24.01.2022 Why are Australians still buying DVDs? The Australian published an article today that showed Australians spent almost a billion dollars on 54 million DVDs last year. Even though the peak of DVD spending was in 2009 (1.5 billion dollars) people are still purchasing DVDs because they 1. last longer than alternatives, 2. they are available earlier than other alternatives, ... 3. they make it easier to find the one you want and 4. you dont have to wait for a download. Have we missed anything?

24.01.2022 Im sorry my dearest, my memories are going. As we grow older, our memories are not what they used to be. We find it harder to remember the details and may forget what happened, sometimes forgetting brilliant little tidbits of our lives. However, we amass collections throughout our lifetimes of little glimpses: VHS tapes of a childrens concert, super 8 film of a wedding, 35mm slides of a trip, audio recordings of a father or grandfathers last thoughts. ... These can be collated onto DVD and Bluray to help us remember what we have seen, what we are and what we were. They can be a way of sharing experiences of when we were young or more able bodied or ways or sharing people who are no longer with us. Those were the days my friend. Lets make sure they never end. (repeated from 2013).

21.01.2022 Your life in a shoebox? A recent survey in the UK identified that 32% of Britons stored their photos and special documents such as a marriage certificate or deed for their house in a shoebox. many of these boxes are then stored in a safe, closet, attic or basement. In Australia, we expect that the same thing happens with many people. The problem with storing is in a shoebox in a safe, attic or basement is that it is not providing a good environment for long term storage. Att...ics are generally hot and sometimes humid. Basements can become damp. In addition, it is an effort to get to the box and look at the photo images and documents so they are never seen. However, it is very simple to have these photos and documents copied and photos improved before storing them on DVD or USB to view them quickly and easily. 19.01.2022 3 Cameras in 1 In 1965 Kodak launched its new cartridge film format "Super 8". Soon after, Fuji launched "Standard 8". Meanwhile "Standard 8" was the dominant player in the market. With no clear direction as to which format would dominate, Elmo launched its TriFilmatic. Whilst almost all film cameras are designed for one format or another, the Elmo TriFilmatic was designed to handle the three competing 8mm film format that existed simultaneously in 1965. This was quite cleve...r and the engineering was quite amazing considering it was 1965. Whilst the old rule of cant be everything to everyone applies, it was a very good trade off with the major downsize being the extra weight required for the extra cartridge containers and the extra film feeding. One interesting point was that this camera had a "F" and "R" switch. The switch allowed the camera motor to run backwards for standard 8 and single 8 film (but not Super 8) to allow double exposures and dissolves. Whilst the "T" in TriFilmatic meant that it could handle all 3 formats, unfortunately, the camera did not work in reverse for Super 8.

16.01.2022 Warning: Solid State Drives not suitable for archiving New studies show that solid state drives may not be suitable for storing your digital audio visual collection. Different grades of solid state media, power surges, heat, moisture have always been an issue with solid state media. Now it appears leaving them unpowered can also mean the demise of the data stored on them.

16.01.2022 This footage demonstrates how DVD Infinity’s high quality processing stacks up against a typical competitor transfer. [Turn on sound and view in full screen] The example shows our standard definition frame to frame transfer including our unique enhancement option, compared to a so called high definition transfer done elsewhere. For comparison purposes the motion looks faster than normal as it was captured frame to frame at 18fps. We can slow it down to normal speed for DVD o...utput if required, or leave it this way as a digital file for editing. Our thanks to one of our customers who gave us permission to use his film and compare it to work they had done elsewhere. #DVDInfinity #cinefilm #super8 #standard8 #9_5mm #16mm

14.01.2022 Do you have old recording on audio cassettes loitering in the back of a drawer or cabinet? Many of us when we were younger recorded our own voices or the voices of our family and friends. Sometimes the owners of these voices are now 35 years older and sadly many of the owners are no longer with us. The recordings were sometimes used to record special events, last words, communications with overseas relatives and friends, singing, etc. Maybe you were in a band when you were yo...unger and have not played music since you graduated? Whatever it was, it was special at the time! Wouldnt you like to hear it again? DVD Infinity is able to recover, transfer and restore your old recordings across at the highest possible quality. The recordings are not doing anything where they are and you cant listen to them as they are without damaging them. Would you like to relive those days? see http://www.audiocassettetocd.com.au

14.01.2022 Rain damage to Audio Visual Memories? With the Sydney storms continuing to rage, now is a time to think about your audio visual memories. Do you have your old home movie film, videos, slides, negatives, photos, audio reels and cassettes stored in the attic, the basement or near a wall where water could get in? Has your house or that or a neighbour, friend or family member had their roof ripped off, the basement flooded or water seepage through a wall? With so much damage and... destruction between Newcastle and Sydney during the current storms, now is the time to make sure your memories are safe. Take the materials from areas where water can get in and storm them, even if temporarily in an area where they will be safe. Remember once lost, the materials will become history. If you have been one of the unfortunate ones, or know of someone who has lost their roof, the basement has flooded or you have suffered some sort of water damage, check your audio visual memories. If they are water logged, get them to us straight away. Eve a week under these conditions can mean loss that would otherwise not occur. Contact us today so that we can do something about it.

