24.01.2022 Curse, Character, Class The number of injuries that have hit the Rovers Premier League squad in the last 3 weeks has created talk of a Curse of Dunbar. The squads 10 injuries were added to on Monday night. Aaron Dunne breaking his arm in 30 (yes 30) pieces in an entertaining Ressies draw versus Glebe Gorillas. After 2 operations Aaron is thankfully on the mend. Thursday night we had the concerning news of Max Nielsen being taken to intensive care after being knocked off...Continue reading

21.01.2022 The Battle of the Flatmates It was dubbed by many as the battle of tweedle dum and tweedle dee but more about that later. Saturday saw 2 more entertaining matches play out as the Rovers premier league squad traveled south to Chifley Reserve to face Randwick City FC. First up the Ressies. With the squad still ravaged with injuries the Rovers welcomed Simon Megalos from the all age mens sides to help bolster the effort. But for a slow opening 5 minutes the rest ...of the first hour Dunbar dominated possession. James Robertson and Sam Walker were In particularly strong form dominating the game. However the Rovers just failed to create many chances for their hardworking forwards. 2 classic counter attacks and it was 2 nil to Randwick. From then on both teams played out a great game but no further goals were scored. Final score 2-0 to Randwick FC. A fair result, a good team that Im sure will do well this season. Corporate Fighter Man of the Match goes to Sam Walker. Next up the battle of the flat mates... No not yet... The Prems needing to get back on track after slipping to a draw last week. They started well, slick football, great movement, chances created and only a couple of early good saves from Randwick keeper Andy Farnfield stopped a team playing with confidence. Oliver Briggs was proving a constant threat up top and combing well with Josh Brigham and Tim Bowman Then after a stunning move Darragh Reynor struck home from 20 yards to take the Rovers into a 1-0 lead. Charlie Fanner making a fine save moments later but the rest of the half was comfortable. 70 mins gone, a second yellow card meant the now 10 men of Rovers had their backs against the wall. Enter the Battle of the Flatmates Matt Eve returning from injury, coming off the bench to help see the game out and won a penalty. He then proceeded to grab the ball so he could take the kick against his flat mate Andy Farnfield in the Randwick goal. Farnfield has history against Dunbar saving a crucial last minute penalty for Phoenix v Dunbar Ressies last season. These 2 are good mates and practice taking penalties against each other (not sure this was going to be a good idea to take the pen Matt?) Video attached - the result was a fine save from Farnfield but Eve pounced on the rebound to make it 2-0. Game over. No A late Randwick strike led to an exciting end to the game. But Rovers held out for a 2-1 victory. Who won the bragging rights ? Eve for the goal or Farnfield for the first save ? You decide but Ollie Briggs picks up the corporatefighternyc Man of The Match See more

16.01.2022 This is football. This is Dunbar! And so after the never ending wait, both the Prems and Ressies opened up their 2020 season with two solid wins against the new look Maroubra United. In a glorious afternoon down at the Reg. The RESSIES, captain by club stalwart Iain Downie and sporting some great new signings, took control from the off and dominated the first half. The midfield three of Dave, Robbo and Mairo quickly pulling the strings in the middle of the park, with some exc...ellent full back runs from new signing and Vanuatu International Rob Maliwan. For all their efforts however, Dunbar were lacking in the final 3rd and failed to break down the resolute United defence, despite the hard yards being put in by new dad Ali Davies. Mid way through the 2nd half however, The Dunbar Immortal and former captain, Timmy Tap In Bowman (having driven 8 hours from a job in the middle of nowhere) was summoned from the bench to do what he does best. No tap in this time however as he riffled one in from the edge of the box. 1-0 Dunbar. From there, Dunbar took further control and after some excellent work in the box from new signing Aaron, he was hacked down for a pen. Up stepped another new and exciting signing in Colly May, to smash home the spotkick and secure all 3 points. A great opening win and exciting to see this team come together. Final score Dunbar 2 Maroubra United 0 Ressies Corporate Fighter Man of the Match Rob Maliwan The PREMS, captained by Jack Shepard, faced more of a challenge in their opening exchanges, with a Maroubra side showing their Portuguese flair and several players in particular (number 10 and number 14) proving a real handful. The boys soon found some rhythm however, with Jack Smith & Leon at the back asserting control and some energetic runs from the midfield three (Shep, Tommy, Luke). And then a moment of brilliance from Luke, picking out a sensational long ball to former Coogee man and new signing Max on the far left, who cut in superbly and smashed in a glorious goal in the bottom corner. 1-0 half time. 2nd half saw Dunbar up the gears and two new signings in Josh and Darragh coming off the bench and quickly upping the tempo with some classy runs. A fast break mid way through the 2nd half saw the ball drop to Max again, who took his time to clear some space and bend one in top bins. Quality. The final quarter of the match was all Dunbar and Darragh was finally rewarded for his efforts and passion for wanting the ball (!) with a goal at the far post with a well worked team goal and classy assist from Josh. A very good start from a very good squad. Final score Dunbar Rovers 3 Maroubra United 0 Prems Corporate Fighter Man of the Match Max A big thank you to Maroubra United who will be real handful this season. And to the match officials for two very well run games.

