24.01.2022 Yesterday we held our major pre-season training covering turnout procedures, radio comms, practical firefighting and safety awareness, including a burnover drill for everyone. This is to ensure that each volunteer is ready to go as we enter the hot and dry months. We are always looking for new volunteers, so if you are a part of the community and are interested in helping us help you, message us this page. It's fun, worthwhile and often quite an experience to remember.

23.01.2022 New specifications for firefighting hoses.

23.01.2022 A long day for around 40 vollies. Multiple Bush Fire Brigades from the greater Busselton area came to assist us in patrolling the Naturaliste Ridge and putting out any fires in advance of the high winds forecast for tomorrow. We attended 48 fires in the local area on a Total Fire Ban day. Around this time last year, we almost lost the town of Jarrahwood in similar conditions.... A lot were fires still smouldering from ignitions previously, but there were still a few fires lit today from people who had no idea there was a Total Fire Ban. It's not hard to find out, just Google it BEFORE you light up. There are fines for lighting fires on a TFB day. Most people who were just trying to reduce their fuel load were advised of the situation and assisted with extinguishing their burn piles. One of our tasks today was to extinguish a large hollow dead Jarrah tree that would have been a major problem tomorrow. It took 3000L of water and a lot of foam hosed in from the top and the bottom to cool it off. The orange/purple pic is an infrared image from the centre of the trunk facing straight up with the dark spot being the sky. All the crews put a lot of hard yards today and in this case, one of ours ended up getting an unexpected foamvalanche. Nice work Josh. All appliances are now back on Station and ready for whatever tomorrow throws at us.

22.01.2022 This weekend is a good time to do this.

20.01.2022 Tomorrow 10th September is "Are You OK" day. Every day is a good day to ask someone you know how they are going. And especially to LISTEN to their reply. Sometimes they are not ok, and have no one to talk to, but don't want to bother you with their problems. Just asking R U OK can be a lifeline for them, don't ignore it. If they sound not themselves, or even just a little different, let them know that you care about them, and ask if you can help somehow. You may be the only... person that they are able to talk to. Ask your friends, and LISTEN to them. Sometimes, those people are the helpers themselves. A lot of those helpers are reading this right now. Don't ignore your own symptoms. This also applies to YOU. ARE YOU OK? www.ruok.org.au

19.01.2022 The first day of open burning season, and we attend the first escaped burn. If you light a fire, you are responsible for what happens next, so keep an eye on it! This unfortunate landowner lost irreplaceable items and many hundreds of dollars worth of tools and stock in a shed. Luckily it was contained within a small area, and stopped from spreading into the rest of the structure. Remember, YOUR fire, YOUR responsibility.

19.01.2022 Start getting prepared. Tie down your stuff, and MAKE SURE all fires are out by midnight tonight.

19.01.2022 One of our volunteers has a secret superpower.

18.01.2022 It's a nice day for burning off some of the accumulated branch debris from the previous storms, but be aware of where the embers are going. Today's unlucky customer had a tiny spark fall into a hollow branch high up in a redgum, which lit and slowly began to spread through the trunk. It was good practice for us as our off-season can have many weeks without action and we rely on regular training to keep our skills up.

17.01.2022 This is relevant here.

16.01.2022 We will be conducting a hazard reduction burn this afternoon/evening most likely near Martingale road near the Police Station. There will be smoke, flames and flashing lights. Slow down and watch out for volunteer firefighters when driving in the area.

16.01.2022 We remember them today.

16.01.2022 Easter is confirmed! Repeat, Easter is confirmed!

15.01.2022 After our busiest 10 days in our history, with 8 large burnoffs and multiple fire callouts, it was time to attend to the Station and heavy appliances which were no longer looking their best. We had a busy bee this morning and cleaned everything inside and out, restocked all consumables, and caught up with outstanding paperwork. We will be doing the same for our other station and light tankers on Wednesday. The gear is now shiny and clean and fully ready for use at a moment's notice.

14.01.2022 One of the most special days for our local kindy kids(and our vollies) is their visit to the fire station. We are hosting two classes in two days, showing them what we do and why, and explaining what they should do in an emergency. We also show the class around the station and give each little potential firefighter a go on the firehose shooting at the training target. There are big smiles all around. Every. Single. Time.

12.01.2022 Due to the forecast high winds this weekend, we will be conducting patrols of the district to extinguish any remaining fires today. This is the control point at the Dunsborough Playing Fields right now. Do not be alarmed if you see multiple appliances driving around today.

11.01.2022 Busselton VFRS are proud to announce that our very own Captain Warren Day has made the Australian Honours List today, receiving the Australian Fire Service Meda...l (AFSM). Warren's contribution to the Busselton brigade is nothing short of extraordinary. 35 years of active service to the community, and continues to lead our brigade every day of the year. We are sure that Warren will no doubt try keep this one quiet, so if you see him out and about over the next few weeks make sure you congratulate him on a very well deserved medal. See more

11.01.2022 During our weekly training last night, we checked over our appliances, then attended a local residents old burn pile that didn't want to go out. There was no alternative other than tearing it apart and flooding it, so the rakehoes (and crew) got a workout. Following that, we drove out to the Leavers Zone which is under construction this week, to check on the firebreaks, emergency access and the nearest water sources. Dunsborough is expecting 10,000+ Leavers this year, which will be a new record, so the emergency services are getting a temporary upgrade, and will be ready for anything. Remember, if you see smoke or fire, ring 000, not your local fire brigade.

09.01.2022 If you are looking to burn off around your property, this is where to get information prior to lighting up. https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/plannedburning/

07.01.2022 Dunsborough light tanker 2 and Yallingup Coastal 2:4 practicing social distancing at a fire at Mount Duckworth this morning. Corona Virus may have affected the way we respond but it doesn’t stop us from responding!

06.01.2022 Yesterday evening we burnt off a small patch of bush overlooking Dunsborough. There was quite a bit of built up fuel and it was in a potentially difficult location surrounded by homes which would be a problem if it caught fire during summer. The weather was perfect for a nice cool burn, and it is a great opportunity for us to teach our 2 new recruits the various dangers involved in bush fire fighting without anyone actually being at risk. After we had blacked it all out, we returned to the station to wash hoses, refill & replenish trucks, debrief, and have a beverage and a few laughs.

05.01.2022 Due to potentially strong winds this weekend, a fire ban has been invoked as follows.

05.01.2022 Today marks the start of National Volunteer Week, an opportunity to recognise 26,000+ emergency services volunteers who selflessly give their time to help com...munities across WA prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. This years theme is 'Changing Communities. Changing Lives'. This week is all about the positive impact each volunteer emergency service has had on their community, showcasing their talent and dedication in the sky, on land and at sea. How has an emergency services volunteer changed your life or community for the better? #NVW2020

04.01.2022 It's International Lighthouse Day, these really are the most beautiful views of the Cape. Take a lighthouse tour and grab a gourmet sausage in a bun - cooked to perfection by the Dunsborough Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade!

03.01.2022 Sometimes our school visits make more of an impact on kids than we realise.

01.01.2022 A good video that explains why it's important to get away from a dropzone. This is why water bombers try to avoid dropping near firefighters.
