23.01.2022 Interesting reading from a recent National Disability Services annual market survey that certainly supports what were hearing across the Tasmanian disability sector. "626 disability service providers [were surveyed] of which 69 percent revealed they had received requests for services they were simply unable to provide. Compared to previous years, service providers are operating at a loss with mergers becoming a growing feature of the sector since the launch of the National D...isability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) signalling low levels of collaboration within the sector." Eight Hour Day, or Labour Day as it is known in other states, celebrates the achievements of workers... and their unions in winning an eight hour working day. Its a pretty special day to us. The fight for the eight hour day was kicked off by stonemasons in Victoria in 1856 but it wasnt until January 1948 that the then Commonwealth Arbitration Court approved a 40 hour working week for all Australians. So, if youre enjoying a break today, thank a union member. It is the union movement that fights every day to improve the living standards of all working people.
