24.01.2022 TAX TIP // Logbooks are generally required to be kept for 12 continuous weeks to work out the business use % of a vehicle. Generally, they are only required once every 5 years unless the vehicle use has significantly changed. : Without a log book, the amount that can be claimed as a tax deduction is generally much lower. : Another method is the cents per kilometre but you can only claim a maximum of 5,000km per year at 68cents which is only $3,400 and it usually costs more th...an that to run a vehicle each year. : If you forgot to do a logbook this year, make sure you start the logbook before 30 June to still be eligible. : : : #taxtip #eofy #dunsborough #yallingup #busselton #southwestbusiness #dycci See more

24.01.2022 JobKeeper - New 1 July 2020 employee eligibility test. As you would be aware, the Government has announced a number of amendments to the JobKeeper scheme over the last couple of months. The most pressing of those amendments is the change of the reference date for determining employee eligibility to 1 July 2020. Employees that were not eligible employees based on the original 1 March 2020 reference date, may now be eligible commencing from 3 August 2020. Today is the last day ...to provide a nomination notice to employees who have become eligible employees under the 1 July 2020 eligibility test. A copy of the revised nomination notice is available here: https://www.ato.gov.au//561f35fc-a8aa-46d2-8c76-e334d24baa. For the fortnights commencing on 3 and 17 August 2020, employers have until 31 August 2020 to meet the wage condition for employees now eligible due to the 1 July 2020 reference date. Employees that may now also be eligible include: Full-time or part-time permanent employees who have been employed after 1 March 2020 but by 1 July 2020; Casual employees who did not meet the definition of a long term casual employee by 1 March 2020, but did meet the definition on 1 July 2020 as they had now been employed for 12 months or longer; Employees who were not aged 16 years or older on 1 March 2020, but have had their 16th birthday by 1 July 2020; Employees who were aged 16 or 17 years on 1 March 2020 but did not meet the living independently or not undertaking full-time study requirement, but either did meet that requirement or have had their 18th birthday by 1 July 2020; and Employees who did not meet the residency requirement on 1 March 2020, but did meet it on 1 July 2020. There are also amendments that deal with employees that have changed employers between 1 March 2020 and 1 July 2020. They are able to re-nominate as an eligible employee of their new employer if certain criteria are met. If you are struggling to understand the new requirements, do reach out to us (email us at [email protected] and one of our experts will be in touch). #jobkeeper #dunsborough #yallingup #stimulus

20.01.2022 TAX TIP // Time your asset sales. If you hold an asset for longer than 12 months, you get to discount the capital gain by 50% (thats half the profit on the sale). It may be worth holding out till after the 12 months has passed before selling. : You may also have capital losses to offset the gain against and the timing of those losses and gains can significantly affect the amount of tax you pay. : Finally, the timing of a capital gain should be considered in light of your cur...rent year taxable income versus what you forecast next years taxable income to be. For example, your income may be low this year so adding a capital gain this year may put you in a lower tax bracket overral. : In some cases, the capital gain can be reduced by a further 50% so you only include 25% of the gain but conditions apply. : Assets include: investment properties, shares, businesses, crypto, collectables, artwork etc. : : : #taxtip #eofy #dycci #dunsborough #yallingup #busselton #assets See more

19.01.2022 Changes are afoot with controlled interstate border coming into play.

19.01.2022 TAX TIP // Artwork purchased before 30 June 2020 and which costs less than $30k can be claimed as a full tax deduction. : The artwork would be used in the business - on display in the office, reception or meeting rooms. Art can stimulate creative thinking. : Art is an excellent investment and can increase in value.... : : : #dycci #taxtip #eofy #dunsborough #busselton #yallingup See more

18.01.2022 TAX TIP // $150k instant asset deduction. The threshold was increased from $30k to $150k effective 12 March 2020 and is available until 31 Dec 2020. Businesses can claim a deduction for each asset purchased and first used or installed ready for use that costs up to $150k.... Considerations: > The asset must be used in the business for income-producing purposes > The asset can be new or second hand > If you borrow to purchase the asset, the asset is still eligible > For vehicles, you will need to have a valid log book and only claim the business use % of the cost > If the business is expected to generate a loss or small profit in the current financial year, the write-off will be of little benefit > Building structural improvements are not eligible Always consider the return on investing in a business asset and only purchase assets you need and which will generate enough income in the future to cover the cost. If you are paying tax at 30%, you are really only saving 30 cents of every $1 you spend on a new asset which means it still costs you 70 cents. : : : #taxtip #eofy #dunsborough #yallingup #busselton #smallbusiness #dycci #southwestbusiness

18.01.2022 TAX TIP // You can only claim a tax deduction for superannuation actually paid before 30 June. : Superannuation for the June quarter is not due till 28 July but if it is paid in July, it can only be claimed as a tax deduction in the following year. : To maximise the tax deduction in this financial year, ensure you pay all superannuation before 30 June.... : Our tip: pay before 22 June so that the amounts are received by the superannuation funds before 30 June. : : : #taxtip #EOFY #DYCCI #Dunsborough #yallingup #busselton #southwestbusiness #smallbusiness See more

02.01.2022 Weve just announced a huge boost that will help thousands of Western Australians access TAFE and training courses with massive cuts to fees and a range of shor...t courses that will be completely free. As the economy recovers, skilled workers across a range of trades and occupations will be in high demand, which means that training will be vital to develop a skilled workforce. Our new $57 million package to support TAFE and training with make sure Western Australians can access the courses and training they need to access jobs in key areas. Last year we slashed fees on 34 WA TAFE courses with our Lower Fees, Local Skills initiative. Today were expanding that to cover another 39 courses - including things like agriculture, construction, plumbing, electrical trades, METRONET, nursing, early childhood education, manufacturing, community services and more. Fees for all these courses will be cut by at least 50%, with some course costs slashed by as much as 72%. From the second semester, the maximum annual fee students will pay is capped at $400 for concession students and youth and $1,200 for non-concession students. Weve also provided $25 million for Free TAFE Short Courses that have been developed alongside industry to engage displaced workers and youth and meet immediate and emerging skill requirements as the economy recovers. The free short courses will provide a launch-pad for students to up-skill for new jobs and provide pathways to full qualifications. The initial list of 15 short courses will be available to around 13,500 Western Australians and includes courses in heavy vehicle training, hospitality, logistics, cyber security, agriculture, civil construction and small business. The free short courses can also be used as a credit towards a full qualification from the expanded Lower Fees, Local Skills initiative.
