21.01.2022 I have been searching for nearly 4 years to find a Mediterranean type grass ( winter active) that will persist on our sandy loam soils (ph 5.5and above) , is tough yet performs when we need it over the cold winter months. We already have a number of high performing tropical grasses for over the summer period however winter continues to be dominated by annual crops ( which are great in the short term) . But I want something that can perform for 10 years plus! This could be th...e answer. It’s very tough, I know it will persist and looks like it will perform on our lighter country. The clover base will aid in improving the palatability and quality of the grasses. Plenty of spray options. Fletcha fescue and sirosa phalaris with a blend of clovers. This stand was sown in late March 2020.

21.01.2022 Merino lambs about to go on the Palloton for the 4th graze! Plant numbers are still hanging in there. Next to no insect damage which is very interesting given brassica crops grown over the spring and summer in previous years. Will keep you posted as to how it goes. Again 280 lambs going onto it! ... PGG Wrightson Ltd

20.01.2022 We’ve been putting the new Gallagher TWR 5 through it’s paces. We used it for the stud ewe lambs weights today and it worked extremely well. Cloud based data I can access anywhere will be very handy. Top ewe weighed 71 kg with the group averaging 59kg. A pleasing result given their start in life.

19.01.2022 Palloton update. Sown 8th may with the aim to graze first week of August to fit in with locking up dual purpose crops at the start of August. Looks the goods. Will wean lambs onto it by the end of the week. 28% protein they should fly on it!! PGG Wrightson Seeds (Australia) Pty LTD

17.01.2022 Palloton update. Had the boys from PGG Wrightson Ltd here this week. Great to pick there brains on this plant that could be a massive $$ earner in the system. Some mild weather and this plant is absolutely pumping. 14 days difference between the photos.

13.01.2022 Palloton update: Anothe graze completed on the Palloton (very quick recovery time 19 days). Again had 330 1st cross lambs back on there and completed a 20 day graze on the 5 ha. Lambs have done 300g/day in that twenty days. Went a little bit harder on the graze compared to last time. Will keep you all updated re recovery. Looking the goods and will be interesting to see how it handles some heat.... PGG Wrightson Seeds (Australia) Pty LTD

10.01.2022 New Mediterranean grasses (winter active) have established well. Combined with the clovers they are up there with some of the best quality feed we have produced.

10.01.2022 Palloton update. After budgeting on 21 days of feed (330 lambs on 5ha) we ended up getting 20 days. - Lambs have put on 5.5 kg per lamb equating to 275g/day. - A good result considering lambs were weaned as they went on.... Next graze as the weather warms up will be of great interest. Expecting big things. PGG Wrightson Ltd

03.01.2022 Weighed the sales rams a few days ago (just over 12 months of age) Pleasing results with the biggest topping at 104kg and averaging 84kg. A lot easier with a bit of green grass around. Theses rams have been on grazing crops and pasture since the autumn break in March. No feeders just grass.
