23.01.2022 Council has submitted 30 grant applications for projects valued at more than $4.2M since February 2020, and has contributed $165,965 to projects for which grant funding has been applied for. This does not include specific road and bridge applications made since July 2019, which totals in excess of $29M, with council contributions of $1.938M. Council relies on grant funding for the construction, repair and upgrade of infrastructure assets, as well as the provision of communit...y programs and facilities. Unfortunately, there are a number of limitations with grant funding requirements including; financial contributions council is required to match, time frames for projects and submissions, council’s ability to apply directly for a grant vs requiring a community-based application, community consultation and the sustainability or viability of the grant. In addition, council works with local organisations securing funding for development of their organisations, with considerable time also provided to community organisations for the promotion of grants, application preparation and support, assistance with grant acquittals, letters of support and ongoing guidance with the implementation of successful grants.

23.01.2022 The Development Application (DA) required to allow camping at Dungog Showground is currently on public exhibition until 7 December 2020. This follows adoption of an updated Plan of Management for Dungog Showground earlier this year and official advice from Crown Lands regarding the approval of this Plan. The Plan details a vision for the Showground and outlines future permitted uses and activities including camping maintenance, allocations and fees, as well as proposals f...or future development and improvements, and emerging opportunities. Council previously underwent broad community consultation, seeking comment and feedback from user groups and the broader community, on the management of this important sporting, entertainment and recreational asset. In addition to the DA being publicly exhibited, council is also working on QR registration codes, a contact-free online booking system and signage for Showground visitors. Bookings can also be made in person at the Dungog Visitor Information Centre - Visit Dungog. The DA is on exhibition on council's website: https://bit.ly/37yYMEX

20.01.2022 Hip, hip, hooray: council has endorsed $40,000 in funding recommendations for the Community Small Grants Program 2020/2021. The program is an initiative of Dungog Shire Council and @OurHunterWater, with $25,000 provided by council and $15,000 provided by HWC for the 20/21 period. 26 eligible applications were received across the three categories of:... 1. Small Equipment 2. Community Development 3. Love Water (funded by Hunter Water) This year, applications exceeded funds available. The application form provided an option for partial funding, with those organisations acknowledging this option allowing the panel to distribute funds across the majority of projects submitted. All applicants will be notified and distribution of funding for successful applications will occur during December.

20.01.2022 We're excited to advise that the Dungog Showground Lighting Upgrade is nearing completion. The new LED lighting has been designed in accordance with Australian Standards and will improve lighting to the arena to local competition standard, while reducing energy consumption costs for user groups. Residents and users will notice that the new poles are higher (by approximately eight metres) than the previous timber poles. ... The added height allows for the lights to be focused down toward the showground arena, in turn reducing light spillage towards neighbouring properties. This project has been a priority for the Dungog Showground Committee and all users of the showground for many years, and we thank all parties for the collaborative partnership that has achieved this positive community outcome. This project has been funded through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Community Fund, Regional Growth Environment & Tourism Fund, Dungog Showground & Recreational Reserve 355 Committee, Showground User Groups and Dungog Shire Council.

13.01.2022 Council has endorsed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the @hunterjointorganisation and all Hunter councils (including @centralcoastcouncil), as a Statement of Intent to prioritise the procurement of recycled content products and Circular Economy services in council procurement. Developing the procurement component of a circular economy helps create markets for recycled content products in the Hunter and Central Coast regions. Over time, this will le...ad to economies of scale to benefit the entire community, local industry innovation and job creation. Working collaboratively to progress the intent of the MoU will mean that: - Councils that already do so, such as Dungog Shire, will continue procuring recycled content products and look to increase quantities where cost and quality requirements are met; and - Councils yet to procure these products can consider buying them where cost and quality requirements are met by utilising the knowledge hub to be created through the Circular Economy Procurement Project.

The new 60.7-metre-long structure is being built to meet current Australian Standards and accommodate Higher Mass Limit traffic loads, which will improve access for farmers and other industry vehicles. The new design also better aligns to the road approach super-elevations, providing a significantly improved transition from the ...road onto the bridge and a better experience for motorists. Weather permitting, the new bridge and associated approach works are scheduled for completion in late March/early April 2021. The old timber bridge will also be removed as part of the works, with the majority of the structure being recycled. This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Program and the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Roads Program.

07.01.2022 Here's a little Friday fact for you. According to the WWF, on average, Aussies use 130kg of plastic per person each year... and only 9% of this is recycled. More frightening still - up to 130,000 tonnes of plastic will find its way into our waterways and the ocean.... Next time you're feeling a little parched, why not grab your reusable bottle and stop by our Water Refill Station for a quick sip? It's located outside the Dungog Visitor Information Centre on the corner of Dowling and Brown Streets. An awesome initiative from us here at council and Single Use Plastic Free Dungog. 07.01.2022 Great news! The Return and Earn Kiosk at Clarence Town Road has had 698,645 containers returned since it was commissioned in May 2020. This equates to 50 tonnes of recyclable material, or if this material was landfilled, 52 cubic metres of waste (732 full 240-litre bins). Recycling of this material will save 1,138 kilolitres of water - equivalent to more than 0.41 Olympic swimming pools - and 124 tonnes of Co2, which equates to taking 30 cars off the road.... These figures* will soon appear in a NSW EPA publication to celebrate National Recycling Week and highlights the positive environmental impact of this asset. [*Figures are based on the average weight of a container, and calculations are formed using the Recyculator App published by the NSW EPA. The period of calculation is May - September 2020.] See more
