22.01.2022 Ms Rechichi's Year 8 students recently took part in an ocean cleaning engineering project. Students had to design, create prototypes, evaluate, modify and then present to the class and demonstrate. Designs were judged on their effectiveness, innovation and teamwork. Not-for-profit charity R U OK? is working to inspire everyone, no matter their age or location, to invest more time in the people around them and give them the skills, motivation and confidence to start a conversation with anyone who might be doing it tough. On Wednesday 9th September Duncraig SHS will be hosting a raffle, bake sale, sausage sizzle (vegetarian and halal options), there will be games at recess with prizes to... be won and students are encouraged to wear yellow * for a gold coin donation. 19.01.2022 The Western Australian Container Deposit Scheme has launched and Duncraig SHS has embraced the scheme as an opportunity to recyle waste and raise funds for educational projects. Our Cadets Unit has established two yellow recycle bins in the school grounds for staff and students to use, as well as a large 1,100 litre collection bin by the Cadets Shed. Members of the Duncraig SHS Community are welcome to donate their containers at this larger collection point, access via Readsh...aw Road, along the bicycle access road (by English). The gates are open from 6.30am to 9am and 2.45pm to 5pm each week day, donations can be left next to or placed inside the bin. If you prefer to use a separate Refund Point but would still like to to donate to Duncraig SHS Bush Rangers WA, please use Scheme ID - C10243539. It is important that containers are not crushed as the bar codes will need to be read by a machine. Please note that not all containers are being sought. 17.01.2022 Yesterday saw the successful launch of our 2020 Year 11 Breakfast Club, with over 40 students being inducted and receiving their certificates and badges. After a filling breakfast, students had the opportunity to listen to Christian Bien, an alumni of DSHS, who has gone on to graduate from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Finance and is a recipient of the Vice Chancellors List. Christian is also an alumni of Stanford University Inte...rnational Honours Program and a recent Semi-Finalist of the 2020 WA Young Achiever Awards in the Youth Group category. The list of accomplishments goes on, but most importantly Christian is a great role model for our students. 16.01.2022 Mr Lillywhite visited Ms Kamarudin's Year 8 Science class this morning. The lesson objective was to identify the differences between physical and chemical changes and to identify evidence that a chemical change had taken place. Using two practical activities, Mr Lillywhite and our students first used heat and expansion and then a precipitation reaction to try to identify and prove the physical and chemical changes. 10.01.2022 Thank you to all students and staff for helping support Duncraig Senior High School's R U OK? Day. It was a busy day with a bake sale, raffle, sausage sizzle and pong competition. There was also the high stakes staff vs student basketball match, a very close call but somehow the staff won! Thank you to our Year 7 Form Captains for collecting the gold coin donations and to Ms Griffiths and her Year 11 Certificate II Community Services students for running the bake sale and s...ausage sizzle. All monies raised are being donated to headspace Joondalup, a small token of thanks for the wonderful work they do within our local community.
