23.01.2022 A perfect day to check out tracks. Our 4 man crew went for a little stroll this morning to familiarise our selves with the walking tracks around Mt Sturgeon. Along the way we were geo tagging areas, and using the Emergency+ app for lat and long positioning. While I’m on that subject. If your following us on face book, and you haven’t downloaded the Emergency + app yet may l suggest you do so.... This app cost nothing to download but it may save your life or others. So if you haven’t got it then do yourself a favour, and get it. By using this app, if you have to ring 000 or any emergency service all you have to do is give them your position(latitude and longitude) and they can pinpoint your exact location. It’s that easy. All this and more you can learn from SES training officers who can provide information and instruction on SAR techniques, and this is just one of many tools use by SES crews in the field. On the 19th/02 at 7:30pm at the Emergency Services complex in Dunkeld we will be conducting a recruitment drive and community information session for all interested people to come along. So if you are interested in giving back to your community then please joins us on the 19th and bring along a friend or two. Till then stay safe. Regards Dunkeld SES See more

21.01.2022 Good morning Dunkeld. Just an update to our community. DUNKELD SES crews are currently following all covid19 protocols as directed by the Chief Health Officer. We are as always, attending all incidents and call outs as they come in and taking all necessary safety precautions during this period. The unit is observing all safety and social distancing regulations, while at the unit, maintaining hygiene of all work spaces and personal hygiene requirements.... What does that mean for the Dunkeld community? It means that we maintained a response crew for RCR, SAR, and Storm etc, that are fit for task and in good health. As a result of these precautionary measures, as a unit we are observing all safety protocols so that we keep ourselves safe, those we are assisting, and the general public. It means also that if called to assisting another Emergency Service Agency whether it’s AV, VicPol, CFA, or other SES crews that they also have the confidence to know, that we as a unit are observing all hygiene and safety regulations as required. Most importantly, Dunkeld SES crews are here to support our community in anyway we can during this unprecedented situation and know that your safety and the safety of others is of paramount importance to us. As always for any emergencies please ring 000 or for Flood, Storm, Earthquakes, Landslide, Tsunami, call SES 132500 Stay safe everyone. Regards Dunkeld SES See more

16.01.2022 Thanks to the Zoo keepers at the Halls Gap Zoo for getting behind Wear Orange Wednesday. Just for fun, see if you can list all the orange objects used in these photos. These guys really nailed the spirit of WOW day. Watch out for next years post, hopefully we can be a bit closer together. Stay safe.... Regards Dunkeld SES See more

15.01.2022 The Dunkeld SES unit has been involved with a couple of rescues lately, an assist Police for a carry out at Burrough huts, and an assist Ambulance with another carry out from Mt Abrupt. The Dunkeld SAR team are also currently involved in mapping and reconnaissance training of the 4 major mountain tracks around Dunkeld. Mt Sturgeon, The Picinini, Mt Abrupt, and Cassidy’s Gap. The purpose of this initiative is to identify areas of the Grampians tracks that are accessible for eq...uipment to be carried up, the state of the walking tracks, the ability to map out the areas that are difficult to traverse, also to assess the options for helicopters to land or to winch out injured parties and the practical application of being able to geo tag specific points to assist with SAR operations. If any of this is of interested to you, Dunkeld SES is having its first community engagement for 2020 on February 19th at 7:30pm at the emergency services complex. This is a perfect opportunity for those interested in search and rescue to come along and join as volunteers. Over the coming couple of weeks leading up to the 19th you are going to here from a number of the Dunkeld unit members via Facebook post, as they tell you their story about why they have made the commitment to join SES and serve their community, so stay tuned for these. As always stay safe. Regards Dunkeld SES See more

