10.01.2022 A STORY ABOUT BEING SCAMMED Yesterday I opened my email and noticed a message about getting thousands of royalty free images of peoples moods and emotions. The charity that I sometimes work for, needs images like this all the time: in newsletters, mail-outs, blogs and articles. Getting images like this can sometimes be a chore and expensive, so I clicked to find out more. A page appeared with all the things you’d expect on a landing page selling image bundles and 10,000 mood ...images for less than $20 seemed too good to be true. I clicked on the buy button, filled out the necessary info and paid through Paypal. After waiting for what seemed a long time I realised that they either were getting inundated with payments and hadn’t yet sent my link to download the images or So I went back to the landing page and FAQ section where I found a link to their support email. I gave them my contact information then said I’d paid but no one has sent me the link I need to download the images. The replier, Jonathan, after not finding any record of the payment asked: What was the URL of the landing page? After I told him the landing page URL he said: you have just been scammed as the real landing page for this offer had an extra ’s’ in the URL. Oops, it sounds like it WAS too good to be true. The scammer had apparently cloned the landing page and was intent on getting the payments without giving anyone anything in return. Jonathan then asked me what was the email address the offer was sent through? I gave him the email info and the name of the person who supposedly directed the email campaign. The name he used ‘Tod Goss’ was that of a famous online marketer and celebrity in the US. Jonathan responded saying: Thanks for all that information I will let the authorities know, and to thank you for your input into catching this person, we’ll give you the images you want for free. The next day Paypal said that I had received a full refund of the payment and Jonathan sent me the link for the downloads. I’m now enjoying being able to use thousands of very suitable royalty free images for the charity marketing, gratis. At first I felt a bit silly falling for a scam but it all turned out OK in the end. Here’s the link to the real Conceptual Pics: http://conceptualpics.com/
