25.01.2022 Busselton City volunteer fire brigades are burning off near Cape Naturaliste Rd between Endicott Loop and Meelup Beach Rd in preparation for the upcoming fire season. There is traffic management in place and smoke across the road at times so expect delays. Please be careful of our volunteers and yourselves while driving through, or avoid/defer your trip if possible. Thank you for your consideration.

24.01.2022 Another day, another mitigation burnoff. This time it is in Meelup Reserve opposite Our Lady of the Cape school on Cape Naturaliste Road. We have most of the fire resources of the city here in order to ensure that it stays a cool burn, while protecting the rare flora and fauna there from a hot burn during summer.... Again, there is traffic management, and a lot of smoke in the area.

20.01.2022 Fire season is approaching, and it's time to start getting prepared. This new show is on the ABC tonight, and in this episode it covers bushfires and fire safety. It's worth your time to give it a watch.

17.01.2022 This weekend is a good time to do this.

16.01.2022 ABC radio Southwest will be doing a live bushfire special broadcast from central Dunsborough tomorrow. We have been asked to provide an appliance and a few vollies, and will be in the Lions Park from 9:30am. If you have the opportunity, listen to ABC radio from 10am till 11am tomorrow.

13.01.2022 Yesterday we held our major pre-season training covering turnout procedures, radio comms, practical firefighting and safety awareness, including a burnover drill for everyone. This is to ensure that each volunteer is ready to go as we enter the hot and dry months. We are always looking for new volunteers, so if you are a part of the community and are interested in helping us help you, message us this page. It's fun, worthwhile and often quite an experience to remember.

13.01.2022 During our weekly training last night, we checked over our appliances, then attended a local residents old burn pile that didn't want to go out. There was no alternative other than tearing it apart and flooding it, so the rakehoes (and crew) got a workout. Following that, we drove out to the Leavers Zone which is under construction this week, to check on the firebreaks, emergency access and the nearest water sources. Dunsborough is expecting 10,000+ Leavers this year, which will be a new record, so the emergency services are getting a temporary upgrade, and will be ready for anything. Remember, if you see smoke or fire, ring 000, not your local fire brigade.

10.01.2022 Vasse, Yallingup Rural and Dunsborough Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades are assisting Parks and Wildlife crews at a hazard reduction burn between Biddle Rd and Yallingup Hall. There is a lot of smoke in the area, and there is a lot of traffic congestion, so if you can take an alternative route, please do so. Commonage Rd is now open after the accident this morning, so that may be quicker.

06.01.2022 As soon as our live radio broadcast had finished this morning, we headed back out to a fire that has been giving us some challenges over the past several weeks. It has been burning underground in peat adjacent to the Dunsborough Lakes area since late September despite many attempts to extinguish it. This time we have set a new brigade record for length of hoselay from the hydrant to the fire. We called in Yallingup Rural brigades Urban Tanker, and Dunsborough FRS Urban Tanker..., as well as all of our own hoses. The total length of all hoses to supply water from the hydrant to the fire was over half a km. We also deployed a relatively new bit of kit called a ground monitor. It is a very large hose "nozzle" that just sprays a lot of water into the fireground. And I mean a LOT! This should have drowned this fire, but we will be keeping an eye on this area over the next few weeks to make sure that it is out.

06.01.2022 After our busiest 10 days in our history, with 8 large burnoffs and multiple fire callouts, it was time to attend to the Station and heavy appliances which were no longer looking their best. We had a busy bee this morning and cleaned everything inside and out, restocked all consumables, and caught up with outstanding paperwork. We will be doing the same for our other station and light tankers on Wednesday. The gear is now shiny and clean and fully ready for use at a moment's notice.

04.01.2022 Even after a week of planned mitigation burns every day, including today, Sunday evening provides an unplanned burn to attend to. 24/7/365

01.01.2022 One of the most special days for our local kindy kids(and our vollies) is their visit to the fire station. We are hosting two classes in two days, showing them what we do and why, and explaining what they should do in an emergency. We also show the class around the station and give each little potential firefighter a go on the firehose shooting at the training target. There are big smiles all around. Every. Single. Time.

01.01.2022 As we are approaching fire season and our busiest month here, this week we have been, and still are, conducting hazard reduction burns around town. Right now we have crews out doing cool burns nearby. Yesterday it was Cape Naturaliste Rd, and we are currently burning off on Commonage Road to help reduce the risk of a hot burn during summer. We also right now have several of our best vollies in Perth at a bushfire conference in order to learn even more about firefighting. If you can help out in any way, please contact us via this page.