16.01.2022 Our wonderful AAW2s celebrated their first win of the season today against Sydney Uni. Two great goals from @gabbmartin and the winner from player/coach @chintwin2 final score 3-2! Well done girls, doing us proud!!! #winners #esfa #dunbarroverswomen #football

15.01.2022 Dunbar Rovers O35 Championship hat-trick! The Background Dunbar O35As beat close rivals Glebe 1-0 last night to secure a three-peat league championship under coach Charlie de Sousa. The team includes many prominent Dunbar players who have enjoyed numerous success at ESFA championship level over two decades. A credit to Dunbar coaches past and present. In a tight, scrappy game, Robbie Shields dispatched the winning penalty with just five minutes remaining. A rousing rendition of Championes echoed around Heffron after the final whistle. Dunbar 35s now have a hat-trick of league titles and seven in the past eight years including the previous generation under Taggy’s leadership. Congrats to Glebe on two very hard fought matches against Dunbar and their strong season so far.

15.01.2022 Mixed results at Moore Park as Round 2 saw Dunbar Rovers FC take on Glebe Wanderers FC The RESSIES welcomed new signing George Arnold to the set up, with Dunbar enticing the former Stockport Town, Glebe Gorillas and UNSW keeper out of early retirement to act as cover between the sticks for the injured Evan. The Dunbar defence was quickly put to the test with Wanderers coming out strongly and putting some dangerous balls in the box. Dunbar weathered the storm however and began... to control the key battle in the middle of park with Mairo in particular continuing his good form from last week. Mid way through the first half, an injury to captain Iain Downie forced a reshuffle and new striker Olly was thrown into the action. And it was Olly who ultimately broke the deadlock, rising highest in the box to head home the opener after a brilliant ball in from Aaron. 1-0 Dunbar at half time. The second half saw Dunbar up the tempo and start taking control of the game with some great overlapping play from the fullbacks and link up play from the front 3. But it was Sam Walker, brilliant all game, who doubled the scoring, with a sensational run from his own half, beating the Wanders defence and slotting past the keeper. From there Dunbar saw out the game in relative ease, with new signing Dan coming off the bench putting the game out of reach with a smart finish from inside the box and much to the delight of his fan club (his misses and her dad on the park bench). A late Dunbar own goal and injury to star man Colly took some of the gloss of the win but otherwise a very dominant performance from the lads. Final score Dunbar 3 Glebe Wanderers 1 Ressies Corporate Fighter Man Of The Match Sam Walker The PREMS faced a much harder battle from a fired up and physical Wanders side who didnt give Dunbar an inch. It was the Wanderers who looked the better side and deservedly took the lead with a quality goal from their striker into the top corner. Dunbar were lacking in fluency and shape which is perhaps not surprising from a team with new signings still finding their feet. Half time 0-1. The second half was more of the same with Wanderers looking more in control, and they soon doubled their lead with a powerful header at the far post after a very good free kick into the box. Dunbar fought hard to get back into the game, with the gaffer even making a quintuple substitution (yes 5) to try and turn things around. It wasnt to be and Wanderers managed to hold their lead which could have been worse for the Dunbar boys were it not for a couple of brilliant saves from Charlie. Full credit to Wanderers who deserved their victory. A sharp lesson for our lads in this tough league Final score Dunbar 0 Glebe Wanderers 2 Prems @CorporateFighter Man Of The Match- Charlie Fanner Thanks to the supporters who came down to support both games.

