17.01.2022 Pastoral Care Update Dear Parishioners, Last Monday we were glad to have on board three new additional volunteers to help us in cooking preparations and packing the meals. Thanks to Adele Gordon for making a difference. We truly appreciate your time to help with chopping the veggies, dishwashing and cleaning up in the kitchen. We were also blessed to have Fr. James and our Capuchin Postulant Isaac Webb share the load in delivering the meals and bringing God’s love and blessin...g to the elderly. One of the elderly we visited and delivered meals to said with a grateful heart: ‘I really appreciate the food that you and your volunteers cooked for us. Thank you so much for the love and sacrifice you do for all of us. We are so blessed to have you because some don’t have even food, others don’t have Mothers, or don’t have anyone to cook and looked after them but we have you and I want to say to you and your team of volunteers I love you all because tomorrow is not promised. You are truly a gift to this world’. Last Sunday we also celebrated Father’s Day and as a little surprise to all the Father’s that I have known during my weekly Pastoral visitation. We made a little banner and a garland of chocolates as a treat for them to make their day more special. Our Prayers for them are always there but the treat is good to make them smile and feel happy especially during this time of Covid-19 Pandemic. Once again on behalf of the Pastoral Ministry Team and volunteers, I want to say thank you for all who have continually given us donations of food supplies, take away containers and gift cards. With your prayers and support together we can make a huge difference in the lives of so many vulnerable brothers and sisters in our local community and beyond. During the week let us try our best to be mindful of others by asking someone RUOK ? Let us never miss the chance to show that we care for someone. Have a great week to you all. Sr. Salvacion, sfi
17.01.2022 We congratulate the 31 children throughout our parish who have and will receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, starting from September 12. With the strict COVID restrictions in place, it's proven to be a slight challenge fitting everyone in a traditional ceremony. Nevertheless, we've managed the situation under these circumstances. May the blessings of our Lord Jesus be poured onto these children as they deepen their faith, and may they continue to grow by the grace of God as promised when we were baptised in faith.

11.01.2022 Pastoral Care Update. In the midst of uncertainties and challenges of the current Covid19 pandemic crisis, the Lord continually assures us that all shall be well. The generosity of God towards us does not rest on our own merits but on His eternal love for us. We cannot earn God's love it is freely given to us. Due to the pandemic restriction and the Covid-19 safe plan being put in place, adjustments/changes to our Sacramental program this year were necessary. Last Saturday at... the 8am Mass in St Mary's South Brisbane, we started the celebration of the Children's First Holy Communion and throughout the week almost everyday at the 7am Mass a couple of children are booked and I had to stretch my time to be present to give spiritual support to the children and their families on this very special day in their life. While at the same time anxious to be on time for the next ministry to cook and deliver meals. Last Monday I was a little worried that the desserts were running low in supplies. I needed 54 servings and I only had 24 available and had no time to do the shopping. But the mind of God works on a greater and more generous scale than we do. God always works in a mysterious way, he inspired people, touched hearts and performed countless little miracles each day. He knows exactly what we need before we even aske him and guess what happened next? One of my volunteers rostered for the day arrived bringing couple of packets of Cadbury Chocolates and when we repacked them it surprised us all because it was the exact number of serves we needed. Then at other times one morning we had a shortage of take away container and I said to the volunteers we need to ask for donations but suddenly we heard the door knocking and a generous parishioner of St. Francis West End was bringing in a big box of take away containers as her share in the ministry. With joyful hearts we all praise and give thanks to God for the many blessings he has given us. Thanks to all volunteers who tirelessly give, not only their time to help, but also never come each week empty handed that even their Mum at home sends a tray of eggs, some baked yummy cookies dropped them off at the office because they want to share and care for others. Most of us are not asked to do great things but it is in the small ways that we can all make a difference in the lives of so many of our most vulnerable elderly and families experiencing tough times in our community. This week let us set aside a few minutes to spend tine in prayer to listen to God speaking in our hearts of his great love for us and asking Him for the grace to respond by sharing His love and blessings to our brothers and sisters. Have a great week to you all. Sr. Salvacion, sfi

