Starting back with Dunning's in the early 1990's, John took pride in representing Dunning's as the local area Manager. John was a highly respected member of the Dunning's team and to all who knew him. John's presence in the business will be missed by all, but definitely not forgotten.... 12.01.2022 ‘SOMEDAYS ARE DIAMONDS; SOME DAYS ARE STONES’ (John Denver) Well yesterday we had a mixture of diamonds and stones. This day’s adventure started when we deci...ded to take a short cut to our next destination. Remember we have said before that for this trip we want to travel on some of the back roads and why not we have a Jayco Outback that can handle it. Anyway we blew a tyre on the Jeep just 30kms short of our destination Marble Bar. This short cut, about 80kms North of Auski Roadhouse was about 60/70kms of sealed road and then 79kms of gravel. So before the diamonds turned to stones we had been driving through some truly awesome country which included a few dry river crossings. Check the photos attached for more info. Let’s set the scene of the blown tyre. We are both tired after absolutely taking our time making this crossing at rather a snail’s pace. No not really just joking. So it’s bloody hot outside and Graeme tells me we have got a flat tyre and that this may take some time. It was time to take action. Unpack everything from the back of Jeep onto the red dirt because we need to get to the jack and spare tyre. But to be honest somebody must have been looking after us . As we stopped and started to unload we could see someone coming the other way because of the dust in the sky. The rumbling we heard was a Dunning fuel tanker doing his rounds to different stations. The driver stopped and said to Graeme with a cheeky grin, Good place to stop is everything OK? Graeme told him that we had blown a tyre and that we were unloading the Jeep to get the spare out and he quickly offered to help. With that casual smile on his face he climbed out of his truck, connected an air hose to his onboard compressor and located the puncture. He found the tyre had a tare within a groove of the tread and despite several attempts to plug it he couldn’t stop the air from escaping. By this time we had gotten to know this ‘Good Samaritan’ as Pat from Darwin. Unfortunately the plugs did not seal the puncture. Pat then without any hesitation decided that we needed the spare wheel fitted. Within no time he had the jack under the Jeep and the spare wheel on. Thank you Pat for being on the same road as us at the right moment. We know you gave us a lot of your valuable time and we delayed you reaching your destination. This whole episode took about an hour without one ounce of ‘hurry up’ from Pat. We can never thank you enough Pat and you were the ‘Diamond’ in our day.
