, skill and physical activity for one hour every week for an entire year. As well, Lauren took part in two 5 day kayaking AJ excursions and her Residential Project involved going to India to help those in need. She has also completed both her Bronze and Silver Awards over the last few years! Well done Lauren and we are very proud of you! Northholm Grammar School

12.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 12 student, Samuel Allen, who has just completed his Gold Award (in addition to his Bronze and Silver), which is the highest level of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award! Obtaining the Gold Award is not an easy feat as Sam had to complete a minimum of 12 months of a skill, physical activity and service, plus a 5 day Residential and 9 day Adventurous Journey! Doing this in normal times is quite impressive, but completing this level during a pandemic is inspirational! Well done Sam and we are very proud of you! Northholm Grammar School DukeofEd Aus

10.01.2022 Practice Adventurous Journey Completed! Well done to our 16 participants who have just finished the first half of their expedition. And what an expedition it has been so far with our paddlers experiencing the beautiful Wallis Lake and some pretty amazing weather (sunny days with very little wind)! In keeping with Government compliances, our numbers were restricted to the under 20 participants. Furthermore, students stayed in their own tents, cooked their own meals (no sha...ring) and our group stayed together. Hygiene practices were put into place with hand washing, use of hand sanitizer, and the amenities we used were cleaned with disinfectant. Students have risen to these additional challenges and we are very proud of their achievements!! Thank you also to X-terra Adventures for all your help with running these Journeys! 09.01.2022 The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is an internationally recognised Program for young people, building their skills to equip them for life and work. Many of our Northholm students take part in this wonderful program and they find it extremely rewarding. Students who would like to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award this year are invited to attend an Information Night at Northholm Grammar School at 6pm on Monday, 24 February in the library. Students, as well... as our parents/carers, will have the opportunity to hear about the benefits of the Program from those who have taken part in it including our School Captains, Duke of Edinburgh Prefect (Gold Awardee), as well as other participants from the Bronze to Gold level. This is a wonderful chance to hear their insights and experiences of the Award, and how it has helped them become #WorldReady. More information can be found within our School's Weekly Record and we look forward to seeing you and your daughter/son on the night. See more

08.01.2022 On Monday night, several of our Year Twelve Gold Award participants presented at our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Information Session. With a packed room, our newest members and their parents/carers had the opportunity to hear how this Program has impacted their lives in a variety of ways. The experiences they shared, highlighted the rewards and opportunities the Award can create, and I know there are now several very keen Bronze participants looking forward to beginning their own journey with the Program. A special thank you to School Captains Thomas Kropman and Ella Cotrona, Duke of Ed Prefect Matthew Gadd and Award Leader Isaac Whicker for their help on the night and inspiring our future DoE leaders. 07.01.2022 On Friday night, a Bushfire Relief Fundraiser event for the residents of Shoalhaven occurred, in which all proceeds will go to those that were impacted by this disaster. This was organised by our Northholm family the Shah’s, with the help of their daughter, Pari Shah. Pari, who is a Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award participant in Year Eleven, aided with this wonderful initiative and spoke throughout the night about those that would be helped. Additionally, Gold Duke of Ed par...ticipant Ciaran Dyson attended (as a RFS volunteer, along with Dural Brigade Deputy Captain Andrew Dyson) and spoke about the Rural Fire Service’s involvement in fighting these fires. It was a wonderful night with more than $16,000 raised to provide for those in need. Congratulations to everyone involved and such a beautiful way to give back to others. 02.01.2022 ANZAC Day is a time to remember all those who served, and were lost, in war or conflict. It is day to remember past servicemembers and to thank current servicemembers for their contributions and one of the ways we acknowledge those is through the Dawn Service. This year, many took part in the Light up the Dawn ceremony, where a minute of silence was observed outside one’s house. Australians also were encouraged to take a candle with them to help light up the dawn and and as a sign of respect for our Veterans. Along with many others, Gold Duke of Edinburgh participant Ciaran Dyson, took part in this service. We thank everyone for taking the time to remember and reflect during this special day. Lest we Forget. DukeofEd Aus Northholm Grammar School
