25.01.2022 It’s Halloween again! The children were very excited to help put together the coming week’s program (4.1.1, 4.1.2,). Thank you to Utkarsh, Morgan, Diivyan, Harry, Tyler, Cyra, Anika, Dominic, Jeffrey, Alex, Marcela, Cherise, Naomi, Casey and Angelica for assisting Educator Alison in planning some great things to do (1.1.1, 1.4.1, 1.4.5). All the crafts and activities were chosen by them. Halloween is a time for children to use their imagination skills through role playing. ...They may take on the role of a hero or a villain. This in turn builds their confidence, self-esteem and improves their spoken and written language skills (5.1.3, 5.2.1,5.3.3). Also, Social and emotional skills are improved through positive interaction with their peers, all while having fun! (1.2.2, 1.2.8, 1.2.9, 1.3.9, 1.4.7) Through time the pagan ritual of Halloween has changed, so we will be learning about its origins and how it has altered to be the celebration it is today, enjoyed by so many all over the world (2.2.1). Although many of the children at Dundas OOSH identify as Australians, their families come from culturally diverse backgrounds. Researching activities for this week allowed children to dive deeper into their familys rich cultural heritage to discover some of the t...raditional games their parents once played (1.3.4, 1.3.6, 4.4.1). For example, Zahara learned that kite fighting was a national pastime of Thailand; Mia shared about games her Mongolian grandparents had taught her; and Jihu was eager to show us how to play Yut Nori, a Korean board game he plays at home. Many of the activity suggestions this week also came from children who were interested in finding out about other cultures (2.1.4). For instance, Eden looked up a Russian card game, Dominic took interest in making some Japanese food and Claire wanted to learn how to play a Pakistani playground game, Oonch Neech. Undoubtedly, the children at Dundas OOSH are looking forward to whats ahead this week as they connect with their home culture and a new way of doing life from other parts of the world (2.2.1, 2.4.7). The original names of traditional Indigenous games have remained unchanged in this program but if youre interested in finding out more about these games, you and your family can visit https://www.sportaus.gov.au//pdf_file/0006/705462/Yulunga_. 05.01.2022 For the coming weeks program Puppet Week, Educator Alison had help from some very enthusiastic children (4.1.1). The crafts, activities and games were all chosen by them (4.1.3, 1.3.1, 1.4.4). For outside play we have the return of popular favourite outdoor games like Newcombe Ball, Fly Sticks and Silent Ball (1.2.1, 1.1.7, 1.3.1, 3.2.6, 3.2.3). Other popular games like Survival Tag and PacMan Tag were creatively modified to relate to the weeks theme (4.1.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.7). ...The children that helped this week were Daniel, Angelica, Cherise, Marcela, Alex, Sienna T, Kane, Dominic, Sophie, Mim, Gabby and Diivyan. Making and playing with puppets will stimulate the childrens imagination as well as encourage creativity. It will help to develop skills like Emotional (through self-expression; 3.2.2, 3.2.1, 4.2.5), Social (appropriate interaction with others; 3.1.7, 3.1.3), Fine Motor (use of hands for puppet play and craft; 3.2.4, 4.2.4) and Language (confidence building in speaking; 5.3.2, 5.3.3, 5.1.3). We even have an Indonesian Shadow puppet craft. Presenting other countries puppet styles to the children is an opportunity to explore the diversity of culture and develop an appreciation for it (2.2.1, 2.2.4). We are all looking forward to a fun filled week! See more

05.01.2022 This week Alex, Cyra and Cameron worked with Educator Ankita to create the activities that will be done in the week. Mother's Day is around the corner and it's time to think of gifts for the special women in your life. This week Alex not only planned the activities but she also made the whole programming with instruction on the laptop with Ankitas little bit assistance. This week will not only have a blast with the crafts and games that use and develop the childrens creativity and imaginations but also their fine motor skills and creativity to craft and create, gross motor skills, problem solving and communication/ social skills to take part in outdoor team games and activities, where they always get the ability to enjoy free play and imaginative play with peers and educators whilst at OOSH.

