25.01.2022 2020 RD 3 OPPONENT - MELBOURNE NEW UPLOAD: Rd 9 1998 Despite going into this match as the underdog, the Bombers put in a very solid four-quarter display to come away with a comfortable 38-point victory over the Demons. A sign of things to come maybe???

23.01.2022 2020 RD 10 OPPONENT - GWS GIANTS BEST EVER WIN: Rd 15 2019 Not many different wins to choose from here, and we don't have to go back too far. The Bombers came from nowhere in the last quarter to clinch a nail-biting 6-point win over the Giants in this cracking encounter. Thrown forward in the last quarter, Cale Hooker proved again that he knows how to kick a match winning goal!!! ... 23.01.2022 2020 RD 5 OPPONENT - COLLINGWOOD BEST EVER WIN: Rd 5 2009 This was certainly not a hard one to pick. In the 2009 ANZAC Day clash the Bombers were super competitive all day, thanks largely to Paddy Ryder's breakout ruck performance after David Hille was injured in the opening minutes. But with five minutes to go Essendon had fallen 14 points behind Collingwood. A dribble goal to Jetta, a dead-eye set shot from Dyson and a rushed behind later and there was only a point in it. 23.01.2022 2020 RD 17 OPPONENT - PORT ADELAIDE POWER NEW UPLOAD: Rd 2 1997 A look back at our first ever game against Port Adelaide in their inaugural 1997 season. It was their first home match at Football Park and their captain Gavin Wanganeen debuted against his old side after missing Round 1. Like most expansion teams, the Power were not quite strong enough to beat the more experienced Essendon side.

22.01.2022 2020 RD 6 OPPONENT - NORTH MELBOURNE BEST EVER WIN: Rd 16 2001 No prizes for guessing which one this was going to be. After a blitz from the Kangaroos to start the match the Bombers unbelievably found themselves 69 points down 10 minutes into the 2nd term. Famously, they then went on a blitz of their own to stage the greatest ever comeback in VFL/AFL history to win by 12 points. Who will ever forget this match, one of the absolute greatest ever!!! ... 22.01.2022 2020 RD 5 REVIEW - COLLINGWOOD This was a win to savour! The Bombers were already gone 15 minutes into the game and headed for a 10-goal loss, before they rallied like champions to gain a strong lead and then survived a late fightback from Collingwood to claim bragging rights. It might not have been ANZAC Day, but it was as close as we could get in this crazy 2020 season!

21.01.2022 2020 RD 17 OPPONENT - PORT ADELAIDE POWER BEST EVER WIN: Rd 1 2000 We have a pretty poor overall record against the Power so not a whole lot of wins to choose from here. But who could ever forget the massive 94-point victory we had over them to kick off our Premiership year in 2000, that also served as the opening game for Docklands, Colonial Stadium, the Dome, Marvel...whatever you want to call it. ... But it's hard to go past this one, a high-scoring classic that ended in a narrow six-point victory. Embroiled in controversy during the week for his umpiring comments, James Hird was inspirational on his way to 34 possessions and three goals, including the match-winner with seconds to spare that resulted in his iconic fan... hug! 18.01.2022 2020 RD 5 OPPONENT - COLLINGWOOD NEW UPLOAD: Rd 8 1987 A real blast from the past for this week's new upload. Here we have a comfortable victory over the Pies at Waverley back in 1987. This game saw the debut of dual premiership utility Dean Wallis, check out all that hair!!!

18.01.2022 2020 RD 16 OPPONENT - GEELONG CATS BEST EVER WIN: Rd 15 2011 What a win this was! Coming off a number of poor losses and facing the so far undefeated Cats, the Bombers were gone after Geelong got off to a flier with the first three majors. A big run of goals turned the tables and put the Bombers well clear before the Cats clawed their way back in the final term. Jake Melksham kicked the sealer in the dying minutes and secured one of the most memorable of four-point victories ...for the Dons! 17.01.2022 2020 RD 9 OPPONENT - BRISBANE LIONS NEW UPLOAD: Rd 12 1999 After a tight first half, the Bombers managed to pull away enough from the inaccurate Brisbane Lions to notch up an 18-point victory to sure up their place in the top four. Mark Mercuri, Michael Long and Gary Moorcroft were the stars, but Darren Bewicks long running goal in the third term was surely the highlight of the night (watch from the 6.35 mark)