13.01.2022 Craters & Comebacks Dunbar Rovers FC v Waverley Old Boys FC With the injury list at Dunbar becoming as farcical as a Donald Trump speech, there were a few nerves from reserve grade coach Ian Clayton (and this writer) upon seeing the state of the pitch. Therefore the day started with some green keeping filling in some large crater / potholes across the pitch in the hope of steering through the afternoon safely with no broken ankles. First up the Reserve Grade.... After dominating the first 20 mins, 2 quick strikes against the run of play and it was a bewildered Rovers that were 2-0 down. A fine strike from James Robertson from a wide angle made it 2-1. Then a classy finish from Gary Goals Rafferty 2-2 half time. The scene was set for an enthralling 2nd half and it delivered. End to end stuff but it was Rovers that went ahead. Paddy Millington-Buck and Gary Rafferty combining well in a classy move for James Robertson to tap in 3-2. A great game came to an end with a late equaliser from Waverley 3-3 and probably a fair result. Corporate Fighter Man of the Match goes to the outstanding James Robertson. Next up the Prems. Following lasts weeks excellent performance and result versus Sydney CBD FC, a good performance was expected. However, this was not the case and the first half saw Waverley dominate to go into halftime with a deserved 2-0 lead. A spark was needed and Darragh Reynor found it. A brilliant free kick striking the inside of the post for Matt Eve to tap the ball in the over the line. Game on. Moments later and the highlight of the day with Junio Silva striking the ball, on the run, on the volley, with the inside of his foot from fully 30 yards. The ball flying into the net in what is without doubt the Dunbar goal of the season to date. Junio who arrived on these shores weeks before the start of last season has been a revelation in the Dunbar shirt. The Portuguese talent who grew up and played alongside Man Utds Bruno Fernandez until very recently, sprinted into grab the ball out of the net following his first goal for the club. 2-2. Now it was time to play some ball. A sweeping move ending up with a Tim Bowman flying header. 3-2 woo hoo! (Picture below) The drama was to continue though, some missed Dunbar chances were punished with Waverley equalising from a well worked goal. 3-3 same as the first game... no Dunbar pressed for the win and after a fine move Matt Eve tapped in to secure the 3 points. Final Score 4-3 and no ankles broken. Job done. Corporate Fitness Centre Man of the Match goes to the enigmatic Junio Silva.

12.01.2022 We are so excited to announce a new Dunbar partnership with one of Sydneys favourite pubs. The Unicorn Hotel in Paddington offers a friendly and relaxed community focused vibe, aligning perfectly with our clubs culture and values. Following our initial discussions with The Unicorn, we came to discover a little unknown fact that this pub was already a prominent part of our Dunbar history. Club President Quintin Freeman and the original team frequented The Unicorn playing a... vital role in the formation of Dunbar Rovers some 30 years ago. At least 6 Lads would meet at 6pm every Friday at The Unicorn to talk tactics, nicknaming the catch up The 6@6. As we enter our 30th year, Dunbar Rovers couldnt think of a better venue to team up with for the 2020 season. Offering tasty American style slow cooked barbecue, fried chicken and cheeseburgers and arguably Sydneys best Schnitty, this will be the ideal spot to fill a hungry belly after 90 minutes of football on the weekend and talking those tactics midweek. The bar is charming, the people are lovely, the food and drink is plentiful and we just know this is a match made in heaven. 106 Oxford Street, Paddington, how easy is that! If you would like to organise a space for your team or enjoy your own 6@6 please contact Scott Sadler at [email protected] or Emma Watson at [email protected]

10.01.2022 Reflection and Respect Saturdays 2 matches took on a different meaning as both Waverley Old Boys FC and the Rovers Premier League squads paid their respects to Coogee United FCs Deklan Gilmartin who sadly passed away this week. Our thoughts are with all of Deklans family, friends. The football saw 2 entertaining matches play out. The Ressies winning 4-1 following goals from Oliver Briggs, Ali Davies, Gary Rafferty and Davy Hanlon. The unbeaten run continues. The Prems... were involved in an exciting match. Leading 1-0 until a crazy final 10 minutes saw 5 more goals fly in including a half way line strike from Darragh Reynor. Reynor scoring another alongside one from Tommy Cook. The game ended following a bad injury to the Waverley keeper, we wish him well in his recovery. Final score 3-3 Today the squads Corporate Fighter Man of the Match is dedicated to Deklan Gilmartin RIP Deklan. Coogee United FC PL & PLR Waverley Old Boys Football Club See more

09.01.2022 UPDATE ON RESUMPTION OF FOOTBALL Im sure everyone is getting excited about the prospect of playing some football, or at least just training together. However, both FNSW and ESFA have stated that football training in groups should not go ahead until Wednesday May 20th at the earliest. While it is positive that restrictions have opened up to allow groups of 10 to gather, guidelines for how to train for football safely have yet to be issued for NSW. The Dunbar board will keep coaches and members up to date, so that we can all get back into football in the correct and safest manner. In the meantime, as a starter, the club is working to provide fitness training sessions to coaches. Stay tuned. Olly Crouch, Secretary, Dunbar Rovers FC.

