25.01.2022 A fantastic initiative for our first responders... https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au//emergency-service-w/

22.01.2022 Disruption, uncertainty, stress, disconnection...these are commonly observable and discussed issues at the moment. 'When will it end' is a commonly asked question. This article is an interesting short read, well worth it. The end will be due to medical or social reasons but...the virus will likely continue to remain with us. This is why adaptability/adaptation is so important. https://www.nytimes.com//coronavirus-plague-pandemic-histo

22.01.2022 Even though there is so much that is ouside of our control at the moment and the future appears so uncertain, try to be mindful that just being present for someone, listening to them, connecting with them, supporting them, can make a big difference. Even when you share different views about the current situation. Don't make assumptions about what someone is going through. The reality is you just don't know until you talk to them.

21.01.2022 For all parents and carers, During these unprecedented times, Im sure this will be an informative and very useful online event, 'Navigating the Challneges of Parenting in 2020'. Register while you still can. https://lnkd.in/gz3MibD

20.01.2022 Mental Health & Wellbeing Support: In light of the transition to additional COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria, the decision has been made to extend support to those living in a stage 4 lockdown area by enabling access to a further 10 appointments with a psychologist. That means that up to a maximum of 20 sessions are now available for those in need. Refer to the article below and please do not hesitate to contact the practice should you have any queries. https://psychology.org.au//Federal-Government-decision-to-

19.01.2022 For those of you that may have missed an earlier post, below is a link to an interview recently recorded with Beyond Blue, 'The first year after bushfire, why does it feel so hard sometimes'. Although every disaster is different and each community responds in its own way, there are common features of the recovery journey. https://www.beyondblue.org.au//the-first-year-after-bushfi

16.01.2022 Some informative webinars are coming up with disaster recovery expert, Dr Rob Gordon, regarding bushfire recovery. Amidst COVID-19 we must remember the many communities that continue to be affected by the fires that occurred 2019/2020. https://www.vic.gov.au/bushfire-recovery-victoria

15.01.2022 A big thanks to Rural Aid and Clinical Director, Lilian Mariano, who invited me to facilitate a three-part training series ('Understanding All Stages of the Recovery Cycle') to their counselling team. Yesterday we completed webinar two of three and during the session held some great conversation about social capital, community process and the theory of stress. And a big congratulations to all of the Rural Aid team who are working so hard to strengthen relationships by embedding themselves in rural farming communities. https://www.ruralaid.org.au/

13.01.2022 Always so meaningful and enjoyable to work with the Australian Red Cross. Thursday 23 July 2020 12:30PM - David Younger: Bushfire Recovery during COVID-19 - Please join Australian Red Cross Disaster Recovery Advisors and Mentors Australia (DRAMA) for a webinar as we host disaster recovery expert David Younger to talk about personal and community resilience in the face of bushfire recovery and COVID-19. https://www.redcross.org.au//bushfire-recovery-events-and-

12.01.2022 We often give thought to physically preparing for bushfire but what about psychologically/emotionally preparing? Even well formulated bushfire plans can be compromised if the way we respond in a highly stressful situation has not been acounted for. If you or someone in your network would like to know more about emotional preparation for bushfire, tune in to ABC radio 774 tomorrow (Monday) at 2:30 pm as I will be discussing this with Jacinta Parsons. https://www.abc.net.au/radio/melbourne/programs/afternoons/

11.01.2022 The Red Cross has assisted with this fantastic podcast for drought affected communities. Called 'Dry Times', the podcast has weekly episodes and is a show about hope in drought. Rural Australians and experts share stories and advice to help you look after yourself, your family and your community through tough times. See the link below: redcross.org.au/drytimes #mentalhealth #community #drough #support

11.01.2022 Helpful and interesting provisional research findings from Headspace regarding your people during COVID-19. "...The survey results reveal significant discrepancies between how much parents believe their young peoples’ lives are impacted as a result of COVID-19 and what young people are actually saying themselves. This disconnect reminds us that it is important for parents to check in with their young person to understand what’s effecting them in this current environment." https://headspace.org.au//new-research-young-australians-/

10.01.2022 It is very important that with the pandeimc having taken centre stage during 2020, we do not forget about our bushfire affected communities. Although it may seem for those in the general community like this disaster occured an eternity ago, there are those for whom the effects are very much raw and continuing. I am very happy to have collaborated with Beyond Blue on two articles (audio and written) about bushfire recovery and emotional preparedness. See the link below: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/personal-best

08.01.2022 Two wonderful quotes to start your week from the great man himself, Nelson Mandela: 'It always seems impossible unitl it's done' & 'What counts in life is not the mere fact we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead'. And remember, during times like this remaining connected, even when it is without physical contact, is crucial to health and wellbeing.

08.01.2022 This is actually quite a good resource from the WHO re managing health and wellbieng during COVID-19. There are some good suggestions for the general community, for halthcare workers, for staff in health facilities, for older and younger people including children, and for those in isolation. https://www.who.int//cor/mental-health-considerations.pdf

07.01.2022 Looking forward to being involved in this online 'Community Recovery' webinar for the many Australian communities working through some very tough times at the moment. Thanks to the Red Cross for their ongoing asistance and for making events like this available. Pleae feel free to join and/or to cirulate amongs your network. https://www.redcross.org.au//bushfire-recovery-events-and-

06.01.2022 Consider the following in the context of our current circumstances. How will you adapt and how will you support those around you to adapt? Biological Adaptation: ‘Evolutionary adaptation is the adjustment of organisms to their environment in order to improve their chances of survival in that environment.’ Psychological Adaptation: ‘is the process by which humans sustain a balance in their mental & emotional states of being & in their interactions with their social & cultural environments.’

05.01.2022 Last week I re-posted a link to the first of two recent interviews with Beyond Blue. Given the current heatwave conditions throughout much of the country, it seems appropriate that the second interview be mentioned also, 'Preparing the for the First Summer after Bushfire'. The focus in the interview is 'Emtional Preparedness'. Please feel free to circulate with those in community that you think may benefit. https://www.beyondblue.org.au//preparing-for-the-first-sum

05.01.2022 As summer fast approaches, it is important to give thought to bushfire preparedness. But not just physical preparation, psychological/emotional preparation also. If the mind is not prepared for the threat of bushfire, even a comprehensive physical plan may not be able to be enacted effectively. The link below provides an overview of psychological preparartion for bushfire. https://www.psychology.org.au//Psychological-preparation-f

02.01.2022 This is quite a good article and definitely worth reading. We should not assume that transitioning to a 'COVID-19 Normal' will be an easy process for everyone. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52443108
