23.01.2022 AUSPELD strongly supports evidence informed practice in the teaching of literacy. In order to read well, children need to be taught to read words accurately and... fluently, and they need the knowledge and vocabulary to understand what they read. It is a simple tool which checks student progress in the second half of Year 1. The results of the Phonics Check provide teachers with a useful overview of students individual reading skills and assists teachers to identify students who need additional support. The Phonics Check is available now via a new online portal for teachers, school leaders and families called the Literacy Hub. The Hub includes information on how students learn to read, as well as resources for schools and families to support literacy development. Additional resources will be added over the coming months. Go to https://literacyhub.edu.au/ to find out more.

06.01.2022 The conference committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 DSF Language, Literacy and Learning Conference to 2022. Implications of the global pandemic have made planning this event extremely challenging at this time. Although travel restrictions and social distancing measures may not be in place in March next year, it is impossible for us to forge ahead with so many variables beyond our control. We have secured six amazing keynote speakers for the conferen...ce who have all agreed to present their keynote addresses at the 2022 conference. We are delighted that they are available on the rescheduled dates and cant wait to announce who they are! The new dates for this incredible three-day event are Thursday 31 March to Saturday 2 April 2022. We are looking forward to sharing the details of this unmissable conference as the date gets closer. For now, we encourage you to join the conference mailing list at https://literacylanguageconf.com/ for all the latest news.