14.01.2022 To all the VICSES volunteers across the state the Keepers at the Halls Gap Zoo would like to say a big thankyou for keeping our communities safe. 14.01.2022 Since our last recruitment drive, Dunkeld SES have been busy training most Wednesday nights to keep our skills up in RCR and SAR. Dunkeld also was one of the host venues for our recent land search course in which participants were assessed in land search techniques and knowledge. As you can see from these photos it was everyone on hands and knees to look for evidence in a forensic search, while others where proceeding with a line search looking for a missing person. Dunkeld a...nd Hamilton Units where call out to attend an accident last Thursday just out of Dunkeld. Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved in the accident, their families and friends, God bless you all and keep you safe. Dunkeld SES training on Wednesday night took us out for a night exercise, to look for a young child lost in thick scrub. A very successful evening with Jenny leading her crew to find the young missing person. Well done to all. Cheers and stay safe. Regards Dunkeld SES. See more

07.01.2022 Another good opportunity to roll out some more training getting to know the tracks around the southern end of the Grampians. The up side to this is the amazing views the down side, well there really isn’t any. You train to assist and help people, much like the CFA train to protect homes and property, or the Ambos who are trained to save lives or the Police who train to serve, protect, and preserve life. When SES are called to attend any incident, whether it’s to assist VicPol..., Ambulance, or to support our fire fighters, our public and communities can be assured they are amongst the best trained agency’s anywhere, and when called upon to assist they are committed to their task, to assist all people who are in need of help. If you would like to know more about SES, then come along to the Dunkeld Emergency Service Complex on Wednesday the 19th at 7:30pm for our community engagement and recruitment night. If you feel you would like to give back to your community this is your opportunity to contribute, join a fabulous service and learn new skills that could save lives, why not give it a go.... As always stay safe. Regards Dunkeld SES. See more

05.01.2022 Another beautiful day for a hiking recon of Mt Abrupt. Thought it was about time we gave Mt Abrupt some scrutiny in regards to accessibility for the mule and equipment, recognition of where the challenging areas are and geo tagging them, possible areas for a helicopter lift should there be a need for a stretcher lift out, and an over all assessment of the track itself. Certainly a challenging hike up in some areas, a few of these pictures will give you some idea. The steps ar...e going to be the challenge for sure, lots of them and steep ascending.(not great on the knees) But l am told the view from the top is magic. Certainly proves a point, the more we travel these tracks the better prepared we will be for any search or rescue event that may arise. Next week possibly Cassidy’s Gap. Anyway SAR training next Wednesday night, pop in and see the team go through their paces. Cheers and stay safe. Dunkeld SES See more

04.01.2022 A very good evening all. Dunkeld SES had a split training tonight trying to take advantage of using our RCR team and SAR team in away that allows us to be able to multi task if you like. As can be the case, an RCR crew could be deploy to a vehicle accident, while a call could come in for a SAR moments later, so by splitting the training allows both crews to train for that very eventuality. The unit trainers try to input real life scenarios into training which mean we as an RC...R crew or SAR crew have to problem solve to overcome obstacles to achieve our goals. This is not only great character building but it also heightens your skills, your performance, and operational awareness, not to mention working together as an effect and efficient team. If your considering joining our SES crew then this training will be available to you also. If your 18 years and over we would love to speak with you on Wednesday the 19th of February at 7:30pm at the Dunkeld emergency service’s complex. All members of the Dunkeld and district community are welcome to come along, there will be a number of crew members available for you to talk with on the night, so come along and see just what takes place at the Dunkeld SES. Be safe folks. Regards Dunkeld SES. See more

02.01.2022 Some of our SAR team just having a bit of a run through on the Mule. An information night on the mule and some handy safety tips on correct use of the Mule in a few different setup scenarios. A bit of fun working through the scenarios with our Controller Doug and a lot of practical and useful information. Here’s just a few pictures of the track up to Mt Sturgeon. Some of the track is well defined while others areas are clearly undefined at all.... Areas this bad we rely on many hands to assist, so if you think you could help us out and would like to give back a little something to your community, come along to our VICSES Information Session: Dunkeld SES Emergency Complex Wednesday the 19th of February at 7:30pm. We are passionate about our membership representing the diversity in our community (members must be 18+), so if you'd like to know more about joining VICSES, please give it some consideration! Stay safe. Dunkeld SES
