11.01.2022 The Speech Sounds of English and How they are Made - A Practical Guide. There are 44 (or thereabouts) sounds of spoken English. What are they? How are they made? What are consonants? vowels? diphthongs? What are voice / voiceless pairs? These questions and more will be answered. This event presented by speech pathologist Carol Baker will last from somewhere between 60 - 90 minutes. It will be a practical exploration of the speech sounds of English. It is intended for pare...nts, teachers, ESL speakers, and anyone else curious about speech. There will be time for questions and answers. If you want to help children who are having difficulty pronouncing words help children read with phonics, speak more clearly yourself reduce your accent, study phonetics or if you are just curious about how we form speech sounds, then this might be of interest to you Date: Thursday 18th March 2021 Time: 6pm until about 7 or 7.30pm Venue: Rotary Community Hall, Port Macquarie Cost: $27.46 ($25 + Eventbrite fee)

This instruction is best practice for all children but is crucial for struggling readers and children with dyslexia. Does your school employ explicit systematic phonics instruction in the classroom?