12.01.2022 Removal of photo bombs, unwanted people or sights from a photo. Quite often customers ask us can we remove unwanted people or sights from a photo, negative or slide. Sometimes it is an ex that nobody wants to remember; sometimes it is somebody who has photo bombed a special occasion, sometimes, it is a power line that the camera operator did not realise was there. In many instances this is not only possible, it can be done without compromising the image integrity. If you have an instance like this contact us at http://www.dvdinfinity.com.au/photos_to_dvd.htm

12.01.2022 In QLD and north WA, it is Cyclone season. Do you have a plan? If you only had 15 minutes to work out what you could take with you, what would you take? Memories (pictures, videos, films, slides) of their family and the special moments that they shared cannot be replaced if they are damaged. For most people this is what most people think about when they are placed in this position. However, a lot of the time, these could be in the form of large photo albums filling bookshelve...s, slides and movie films tucked away in a box in the least accessible corner of a cupboard, videos scattered around drawers. If you only had 15 minutes, it may be too late. DVD Infinity recover, transfer, restore and help preserve your most precious moments for not just yourself but as a legacy for future generations. We can help you to be ready when disaster strikes. A few years ago, heavy rains and flooding affected NSW central to north coasts. We had a customer who had readied his films to send to us but they were caught in the floods. Fortunately, because he sent them to us straight away we were able to recover the content almost completely. Had he sent them to us, he would have had a set of the films on a disk to take with him when he evacuated his house. What is your disaster plan? If you would like to talk to us, please contact us on 1300 850 383. see also http://www.dvdinfinity.com.au/bushfire_floods_financial_cri

08.01.2022 The fifteenth century slideshow The magic lantern! In the fifteenth century, image projection was born in Italy with the prototype of the magic lantern. The lanterns used a concave mirror to focus the light onto a glass slide. Initially, with the only artificial light source being candle or oil lamp, images were projected through the lanterns as flickering eerie, ghostly images. To view the slideshow, slides were changed carefully as the slides were often quite hot. The la...nterns often looked like a handheld lantern of the time It is interesting to note that this initial design was ported and used in many of the initial motion picture projectors, even those that used electric lamps. DVD Infinity can even transfer your magic lantern slides. See http://www.dvdinfinity.com.au/slides_to_dvd.htm

08.01.2022 Recent Copyright Decisions The Monkey owns the copyright. We recently talked about a case where a monkey took a photograph of itself and the copyright was in dispute. Mr Slater had his camera hijacked by a monkey who took a selfie. Wikimedia placed the images in public domain saying that as the monkey took the photo there was no copyright. Now PETA has stepped in and said that there should be copyright and that the copyright should own the copyright. They intend to take the ...case to court. If they do win, then they could prove that the monkey does indeed own the copyright. However, that may also prove that the monkey has legal capacity and can be sued for damages. If this is the case, Slater may then sue the monkey for the damages from the theft of his camera. Lots of monkey business! The Batmobile is not just an artistic object but real and copyright Recently the courts tested and showed that the Batmobile was copyright. A court ordered Towles who was selling replica Batmobiles needed to pay DC Comics damages.

06.01.2022 4K Bluray player unveiled by Samsung Samsung have taken the lead with 4K video. The company recently showed off the UHD Bluray player at IFA in Germany. This is a major step as it now allows for the payback of 4K video at the quality it was meant to be enjoyed. Download services always compress the video to a much lower standard. Not only that, the company is expecting release price to be at about the $500 mark, making it much more accessible than previous DVD and Blu-ray ent...ry points. This exciting step may mean that it is now time to convert your camera to 4K. Will you be upgrading to 4K or are you happy with what you are shooting on at the moment?

05.01.2022 Celebrating 50 Years of Super 8 Film! Super 8 film was first introduced in May 1965. It made filming home movies accessible to the masses. With great quality and only needing to slot in a cartridge to start shooting (rather than threading the film as had been the case) people shot Super 8 film in great numbers. In fact they still shoot it. DVD Infinity currently carries 4 types of Super 8 film and processes it for those who still wish to shoot it. We even stock Standard 8 fil...m, but I digress. In order to celebrate 50 years of glorious Super 8 and to help our customers recover, transfer, restore and preserve it, we are offering a $50 discount on all Super 8 orders over $1000 for the month of May 2015. In addition, those orders for Super 8 to DVD will receive a bonus extra copy of the DVD. If you have Super 8 that you want transferred get it to us in the month of May. If you know of friends with a collection of old Super 8 films let them know. In order to claim the discount you must let us know that you found the offer here. See http://www.dvdinfinity.com.au/film_restoration.htm

05.01.2022 8K TVs Want a TV with 4 times the resolution of 4K TV and 16 times the resolution of high definition? Next month, Sharp will begin sales of these TVs.... If you have a spare $186,000, you may be able to pick one up. However, with limited availability of 4K titles and even less on 8K it may not be able to do justice to whatever you are watching.

04.01.2022 In honour of Super 8 50 years on Many of the big names in film including Steven Spielberg and Peter Weir shot on Super 8 as kids. In May 1965 it revolutionised the way that home movies were shot. Prior to Super 8, people would shoot on 16mm wide 25ft long film that was thread through a camera by hand. Once you shot one side, you flipped it over in subdued light and shot another 25ft down the other side. Super 8 did away with this. It meant all you had to do was slide a cart...ridge into place. It was easy to use and compared to its predecessors was relatively inexpensive and made home movies available to the masses. It possessed detail or resolution that exceeded consumer video cameras until 2004. Its colour and contrast still exceed that of consumer video cameras. Kodak still produce 2 types of film: b/w reversal and colour negative (50D, 200T and 500T). Agfa produces a grainy colour reversal film that is inserted into Super 8 cartridges by a few companies. Also, a company in Italy is starting up to create colour reversal Super 8 cartridges. Whilst the last Super 8 cameras were made up until about a decade ago in France and Russia, a Danish company has started to produce a Super 8 camera for professionals. All Super 8 film, consumables, processing, restoration and scanning is available at DVD Infinity. See http://www.filmtodvd.com.au
