24.01.2022 Runners Knee . Runners knee is one of the most common sports related injuries we see here at Dunsborough Acupuncture, especially with our professional and semi-professional athlete patients. . Did you know that "Runners Knee" is actually a blanket term used to describe any one of the several conditions that cause pain around or underneath the Patella? There are many contributing factors leading to the development of this injury however the most common is overuse and incr...eased/prolonged loading on the knee joint. . This knee belongs to a semi-professional Soccer player who hasn't been able to finish a game in 8 weeks due to his knee pain. After 1 session of Acupuncture he was able to complete a game with no pain . If you experience knee pain whilst - Running - Walking - Squatting - Kneeling - Sitting down - Standing up or - Ascending/descending stairs . Then Acupuncture could be a viable and effective treatment option for you. Feel free to contact Dunsborough Acupuncture with your questions. See more

16.01.2022 Let’s talk about Acute Pain Anyone whose experienced acute pain knows that’s it’s no fun. It’s often severe, significantly restricts your mobility, impacts your quality of life and it certainly does nothing for your mood. Acute pain (not to be confused with chronic pain) most often arises from one of two causes: ... 1. A sudden event or accident causing tissue trauma and injury (this one we can all understand) or... 2. As a result of overuse which causes accumulative stress on specific parts of our body. This can eventually lead to an acute inflammatory episode in the affected region. This is an RSI (Repetitive strain injury). The latter reason for acute pain has many of my patients perplexed. Often I’ll have someone limp into my office in excruciating pain, unable to walk, sit, stand or even speak at times uttering words to the effect of I don’t understand all I did was bend over to pick something up. I can assure you. It wasn’t the bending forward which caused your pain. It was everything that came before it. The hours of overwork, sport, driving, poor posture, sleeping in contorted positions, lack of exercise, a pro-inflammatory diet... I could go on. My point is we use our body... A lot...and we all have areas of our body we overuse depending on our daily activities. Acupuncture is a phenomenal treatment option for the reduction of pain (acute and chronic). It’s an especially effective option in stage one of the rehabilitation process when your acute pain is severe and the area is angry. It’s also a comfortable treatment at this stage as acupuncture can be administered very gently. Although we can effectively assist you with your acute pain we’d prefer to prevent it from happening in the first place. If you suffer from regular acute episodes of acute pain that’s starting to wear you down come chat to us and we can design a long term pain management program that suits you.

15.01.2022 Let’s talk about Joint Pain Joint pain is something we are all likely to experience in our lifetimes. Although joint pain can arise from many different causes it has a similar impact on everyone. In addition to the burden of pain it can heavily impact our mobility and stop us from using our bodies the way we want to do the things we love. If you’ve ever suffered from joint dysfunction and pain you’ll know that it can take a long time for the body to heal a joint injur...y (in some cases it can take months or years). There are 2 main reasons why joint pain and healing can be annoyingly stubborn: 1. Simply, we need joints to move. This might sound obvious but when you consider their workload you can understand how little rest they actually get. It’s almost impossible to isolate and completely rest many of the joints in our body therefore they suffer from repetitive stress and significant load. 2. Secondly, the structures which make up and stabilise our joints (excluding bones this is connective tissues: Tendons, ligaments, bursa, cartilage, meniscus etc) receive a pretty poor blood supply. Because joints receive inadequate blood when they’re angry and inflamed they aren’t able to heal in a timely manner. Blood = tissue repair. This is a pretty big design flaw if you ask me So what do you do if you have an issue with one or more of your joints? The medical community is quick to offer analgesic medication or a steroid injection. This for many acts as a band-aid at best as it isn’t helping the joint to actually repair and reduce inflammation. I would recommend regular manual treatment, resting the joint where you can, avoiding activities which increase demand on the affected joint and increasing the ingestion of more natural anti-inflammatories like magnesium and fish oil. Joint pathology is one of the most common complaints we see here at Dunsborough Acupuncture. Acupuncture is a phenomenal treatment option for all kinds of joint pain and will help you get back to doing the things you love a lot sooner.

