22.01.2022 Still time to fill out the Carnaby survey Your help is needed to tell us about the sightings or lack of sightings of Carnaby Cockatoos in the Shire. The Carnaby... is out in this region nesting now. The short online survey is a mapping exercise and recording lack of sightings is just as important. If you need help or would prefer me to fill out your survey, please contact Claudia on 0429 612 447. Please open the link to start the survey. https://app.maptionnaire.com/en/7399/ A Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo. PHOTO CREDIT: KEITH LIGHTBODY.

19.01.2022 CHECKING OUT TREE HOLLOWS! As a follow up to the Carnaby Cockatoo survey, a monitoring camera was taken into the field recently to check for active nests. First...ly, we had to develop our skills and test the camera before tackling the big job! Sadly, we didn’t find any active Carnaby nests, but observed many gallah’s and 28 parrots popping their heads out of tree hollows (maybe nesting in old Carnaby hollows). With these common birds breeding in the safety of the upper tree hollows, it is easy to see why numbers are dominating our agricultural area & bushland. Many thanks to SWCC for the use of the specialised equipment and the Volunteers who braved the bush flies to assist with the monitoring. If you have sited any black cockatoos hanging round woodland on your farm, please contact Claudia on 0429612447 #landcare Sodu ShireofDumbleyung See more