07.01.2022 Ressies march on, Prems stumble in Round 4 at Moore Park against Lokomotive Cove FC. The RESSIES continued their unbeaten start to the season with another excellent win. Dunbar came out the blocks flying and were ahead inside the first 10 minutes, striker Olly Briggs latching on to a smart flick on from Ali Davies after a good ball into the box from Rob Maliwan. It was all Dunbar from there, with the midfield three asserting control in the middle of the park. And it was soon ...2-0, with centre mid Dave Lewis turning his man and picking out Olly with a delightful long ball - the striker cutting inside the box and finishing low in to the bottom corner. Dunbar continued to dominate and breached the Loko defence yet again with a great ball from Robbo to Ali who whipped one across the 6 yard box for Olly to slide home his first half hattrick. Class from the new lad! Loko pulled one back before the break following a mix up at the back but the half belonged to Dunbar. 3-1 half time. The 2nd half was a different story completely as Loko rallied hard and came right back into the game, and were it not for the brilliance of new keeper George Arnold, the scores would have certainly been levelled. One save in particular, tipping a brilliant strike past the post, was top drawer and proves again what a great signing he is. In the end however the first half heroics of Olly was enough to seal all three points and the boys march on to face Glebe Gorillas on Monday night. Ressies Final Score Dunbar 3 - Loko 1. Corporate Fighter Man of the Match - Olly Briggs For a Dunbar point of view, the least said about the PREMS game the better. The lads were all brilliant on Monday night, clinically dispatching Glebe Gorillas with a performance full of energy and desire, which for some reason was lacking against a fired up Loko. Dunbar took an early lead through Matt Eve, after a sharp ball into from Darragh Reynor. The joy was short-lived however as Loko twice took advantage of mistakes at the back to go two up. 1-2 half time. In the 2nd half, Loko simply wanted it more and didnt give Dunbar an inch. Their persistence paid off with two more in the 2nd half as Dunbar tried in vain to claw the game back, lacking in any fluency or composure however. Indeed, it could have been worse as Loko also missed a pen. Full credit to Loko as they fully deserved their victory. For Dunbar, another sharp lesson in this tough league where maintaining form & momentum will be key. Prems Final Score 1-4 Corporate Fighter Man of The Match - Matt Eve Thanks to Ben Caban - @cabans_photography - for the photos

05.01.2022 ‘Spice Boys’ versus the ‘Green Bhoys’ The sun was shing at the Reg Bartley Oval on Saturday afternoon ahead of a mouth watering encounter with Phoenix FC. First up the ressies: A keenly fought encounter was close until the final 20 mins. With the score at 1-1, Phoenix Ressies, going for the Ressies title, took control. 2 goals in the final 20 mins sealed the victory. Final score 1-3. Next up the Prems: After the prems great win against Coogee United FC in the week the Dunbar ...‘Spice Boys’ were ready to continue their 5 match winning streak against the ‘Green Bhoys’. A Matt Eve over head, a Darragh Reynor penalty and after a fine team move, a great finish from Max Nielsen saw the ‘Spice boys’ take a dominant 3-0 lead into halftime. Shortly after it was 5-0 with Eve completing his hatrick with 2 poachers goals. 2 consolation goals from the men in the green completed the score. Final Score 5-2 and the winning streak continues. 05.01.2022 MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Coogee United FC v Dunbar Rovers FC Premier League - Reserve Grade Monday Night Football took us to Hefron Synthetic for a mouth watering tie against Coogee United. The Rovers, knowing a win was vital to push for the title, were up against a strong Coogee side coached by former Dunbar coach Lee Burney. Coogee started the brighter of the 2 sides chasing down every ball and almost snatching an early goal against a sleepy Dunbar. The half was played out a...t a high intensity with good quality from both sides. However the final 5 minutes of the first half Dunbar took control playing some electric football that might have just sparked a belief that they could push on in the 2nd half to win the game. Half time 0-0. Indeed it did spark even more wonderful passing resulting in James Muzza Murray dancing through the Coogee defence to score. 1-0. Dunbar dominated for the next period but couldnt get that crucial 2nd goal. The final 20 minutes Coogee pushed hard for the equaliser but to no avail. The game being closed out with minutes to go by another fine team move resulting in Murray striking home his second to secure the 3 points. A well contested match played out in a very good spirit. Final Score 2-0. The Corporate Fighter Man of the Match is James Murray for a sublime performance. See more

