10.01.2022 Given everything happening around us, its fair enough to be unsettled. I never thought I'd be cancelling church services - but here we are... From coronavirus to crashing stock markets and the real threat of job losses theres no shortage of bad news. And we're still catching our breath from the summer fires. At times like this we want something solid. When wealth fails to deliver what we hoped and when sickness and natural disasters close in, we look for something we can... hold onto. Reassuring words from politicians, bankers and supermarket CEOs are necessary. But coronavirus has neatly exposed the fragility of our human structures. All of which makes the promises of Jesus so vital. COVID-19 has not taken Jesus by surprise. In Jesus God with us we have one who walks with us. He knows your fears and your doubts. Its good to remember, Jesus came into the world to free us from fearfear of death and fear of punishment for our rebellion against God. With a forgiving love stronger than death, Jesus promises: Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you restrest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28) To be clear, Jesus doesnt promise youll be spared from coronavirus or that your toilet-paper supplies wont run out. God never promises a pain-free lifenot this side of heaven. Instead, Jesus offers something better rock-solid hope for today and resurrection hope for tomorrow. And by rising from the dead, Jesus proves that his word can be trusted. So if you remember nothing else from this post, make it thisGod loves you. He promises to be near to those who seek him. If youd like someone to pray for you, make a comment below or send a pm. Were in this together. Dougal Michie Senior Minister, Dural Anglican Churches P.S. In the next day or so, we'll be launching Dural Anglican Online... what will become a series of videos bringing church to your lounge room. Keep watching for updates.
