22.01.2022 What a hectic few days everyone in Milne, Dundee Downs and Dundee Forest have had. Wild fires out of control and destroying property and bush. Here at Dundee Forest Retreat, we coped the full force of one of the many fires fronts in the area. Our little piece of paradise is totally burnt, but our assets are fine. The bush will recover quickly as it has done for millions of years. I'm extremely thankfully for our property fire plan we had in place and to Kylie & Cam for dropp...ing everything they were doing in Darwin to rush out and help. The 4 of us protected our assets on our own & I will be forever thankful to you both. With Cams knowledge of forest fires south, his instructions were clear and understandable. As this was our first big fire, it was great to have an experienced person fighting with us. Our fur babies came home when the winds got wild and the smoke got thick, before the fire hit us. I was able to lock them inside so if we needed to leave, we could quickly grab them too. . Sometimes the smoke was that thick you couldn't see your hand in front of you when stretched out. The heat was terrible and my hair has been burnt ( oh well, that will grow back too. Lol). It all happened SO QUICKLY. We managed to stop the front that hit us, but some small fires started behind us and burnt the rest of the property throughout the night. . When the rain comes, the block will transform and this week will be forgotten until next year. There's always ways to improve your fire plan.. which we will be implementing.. Thanks to the van guests for listening to our advice and packing up AND relocating to a safer place for 24 hours. And thanks for all coming back when the fire passed. A few well earned cool drinks have been had here at Dundee Forest Retreat. ( Which is very black at the moment.lol) Cheers D&T See more

14.01.2022 I have spent a lot of time in the Top End but there someone else who has spent a lot more...Salt Water Crocodiles have been here for millions of years and that’...s because there very existence relies on animals such as ourselves to be complacent and comfortable in THEIR environment (Yes that’s right we are on the menu believe it). It doesn’t matter how clear the water is, it doesn’t matter if it’s 1 meter deep, it doesn’t matter that last year at the same spot you swam and everything was Ok, what does matter is when he pops up in front of you. Unfortunately there are not always Croc signs around...best bet is be wise and stay out of there reach #becrocwise
