21.01.2022 Dear Friends, just want to reflect a little on this past year, as we are nearing the close of 2019, with 2020 just around the corner. I am so so grateful for each day I get to walk in, each new person I get the privilege to meet, each new experience that opens my eyes wider to those around me and their circumstances that unfold in their lives and places. I so appreciate that we all have the ab...ility to grow and change for the better, to make this world a better place to live in, one person at a time. I have had the privilege this year to travel to a remote indigenous community twice and offer a screening program to the children there, to Perth and Indonesia for life changing conferences, and host a stall at the Disbility Expo in September here on the coast, again meeting so many courageous people, who have lots to overcome in their lives. I am all the better for all of the amazing people I have met, and am convinced more than ever, that the most important thing in life is our relationships. So, thank you being a part of my life through the Alison Lawson Centre and the work done there to improve reading and learning in the lives of those that have been struggling in this area. I am always encouraged by the tenacity, hard work and team work that leads to these courageous ones' success stories. Thank you so much for not giving up when things get tough!! And aside from that, there is a lot of grim news in the world at the moment, which can rob us of joy, peace and hope. Bushfires, volcanoes erupting, people hurting, long standing wars in the Middle East, political issues, etc. But can I encourage you to know that whatever grim news there is in the world, there is always hope that good things are ahead, even if it seems impossible at the time. Christmas time reminds us of this, as the very root and essence of the Christmas story is one of hope. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and I look forward to what 2020 brings!! Much love to you all xoxo See more

19.01.2022 One of the things that I absolutely love above this work is that I have the privilege of getting to spend time with the most amazing children, youth and parents. Meet Halle.. When she first came to the Alison Lawson Centre Sunshine Coast, her spelling, reading and writing needed some help. The first photo was her writing 'This what I want to be,' before the treatment. Halle has been putting in lots of hard work. She completed the treatment program at the Centre earlier in the... year, and the results are tangible! So much so, she received the Principal's award at her school presentation night just recently. She has improved remarkably and is continuing to improve. The second photo is her spelling after treatment! Onward and upward!! Well done, Halle! There are more great things ahead for you yet!! <3

15.01.2022 Have you seen this short animation yet? It helps to explain what we understand about the eye/brain condition that can lead to certain learning difficulties. Check it out!!! :) Don't forget this treatment is available in Nambour.

10.01.2022 Sleep Deprivation has more effects on the body than we might realise. Professor of neuroscience and psychology, Matthew Walker, in this short video/article, sheds some light on this.

07.01.2022 Many people don't really know anything about Orthoptics. The Alison Lawson Treatment is an Orthoptic treatment developed by Orthoptist Alison Lawson, aimed at restoring visual functioning and visual processing. Many people don't realise that many reading and learning difficulties can be the result of problems with one's visual functioning and processing. Bright children, who struggle to read, remember the spelling of words, have poor concentration and find it hard to get their thoughts down on paper? Could this be the result of a visual processing impairment? Yes it can be! And, as such, can be treated at The Centre. The following is an article with some information on Orthoptics, so you can get a little bit more understanding of this health field.

01.01.2022 We all make mistakes, but do we see that as a valuable part of learning or as something negative? This is an interesting article that looks at our education system and its ways of viewing mistakes.
