25.01.2022 IMMIGRATION ADVICE CENTRE LONG STAY PARENT VISITOR VISAS Update 24 October 2018 Previous details for these visas advised that there would be two visas available; one for 3 years and another for 5 years. Bothe visas may be extended up to a maximum of 10 years. A child of the parents must sponsor the applications. This can only be done by an Australian PR or citizen, who has lived in Australia for four years.... Record your ongoing interest by notifying us at [email protected]. We will add you to our list and keep you updated from 12 November when the legislation is debated in the Senate. We anticipate a huge demand for these visas and this will inevitably lead to long processing delays. Interested parties should therefor apply as soon as they can to go to the head of the line. 25.01.2022 IMMIGRATION ADVICE CENTRE PARENT VISAS LONG STAY VISITOR OR FULL PR? Update - 25 October 2018 The sponsor for both the visitor visa and PR visas must be an Australian PR or citizen.... The long-stay visitor visas are going to be very expensive. For 10 years, the visa costs for one parent will be $20,000. The health insurance will add around $3,500 per year (payable monthly), totaling $35,000 over the full 10 years. Total costs for two parents over 10 years would be $40,000 plus $70,000, a total of over $110,000! If the sponsor could meet the balance of family test then the Contributing Parent visa (subclass 143) would be a far better option. 143 parent visa is full PR and with full access to Medicare. Total outlay for 2 parents for PR would be around $100,000, including contribution fees and bonds of $14,000, repayable after 10 years. The danger with the long-stay visitor visa is that just one of the parents became ill, they may fail a medical check and then neither parent would be able to gain PR and the ill one would not even be able to visit Australia again. 16.01.2022 WHAT SHOULD I BE STUDYING Before enrolling into any course you should think carefully about what you want for your future. What is your prime objective? Do you want to study something you like and will give you skills to take back home?... Do you hope to qualify for migration to Australia and build a future here? The best outcome would be a combination of both. How can you achieve this? To progress to PR after your studies you need to look carefully at the current skilled occupation list (MLTSSL) and consider what may be there when you finish your studies. Also think about the type of work you would like to follow in the future. This may be in health services (nursing, social welfare), education (pre or secondary school teachers), ICT or engineering. Accounting and Finance and general management courses would likely present problems in achieving your goals. For some time there have been suggestions that Accountants may be removed from the skilled list. Right now the points score required for PR is one of the highest for any occupation.
