22.01.2022 Council has been dealing with a zoning matter within Ring Road and the conducting of prohibited activities under the state legislated planning scheme. This matter has been the topic of some Facebook commentary. The land use zoning allows for a range of activities such as cool store and fruit and vegetable storage and distribution business, but prohibits a range of retail activities, including markets, shops, etc. Without a lengthy change of use process through the State Go...vernment, some activities will remain prohibited and are unable to be undertaken from that location. Council notes there are many available buildings throughout our municipality which have the appropriate state sanctioned zoning to undertake such activities. Planning and zoning issues are an Operational matter for Council and do not involve Elected Members.

21.01.2022 RURAL ROAD SAFETY There have been some incidents lately with people walking dogs and exercising along rural roads in the area and some near misses with cars. While it’s important to get out and moving, it’s vital that people follow some simple road rules. You must not walk on the road when there is an available footpath or nature strip.... If walking on the road, you must: Keep as close to the edge of the road as possible; and Walk on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic (right hand side) of the road If walking dogs, keep them on a very short leash whenever there is traffic nearby. Drivers should allow at least 1m distance between someone walking or cycling along the edge of the road if travelling at less than 60km/h and a distance of at least 1.5 metres if travelling faster than 60km/h. Be considerate of other road users and keep your, and other people's safety top of mind.
