22.01.2022 Don’t Over Water Your Mix - Cement based products have an optimal water ratio which is designed to react the cement and create the correct handling properties for the products. Often, in the field, the water ratio is not measured properly, or it is deliberately exceeded because it is believed this will help the mixing, flow, spreading, final finish, improve the working time in warm weather, and will reduce material consumption. What it really does is upset the physical properties of the material and alters the chemistry. Over-watered materials take longer to dry, are weaker and softer, shrink more, are more likely to separate out and do not perform as expected. They are normally easy to identify in a complaint too, so add in the right water ratio for best results.
