23.01.2022 When we think of children with learning challenges, we think of difficulty with reading or math, with being organized, with paying attention and staying focused in school. But many students with learning and attention disorders also have social and communication problems. This article is worth a read for parents and teachers of children with learning difficulties.

22.01.2022 Don't let the opinion of others limit your progress. Find out the facts for yourself - when you know more, you can do more. It's only impossible until it's been done. Time is a great teacher - impossible is just an opinion.

18.01.2022 How do you know if your child has a reading difficulty? For many parent's it's sometimes difficult to know what is 'normal' when it comes to learning to read, especially if you're a first time parent. It's not always that obvious. Sometimes your child's teacher may flag this with you or you may simply get a feeling that something's not quite right.... By reading with your child each day you will gain a better insight into their progress and will soon become aware of any difficulties they may be having. Overtime, you'll pick up on the patterns of behaviour that occur when it's time to read as well as any recurring difficulties. A little hint here - your first instinct is usually right. Though as parents, we often dismiss these feelings thinking perhaps we are overreacting. For some kids, learning to read can be very stressful - avoidance behaviours such as outbursts, tantrums and feeling unwell that consistently occur around the time of homework / reading are a sign that something may be going on. If you suspect your child is having learning difficulties, early intervention is always the best. Talk with your child's teacher as your first port of call. Beyond that, your GP will be able to assist with a plan moving forward which usually begins with eye tests and hearing checks and will be your main point of contact for referrals to other specialist services if needed. Be active in your child's learning journey and when in doubt, be sure to reach out.

17.01.2022 Sometimes, all a child needs is a good story, told at their level of understanding to grasp a difficult concept. . It was absolutely a case of ‘when all else fails’ in our household last week when trying to help my daughter understand fractions specifically converting mixed fractions to improper fractions. . We conquered what seemed like a mathematical mountain through the power of story telling, giving her a formula (in the form of a story) that she could walk through in... the same way with each sum. . When a child learns differently we must keep looking for that one special way to break through. Never underestimate the power of storytelling . . . . . #dyscalculia #dyslexia #learningdifficulties #powerofstorytelling #betterfuture #wheretheresawilltheresaway #parenting #newwaystolearn #learningthroughstorytelling #helpingkids See more

09.01.2022 There is but a small window in a child’s early primary school years where the focus is on learning to read. . After the 3rd grade, the focus typically turns to ‘reading to learn’ leaving those with reading difficulties at a much greater risk of falling behind. . The earlier a reading difficulty is picked up and acted upon with effective learning support, the better the outcome for the child.... . . . . . #kidslearning #kidsreading #learningtoread #dyslexickids #readingdifficulties #dyslexia #literacymatters #strugglingreaders #schoolmums See more

09.01.2022 If you’ve ever questioned whether reading a book with your baby or young child makes a difference, this article may give you the incentive to make reading and story telling part of your everyday routine.

09.01.2022 There is a brilliance within each and everyone of us. When it comes to our kids, intelligence is so much more than how well they perform at exam time - although sadly, this is the way it is usually measured and perceived by many in our society. And it has such a big impact on our children, especially those who learn differently and struggle through their school years. . I have walked the learning difficulty path with my children for quite a few years and thankfully I realis...ed early on that their difficulties do not define who they are. I could see there was a brilliance there, in each child. I didn’t need to look very far. I could see it in the way my son played with his LEGO or each time he played sport, I could hear it in the way my daughter could sing or in the way she could draw. I could feel it in every interaction I had with my kids - they were intelligent and had their own areas of brilliance that were not measured on a school report card. When things were tough at school, we focussed on their strengths outside of the classroom - these were the things they were naturally drawn to and loved to do. . School was a big part of their world but it wasn’t the only part. Their identity, who they believed themselves to be, was no longer dependant upon how they measured up in the classroom. . In this world, there are many different types of intelligence - it is up to us, as parents, as teachers of life to help our children discover their own unique qualities and let their brilliance shine through See more

08.01.2022 Reading to a child is so much more than opening a book and telling a story. There’s so much goodness that goes on in every word spoken, every page turned, every problem solved and every feeling felt. Every book expands their world and helps develop their mind

04.01.2022 Time spent reading with your child is always time well spent. Think of it as an investment in their future. Each word, each sentence, each book read helps to build their literacy skills and overtime, this is the very thing that will have the biggest impact on their learning journey

04.01.2022 Just back from an amazing week in Melbourne at the Ausmumpreneur Conference and Awards for 2019. I have met some incredible women who are doing some amazing things in their businesses. Leveler was fortunate to come home with a silver award in the category of Big Idea - Change the World. The Leveler ‘Learn to Read’ system was created to help struggling readers who learn in a different way. Feeling inspired for what’s to come next... lots of work yet to be done (I don’t think... that list ever gets shorter!!) A big thank you to Peace and Katy and the team at AusMumpreneur for putting on this years conference and awards. So much hard work goes on behind the scenes to make an event like this happen. So grateful to be a part of such an amazing network of women . . #ausmum19

02.01.2022 Responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our countries or with those who have been appointed or elected to do a particular job. It lies with each of us individually. Peace for example, starts with each one of us. When we have inner peace, we can be at peace with those around us. ~ Dalai Lama ~ . Be the change

01.01.2022 When the floor is the best working surface for the job! Going back to my artistic roots - drawing up story boards! Just one of the many joys of developing a ‘learn to read’ system for kids who learn differently and those who simply struggle with the reading process