14.01.2022 Stress less. Try Acupuncture.

11.01.2022 Thank you for your support Hi there! Miranda here from Dunsborough Acupuncture I just want to take a moment to extend a big thank you to our community of patients for your patience and understanding during this crazy busy time. We all know the South-West has been particularly hectic for the last 6 months or so and many businesses are struggling to keep up with demand. ... At Dunsborough Acupuncture we have been doing our best to meet the need for treatment within our community. However, unfortunately treatment waitlists have been long and wait times have at times blown out to 5 weeks. In response to this need we have completely reconfigured the schedule to allow for more treatment slots throughout the week. This is aimed at reducing wait times to provide better treatment availability and continuity of care for our patients. We are still dealing with some backlog but I am happy to announce that the new schedule is working well and should be effective at managing patient load. Again I’d love to extend my love and gratitude for the community of patients I treat for your continued support. Please also accept my apologies if recently you’ve had to wait a million years for a treatment, had your appointment rescheduled or been stuck on a waitlist for longer than was ideal. A big thank you to all

09.01.2022 It’s a Baby BOOM For me, the best part about specialising in the Fertility space is when a woman I’ve been working with falls pregnant. It’s very very exciting (I swear I get just as excited as Mum ). Unfortunately not every couple has a straightforward fertility journey. For some starting a family can be an arduous, stressful and incredibly emotional process. ... There are many reasons why falling pregnant may be taking longer than expected and it’s my job to help you identify these reasons and rectify them. Here at Dunsborough Acupuncture there have been plenty of positive pregnancy tests lately and I can’t wait to care for all our Mamma’s throughout their pregnancies.

08.01.2022 PULSE diagnosis What are your pulses saying about you? Did you know that during a Chinese Medicine consultation the practitioner will often spend a moment palpating your radial pulse?... This is because it is one the major traditional diagnostic methods we utilise to assess and monitor your ever changing state of health. Over 30 different pulse qualities have been described in our classical literatures. When feeling your pulses at their three pulse positions (Cun, Guan & Chi) we are assessing for particular variations in your pulses depth, quality and speed. This technique gives the practitioner vital information regarding the health and vitality of your internal organs, systems, Qi, blood and body fluids. When an experienced practitioner takes your pulses we can even pick up on specific symptoms, where pain is located in your body, tell where a woman is in her cycle and even detect early pregnancy. Pulse diagnosis is an incredible technique. It's definitely one of the things that makes Chinese Medicine so magical and at the very least it's an awesome party trick

05.01.2022 It’s WA Mental Health Week This week is WA Mental Health Week and it’s so great to see so many community and government initiatives raising awareness for this important cause. 2020 has been a rough year to say the least and mental emotional imbalances are definitely on the rise. I can surely say in my practice that I’ve seen a spike in patients feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed and depressed at varying states of severity. ... It’s so important that we are regularly checking in with the people we love and seeking help if we need it. Sometimes we go through phases in our lives where everything just seems too much and it’s important to recognise that that’s okay and to care for yourself accordingly. 02.01.2022 Meet Miranda Hi there For those of you who don’t know me my name is Miranda and I am the director and principle practitioner of Dunsborough Acupuncture. I have had the pleasure of caring for the South West community since I relocated to Dunsborough from Brisbane in 2013 and subsequently founded Dunsborough Acupuncture in 2017. ... Anyone who knows me could tell you that Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (CM) is the thing in this world I’m the most passionate about. I was lucky enough to be introduced to CM by my mother as a child and It was love at first sight (or should I say needle ). CM has since been a major part of my life for 20+ years and I can’t ever see myself doing anything else. I graduated with Distinction from Endeavour College of Natural Medicine with a Bachelor of Health Science degree majoring in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2012. I have since been working within a multi modality practice facilitating healing with Acupuncture in the lives of the people I care for. I take my ongoing professional education very seriously by traveling annually either overseas or interstate to learn from the brightest leaders in my field. Currently I operate a general private practice and have extensive experience treating a wide range of ailments. However my specialised areas of clinical focus include Women’s Health / Fertility and Musculoskeletal Medicine / Pain Management. I hope this little bio has helped you get to know me a little better and conveys how much I love the Traditional Chinese Medicine system and practicing Acupuncture. I suppose all you need to know is that I love what I do, I am here to help and that Acupuncture is rock and roll

02.01.2022 Lets talk about taking responsibility Introspection followed by taking ownership and responsibility for how you arrived at the place you’re in is the first step required for positive change. We all go through periods where there are aspects of our health and wellbeing that are suffering and are causing us discomfort. Our symptoms can range from acute to chronic, mild to severe, an inconvenience to life threatening and so on. ... However, when we find ourselves in a place where our quality of life is being disturbed we all have a choice. We can look at the situation in it’s entirety and see the role we played or we can carry on as we have been and hope for the best quite often resulting in little to no change. Health challenges especially those that are chronic in nature can be overwhelming and have a devastating impact on our mental health. Oftentimes just making the decision to do something about your problem is so empowering it allows you to take full ownership and control of the situation. At Dunsborough Acupuncture we love helping you navigate these tricky waters. We help you to see your symptoms triggers and contributing factors whilst administrating treatment that will actively help in their resolution.
