23.01.2022 The Dunbeacon Supplementary Sheet is now online on our website: www.dunbeacon.com.au The photo below is of Lot 2 Dunbeacon Jaffa J121. Jaffa has grown into a phenomenal carcase bull with excellent fat cover and muscle expression, along with a maturity pattern that we believe is what is required in the beef industry at this present time.... Here at Dunbeacon, we are striving to produce medium maturity bulls with growth, thickness and finishing ability breeding cattle that will survive the riggers of the diverse Australian environment.

22.01.2022 We always welcome visitors here at Dunbeacon. A very enjoyable day we had when Bill and Judy Austin (Austins Shorthorns, NZ) and Ken and Virginia Morison (Eionmor Shorthorns, Canada) visited us on their tour around Australia. Thank you for stopping in. May the cattle prices continue, like they have in NZ and Canada.

13.01.2022 Thank you to all of the buyers and under bidders, agents, friends and family who contributed to make the 20th Dunbeacon Formula 1 Bull Sale such a success on Monday. The sale topped at $11,000 twice (Lot 3 - Dunbeacon Kookaburra K016 and Lot 12 - Dunbeacon Kingston K048, pictured below) and averaged a fantastic $7,333 per head. It is awesome to see the confidence in the cattle industry and in the Shorthorn breed. Thank you from Ian & Ali, David & Joan McDouall

10.01.2022 2015 Dunbeacon Sale Tops at $11,000 The strength of the beef market was again evident at the Dunbeacon Formula 1 Bull sale held last Monday, the 7th September. Commercial producers pushed bulls to a top of $11,000 ( to the Murray Family at Guyra ) for Lot 4 (pictured), with the days average moving up on last year to $6145. There was a mixture of repeat buyers and new breeders, who travelled from South Australia, Southern Queensland, the New England and Southern New South Wale...s. Local Shorthorn breeders also competed strongly to secure extra bulls to take advantage of a good season and join extra numbers. It was evident that producers were chasing well grown cattle with lower birth weights and positive fat cover to produce low cost easy maintenance females, an aspect of the production system that Dunbeacon has been pushing hard for many years. Thank you to the successful purchasers for your spirited bidding and to the under bidders - we hope to see you next year. A big thank you to all involved in creating a great day.

01.01.2022 JBS AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCE SHORTHORN BREED BRAND JBS Australia has announced that from October 1st 2015, they require Shorthorn feeder steers for a newly created Sh...orthorn breed based Branded Beef program. The Shorthorn brand will be an exclusive niche brand, targeted at the high-end food service trade both domestically and internationally. The finished beef product will be further underpinned by MSA grading and achieve a minimum marble score of two. JBS Australia’s Sales Manager Northern, Brendan Tatt, said, Eating quality and meat specifications are one thing, but this beef product will be highly exclusive and to target the high end of the market will require a brand with a strong, true and unwavering story. Cattle will be grain fed at one of JBS Australia’s five feedlots and initially processed at the Riverina Beef plant near Narrandera in southern NSW. JBS Australia has a long history with the Shorthorn breed, and we have been able to look back through the hard data and empirical feedback from our customers to know the market demand was there to accept a brand underpinned by the Shorthorn breed, Duane Woodham, JBS Australia’s Manager Livestock Northern, said. This is represents a tremendous step forward for the Shorthorn breed in Australia. The branded beef program will not only create a premium feeder market for Shorthorn producers but will also allow the Shorthorn breed to tell it’s story to consumers, one of the oldest and richest stories in the Australian Beef industry. It will also provide Shorthorn breeders with a very clear target for production, a target driven completely by consumer demand. Feedback will be available through the JBS Australia system. Cattle will be sourced this month with cattle penned from October 1st. Cattle will be inducted at one of 5 JBS Australia feedlots. Initially 350 head will be required per week. Cattle required will be either pure Shorthorn or minimum 75% Shorthorn content crossed with British breeds, 380 500 kg curfewed weight and milk or 2 tooth. This is a tremendous opportunity for the Shorthorn breed and also for Shorthorn breeders and Shorthorn Beef needs your support to ensure that this program will continue to develop and grow. Producers wishing to supply this premium market will need to register with Shorthorn Beef to achieve maximum pricing for their steers. Registration is a simple process, forms are available from the Shorthorn Beef office or website. Breeders are encouraged to register early to ensure maximum competition for their Shorthorn cattle.
