23.01.2022 Final Roasts Peru Nelida Zurita (Organic) Filter Superstar producer Nelida Zurita founded the Chope Womens Group in 2016; a group of Mujeres emprendedoras e innovadoras (enterprising and innovative women) within the Alto Mayo cooperative, which is comprised of 48 women-lead or entirely women-owned farms located in the western regions of Moyobamba, Peru. Nelida founded this group as a kind of insurrection against the men in their community (mostly their own hus...bands!) and against chemical agriculture, inspired by Nelidas own journey towards totally Organic farming. Nelidas subsistence farm, Finca Lajas, is located in the community of Santa Rosa del Mirado, where she cultivates Catuai, Caturra and Typica varieties under the shade of Inca and Legume trees. This coffee has been a delicious brew; it's juicy and clean with vibrant citrus and stone fruit with light honey finish. 20.01.2022 Our latest espresso offering is from the Suke Quto Farm and pioneering owner and producer, Tesfaye Bekele. From 1997 to 1999, vast swathes of the Guji zone (over 5000 forest acres) were destroyed by large bushfires. During this crisis, Tesfaye worked in Natural Resource and Environmental Protection for the government of Ethiopia, responsible for both the Guji and Borena zones. In the aftermath of these horrific fires, Tesfaye had the large responsibility to rebuil...d and find new ways to conserve this important area. Tesfaye realised that he could not stop locals returning to these deforested lands and came up with the idea to replant the forests and add coffee trees to enhance diversity. He became the first in his community to initiate coffee growing, by creating a seedling nursery on a small plot of land he reserved. He was motivated to show that preserving Guji's forest was an all encompassing investment for the Guji people. Tesfaye focuses on environmentally friendly coffee and on the economic growth of the community. In other words, people should make a living income from sustainable coffee production. Today, all the coffee farms in Guji were inspired by the Suke Quto Farm and together with Haile Gebre, from the neighbouring Shakisso Farm, Tesfaye is one of the innovative forces that shaped the success of Guji coffee. #dukescoffee #dukescoffeeroasters See more

19.01.2022 Have you tried our silky smooth espresso from the Eno family in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea? This is a family plantation which, after a brief period as a bio-dynamic farm, has now reverted to NASAA organic due to the more difficult conditions required for bio-dynamic. Producers Mitch and Ricky Eno are third generations coffee farmers and have been instrumental in championing organic farming practices within the Highlands Organic Agriculture C...o-operative (HOAC). Were incredibly excited to support the Eno Family this year and have the opportunity to roast their coffee. #dukescoffee #dukescoffeeroasters See more

19.01.2022 We're excited to introduce two new coffees from the Asotbilbao Cooperative, a group of hardworking organic producers from South Tolima that we have worked with since 2015. As one of their largest direct export customers, Dukes is proud to be working with the team at Asotbilbao to continue developing their coffee quality capabilities and achieve even better financial outcomes for the producers. The Cooperative is managed by Odavey Reinoso, Yuver Andres Arambulo, Nor...vey Estrada, and Fernando Rodriguez, the first three of which we are proud to feature as single producers in our pilot microlot program as part of the 2019-20 harvest. Roasted for filter brewing, Odavey Reinoso's harvest of Bourbon and Caturra is a very clean and sweet brew, with white peach notes and a smooth vanilla sweetness. 08.01.2022 This week, we started roasting the January 2020 harvest of an incredibly well-balanced and full-bodied SL28 variety from La Campanula in Santa Ana, El Salvador. Producer Fernando Lima proudly describes his coffee farms as a Time capsule; an idyllic snapshot of agriculture from the early twentieth century where farming practices were derived from the distilled knowledge and experience of generations. However, it was not a romanticised view of traditional farming me...thods that first led the Lima family to seek organic certification. In 2006 the Volcano Santa Ana (Ilamtepeque) erupted, destroying much of the farms infrastructure and damaging the coffee plantations. In conjunction with the chemical agricultural products that had been used on the farm prior to the eruption, the ash served to acidify the soil to such an extent that synthetic fertilisers were no longer viable and in fact would prove detrimental to plant health. Faced with a decision that had already been partially made by circumstance, the Lima family moved to take advantage of the natural wealth provided by the volcanic geology of their farms and restructure their entire operation to be certified organic and adopt natural and sustainable methods of production. We're thrilled to be able to share this truly delicious, organically cultivated coffee with you all. Head online to learn more and grab a bag for home! #dukescoffee #dukescoffeeroasters See more

07.01.2022 Well balanced and exceptionally full-bodied, boasting juicy red grape and roasted hazelnut notes, our latest filter roast from producer Fernando Lima and his farm, La Campanula, is a delicious treat. When we spoke to Fernando over the course of this growing season, he revealed that he was already preparing for the universal challenge of Global warming. They had in fact spent the day planting new lots of Orange Bourbon, Pacamara and Gesha in some of the highest parts of S...anta Elena, at an altitude of 1950m. Just a few years ago, these locations were climatically too cold for coffee plants, now Fernando looks to them as the bastion of the farms future viability. This specific lot is a SL28 variety, harvested on 14th January 2020 and processed naturally at Fernandos family owned mill, Los Balcanes. #dukescoffee #dukescoffeeroasters See more

06.01.2022 The three coffees that make up our Highwire Organic blendfrom our friends and colleagues in Colombia, Peru and Ethiopiaare the best of the best: coffees produced cleanly, with care taken by and for the communities who produce them, and represent the true future of the coffee industry in each of their countries of origin. For our Colombian component we have worked with the Asotbilbao Cooperative from South Tolima since 2015. Asotbilbao is not a large cooperative but in ...their short history they have become well known and well respected for their consistently exceptional coffee quality and intense focus on developing their community. Our Peruvian component is from superstar producer Nelida Zurita's Chope Womens Group a sub-group of the Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Alto Mayo. 2019 was the first time that the Chope Womens coffee has been specifically separated from the mens for export, and we are proud that Dukes is the exclusive and permanent partner for this group purchasing 100% of their production output this year and on-going. The final component is from the renowned Worka Cooperative in Ethiopia. The particular lot that we have selected from the Worka Cooperative is a single-producer separation from producer Gelgelu Edema, selected by YCFCU for their pilot single-farmer microlot program, where an exceptional quality producers coffee is separated through the entire wet and dry milling process. Together, these three exceptional Organic certified coffees form a rich and creamy blend, with nougat and blackforest cherry cake notes. #dukescoffee #dukescoffeeroasters #organiccoffee See more