03.01.2022 Wonderous but left wondering.... ESFA Mens Premier League Locomotive Cove v Dunbar Rovers FC With 1 match left to go the Rovers have been left wondering what might have been as they continue to finish off the season with some wonderful goals and performances.... First up the Ressies with a comfortable 3-0 win. The Rovers were delighted to see keeper Evan Davies return from an injury sustained in matchday 1 and Ollie Briggs who has missed the last 6 weeks. Both delivered with outstanding performances, Davies delivering a clean sheet and Briggs a goal. It was 3 second half goals from Ollie Briggs, Dan Swinton and Gary Rafferty that made the scoreline reflective of the dominant performance. Final score 3-0. The outstanding Reece Lancaster who has missed much of the season through injury gave a wonderous performance in the centre of the park, dictating the rythym of the match and hence picks up the Corporate Fighter ‘Man of the Match’ (picture) Next up the Prems. Some great passing and moving created an early opening for Darragh Reynor to complete a wonderful finish and a potential goal of the season by lobbing the keeper. Further goals from Matt Eve, Tim Bowman, a 2nd from Reynor and a 70 yard wonder strike from Jack Smith saw the Rovers run out 5-2 victors. Thats 8 in a row for the reigning champions who are finishing the season off in style. The run has come a little too late for this season with this wonderful run leaving them wondering what might have been.... corporatefighternyc ‘Man of the Match’ goes to the creativity and drive of Darragh Reynor. 1 more tie to play against Randwick City FC and the squad will be looking to finish the season off in style!

01.01.2022 Jigging and a Digging ESFA Premier League Glebe Wanderers FC v Dunbar Rovers FC First up the Ressies... The sun was shining at Hefron Park with Dunbar in 3rd place gunning to close the gap at the top against 4th place Wanderers. A slow start for the Rovers led to an early let off with the Wanderers seeing a couple of chances ‘wander’ wide. The game then settled into an even affair until the 30 minute mark when a slick passing move from the Wanderers opened up the Rovers defence and a tidy finish made it 1-0. Dunbar reacted well with some positive football but no real chances. Half time 1-0. A debut substitution from new signing Phil Campbell, who showed some class was the highlight of a drab 2nd half. The game finsihed 1-0 to Glebe. A very dissapointing result but I am sure the team will bounce back next week. Next up the Prems An exciting game was played out between top of the league Wanderers and Rovers in 4th place. Only a win would do for the away side and that is what was delivered. First half: With the wind behind them Glebe tried constantly to take advantage of it with long ball after long ball testing the Dunbar defence. It resulted in two clear cut chances in the first half. One a header against the cross bar and another that flew just wide. Rovers themselves only creating a couple of half chances in what was a battling defensive first half with Jack Smith and Sam Walker outstanding as centre backs. Half time 0-0. Dunbar started the second half on fire with some fast slick football this time Jack Smith and Sam Walker becoming playmakers setting up passages of play with a range of quality short and medium passes. James Murray digging a shot out went close, Matt Eve jigging through the defense nearly opened up Glebe. It was coming.....and it did when Tim Bowman struck home after another fine move. Dunbar continued to press and when the outstanding Max Nielsen ran 40 yards to collect the ball, jigged past 3 defenders and smacked the ball home everyone jumped to celebrate - but alas the ball crashed against the crossbar and bounced down on the line and away (where is VAR when you need?) From that point on the last 20 minutes became a backs against the wall affair, digging in to battle to protect the 3 points. Charlie Fanner in goal outstanding and those 2 centebacks just class! Final Score 1-0 to the Rovers and gap closed at the top.... Corporate Fighter ‘Man of the Matches’ go jointly to the those 2 centrebacks Jack Smith and Sam Walker. Next up Pagewood FC See more