05.01.2022 This week Alex, Mim, Mia Judd, Jordon, Utkarsh, Oliver, Nicholas R., Olivia, Stella, Cherie worked with Educator Evelyn to create a program based around Easter activities. The children had some wonderful craft ideas to contribute such as cute rabbit and chick crafts using materials like paint, pipe cleaners and tissue paper. Activities like origami allow children to develop fine motor skills, creativity, as well as persistence when facing difficult challenges (1.2.9, 3.2.4, 4...,1,2). For our outdoor activities, children suggested some of their favourite games such as helicopter and Newcomb ball. These types of games promote physical play that develops gross motor skills, and teamwork and communication that are necessary for life (1.2.5, 3.2.3, 5.1.4). Thanks for your help in putting together another great program! See more

04.01.2022 We would like to thank everyone who has been contributing to our Every Little Bit Helps red charity bin. We have had such a wonderful response lately and now our bin is almost full and ready to be delivered to the charity to be distributed to refuges and people less fortunate. Your donations have been greatly appreciated. Thank you. We will still be collecting for the rest of the year so if you have any makeup samples or hotel cosmetics you can still bring them in and donate them to this wonderful cause.

04.01.2022 This week Annalise, Mim, Tyler, Cameron, Richie, Alex, Zahara, Dominic, Stella, Utkarsh, Sophie and Harry worked with Educator Evelyn to create the program for Movie Week. Children at Dundas OOSH voted to have a relaxing movie-themed week to end Term 2 with many sharing about their favourite movies which included Harry Potter (Annalise), Shrek 3 (Mim), Scooby Doo (Stella) and Garfield (Harry) (1.2.1). Through online research or using their own imagination, these children thou...ght up the indoor and outdoor activities that have children developing their gross motor skills (Frozen tag, sock wrestling); skills in manipulating objects (noodle hockey); skills in the kitchen (Matildas mud cake); creativity (Kakamoras); and many more (1.2.5, 1.2.9, 3.1.6, 3.2.3, 3.2.4, 4.1.1, 4.1.3, 4.4.1, 5.2.2, 5.3.5). Were looking forward to the exciting week ahead! See more

02.01.2022 Summer seems to have arrived early this year. Cyra, Sienna.B, April, Jack, Naomi, Eunice, Jordon, Nash, Kane and Sophie worked collaboratively with our educator Pratima to give some cool ideas based on their interest and understanding of the summer. They have shared some craft and games ideas that they would like to see take place. These activities will not only promote skill development across art and physical play, working on their fine motor manipulation, gross motor skills and creative thoughts and expression (3.2.3, 3.2.4, 5.3.3), but it will also promote interactions with their peers and educators. The children can share their experiences and knowledge about summer to connect with one another (1.1.1, 1.1.6).

02.01.2022 This weeks program promises to be so much fun, to be sure, to be sure! In our program this week, we will be educating children about diversity and inclusion through fun crafts, activities and games the children have chosen (1.3.3, 1.3.4, 1.3.6, 2.2.1). Children will learn a little about Irish ...culture and the celebration of St Patricks Day. Harmony Week is an opportunity to encourage everyone to experience, explore & appreciate the wealth of culture and ethnic diversity in our community. It also helps support the removal of barriers that may still exist. We all belong is the message we would like to communicate to all (1.1.3, 1.2.2, 1.3.1). The program offers other benefits like developing Fine Motor, Gross Motor, Creative, Social, Emotional, Language and Cognitive skills throughout the variety of activities put forward to the children. Most importantly the program is chosen for their enjoyment and entertainment as well. See more