09.01.2022 Blessed Milestone Birthday Sr Salvacion! It's been a very significant week for some in the Parish with Ordination Anniversaries and birthdays. Sr Salvacion, we are extremely blessed to have you in our Parish, thank you for all you do! In this community, we work hard and play hard when the time is right. We often recognise and value the many who contribute to it. Sr Salvacion is a very talented work horse, constantly behind the scenes driving Ministries and making things hap...pen without ever expecting anything in return. She is constantly providing and quite a master at making people feel loved and special. She's often a valuable source of inspiration to many, spend enough time with her and she'll share invaluable knowledge and educate you with the philosophy of life through her own life experiences. No surprises that she was working hard today on her birthday, constantly insisting that no birthday celebration was needed. That didn't go to plan of course. We took a moment to enjoy a simple morning tea, surprised her with a couple of things and surrounded her with our presence. It was great to see her pause for a minute and enjoy the three birthday cakes that appeared today. God Bless and wishing you an abundance of health in the years ahead

06.01.2022 Pastoral Update | 1st Sunday of Advent The First Sunday of Advent is the beginning of a new Liturgical Year. A special time when we get ready for the coming of Jesus. He asked us all to stay awake and keep watch for Him so that we can be ready when he comes. In today’s Gospel Jesus presents us the Parable of the gatekeeper. Jesus offers us this parable to remind us that we are the gatekeepers of his house until his return. What do you think Jesus wants us to see when we loo...k around us? Do we sometimes see people who need our help? People who are lonely, isolated, poor and sick around us? Jesus tells us that we are to stay awake be sensitive and responsive to the loving presence of God within us through our quiet moment in prayer. During the week as the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions continue to ease some of the elderly were so happy and excited for the changes and look forward with hope for a brighter future. Being so grateful for all that we have done to them during their difficult times, so many of them always grab a tight HUGS upon our arrival and on departure from our meal deliveries. Being aware that social distancing still in place and in order not to offend anyone, I always tell them jokes and warned them that if they want a hug it would cost them a hundred bucks hoping that no one would ask me for one. There was one particular Elderly who would only come out of her unit when we come to deliver the meals and she would sit outside watching us until we finished and always wait to have a conversation with us but first she would say please give me a hug dear so I hug her saying remember the cost of this hug? Four times she asked and I said, I would be rich by now for just today you owed me 400 bucks. She replied: I don’t care as long as you gave me a hug I will feel good. A little hug, a chat and a laughter will always mean a lot to people who are lonely and isolated. This week we’re also glad to welcome two new volunteers in our team Martina and Edith both from St. Mary’s Church. Some of our volunteer shared that in helping us in the ministry they found so much joy and healing. They always looked forward to come and learn new things every week and felt happy knowing they are part of the ministry who cares for the most vulnerable in our community. Let us then during this Advent, be mindful of God’s presence, within us and allow him to open our hearts to His grace. Our life can be different if we truly live with watchfulness. We remember the past year with gratitude and we look forward to the future with hope. God Bless and have a great week to you all. Sr.Salvacion, sfi Parish Pastoral Coordinator

02.01.2022 Happy feast day of Saint Padre Pio! Padre Pio, in the world Francesco Forgione, was born in Pietrelcina, in the diocese of Benevento, on 25 May 1887. Having ent...ered as a cleric in the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor on 6 January 1903, he was ordained a priest on 10 August 1910, in the cathedral of Benevento. On 28 July 1916, he came to San Giovanni Rotondo, on the Gargano, where, except for a few brief interruptions, he remained until his death that took place on 23 September 1968. On the morning of Friday 20 September 1918, praying before the crucix in the choir of the old church, he received the gift of the stigmata, that did not heal but bled for half a century. During his life he founded the Prayer Groups and a modern hospital, to which he gave the name The Home for Relief of Suffering. He was beatied by Saint John Paul II on 2 May 1999 and was canonised by him on 16 June 2002. See more