16.01.2022 2020 RD 9 OPPONENT - BRISBANE LIONS BEST EVER WIN: Rd 17 2006 Having not won a game for sixteen consecutive weeks Essendon fans deserved a victory late in 2006, and they got it in this high-scoring cracker! Scott Lucas was on fire with a then career-high seven goals, while James Hird kicked four, as did Kepler Bradley of all people. Didn't the Bomber fans love it!!! ... 13.01.2022 2020 RD 3 OPPONENT - MELBOURNE BEST EVER WIN: Rd 2 2016 I was highly tempted to have the 2000 Grand Final as our best ever win against the Demons, but decided to go a little left of field. Still reeling from the ASADA sanctions that saw 34 past and present Bombers suspended for unsubstantiated doping violations, Essendon relied on a number of 'top-up' players to complete their 2016 playing list and many in the footy world were convinced they wouldn't win a game all year. In f...act, it only took until Round 2 when the undermanned Bombers pulled off a huge upset against the Demons, proving that NOBODY should ever write us off in any situation! 12.01.2022 2020 RD 4 OPPONENT - CARLTON BEST EVER WIN: 1993 Grand Final Beating the arch rival is always great, but nothing gets better than beating them in a Grand Final! This was the famous year that the Baby Bombers stunned the footy world by claiming a 15th Premiership that nobody though possible. Every time we got any momentum the umps plucked some ridiculous free or 50m out of their you-know-whats and gifted Richmond goals. I haven't been one of these conspiracy theorists who say the AFL's out to get us but Christ I'm starting to come around to that way of thinking!!!

08.01.2022 2020 RD 6 REVIEW - NORTH MELBOURNE Yes it was scrappy, yes it was grinding, and yes if theyd been accurate early the Bombers could have run away with it. But Essendons stint in their Queensland hub still got off to a great start with a 14-point win over North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium. Theyre in the top four with a game in hand!

So in the end I went for the game that featured 'the mark'. The sky scraping effort of Gary Moorcroft over Brad Johnson has become etched in footy folklore. I'm sure it's the best mark ever taken by a Bomber, was it the best mark taken by anyone ever??? ... 03.01.2022 ROUND 14 REVIEW - HAWTHORN How the hell did we win this match yesterday? Played like an absolute train wreck in the first half then stormed home like a bullet train after half time to win from 36 points down. Great performances all round from McGrath, Merrett, Langford and co, but Joe Daniher was the biggest talking point. Will he stay? Will he go?

03.01.2022 2020 RD 8 OPPONENT - ADELAIDE BEST EVER WIN: Prelim Final 1993 I defy anybody to disagree with me on this choice. Seven goals down at half time against the Crows in the penultimate match of 1993, it looked like curtains for the Bombers' season. But a magnificent fightback led by the likes of Michael Long and Darren Bewick saw the Dons claw back the deficit and hit the lead with minutes to go. 02.01.2022 2020 RD 7 OPPONENT - WESTERN BULLDOGS NEW UPLOAD: Rd 6 2000 Yes everyone knows the Bulldogs were the only side to beat the Bombers in 2000 and they wont stop going on about it! But what most people dont remember is in the earlier game that year, the Bombers absolutely spanked the Bulldogs to the tune of 63 points for their sixth win in a row to start the season.

02.01.2022 2020 RD 14 OPPONENT - HAWTHORN HAWKS BEST EVER WIN: 1984 Grand Final Hard to go past this one, after the humiliation of '83 it looked like the Bombers would lose back-to-back Grand Finals when trailing the Hawks by 23 at three quarter time. But an amazing nine goal to two final term flipped the game on its head and delivered Essendon its first flag since 1965, coincidentally kicking the exact same score 14.21.105 as they'd done 19 years earlier. 02.01.2022 2020 RD 8 REVIEW - ADELAIDE Against the bottom of the table Crows, Essendon should probably have won by a lot more than they did. But in this strangest of AFL seasons every win is vital, and the Bombers held on for a heart-stopping three-point victory at Adelaide Oval to rebound well from their previous weeks disappointment.