02.01.2022 Because the children have been enjoying playing outdoors lately, for the coming weeks program we will be taking advantage of the warmer weather and bringing the inside activities outside. Not only will we be playing lots of the childrens favourite outside games outdoors, we will be doing some of our craft and other activities outside as well (1.1.3, 1.1.7, 2.4.1, 2.4.3, 2.4.5). The children involved in the coming weeks program called Spring Week were Alex, Marcela, Eden, ...Diivyan, Casey, Tyler, Mim, Naomi, Claire, Nash, Harry, Isla, Angelica and Emily. The crafts, activities and games were all chosen by the children (4.1.3, 1.3.1, 1.4.4, 2.1.1, 3.2.1, 3.1.10). The Fine Motor activities will be encouraging relaxation, creativity, visual spatial awareness and sharpening of the mind as well as developing finger muscles needed for performing everyday tasks and writing (3.2.4, 3.1.6, 4.1.2, 4.1.1, 5.1.3, 5.3.3). The Gross Motor activities will be encouraging confidence, leadership, focus, concentration, self-regulation of behaviour, fairness and cooperation with others as well as developing larger muscles and promoting a healthy lifestyle (3.2.3, 3.2.6, 3.1.7, 3.1.3, 2.3.4, 3.1.1). We are really looking forward to happy, warm fun filled days! See more

02.01.2022 Sienna T., Jeffrey, Morgan, Casey, Annalise, Tyler, Shuvana, Mim, Eden, Diivyan and Cherise assisted educator Evelyn in creating the program for Drawing Week. The purpose of the coming week is to develop childrens imaginations and creativity (4.1.1). After gathering childrens suggestions, educator Evelyn noticed they largely focused on a particular theme or subject. For example, Shuvana wanted to draw bananas, Annalise wanted to draw red pandas, Tyler wanted to draw reptile...s, Morgan wanted to draw stags and Casey wanted to draw foxes (1.2.1). Therefore, the program has been supplemented with daily drawing challenges that encourage children to truly exercise their ability to think outside of their artistic box and engage their creative minds in less common experiences (1.2.3, 1.2.9, 1.2.10, 4.1.5. For instance, children can work cooperatively to create musical chairs-style drawings and design their own board games. Besides enhancing their creativity and fine motor skills, it is our hope that participating in these activities will also improve childrens self-confidence as they take up new challenges and risks (1.2.7, 3.1.1, 3.1.5, 3.1.6, 3.2.3, 5.3.3). If youre unfamiliar with some of the activities listed, why not ask your child about it during drawing week? See more

01.01.2022 This coming week’s program is based on recycling and its importance. The program will be raising awareness of the need to be sustainable and conserve our precious natural resources (2.1.4, 2.4.1, 2.4.3, 2.4.5, 2.4.6). Our craft ideas have been picked by the children and we will be using everyday recycled products to create these fantastic projects (1.3.1, 1.1.3, 1.1.6). By finding other uses for the things we discard we will be encouraging children to think first about our pl...anet and the affects that mankind has on it (2.4.4). Those that took part in the program planning for this week with Educator Alison were Cameron, Aiden, Benji, Andy, Denzel, Sienna B., Cyra, Tyler, Harry, Cherie, Callan, Panav, Elle, Sade and Sienna T. We will also be learning about the things that can be recycled and what we do with the other items that can’t be. As well as learning through craft, the children will be improving their fine motor & creative skills and developing respect and empathy for the environment (3.2.4, 2.4.1). Outside the children will be using opportunities to enjoy the warmer weather and play some of their favourite games with their friends (3.1.3, 3.1.1, 3.1.2). The games they have chosen will not only improve their gross motor skills, but social and emotional skills through co-operative play too (3.2.3, 3.1.7). On Wednesday we will be learning about the significance of Remembrance Day. We will be paying our respects to those that gave up their lives during war, by creating poppy arrangements & holding a small ceremony to commemorate their passing (1.4.5, 1.4.6, 1.4.7, 2.2.1).
