13.01.2022 What is the real secret to Core Strength training? I can tell you it is not planks, or any type of abdominal exercise that most people are using all the time. T...he secret really lies in breathing, and learning how to integrate the inner unit stabilizers with outer unit prime mover muscles. The best way to describe this is by thinking of the core as like a bicycle wheel. Think of the rim as the bones or skeletal system. The tyre is your big moving muscles such as the lats, quads, glutes etc and the tube is the inner unit stabilizer muscles such as pelvic floor, TVA etc. Would it be a good idea just to focus on the tube and forget about improving the tyre? No that would be stupid. The tyre and the tube are intimately related. One needs the other to provide smooth and fluent movement. They must integrate and they must do this in a standing position for them to work as they are designed. Sure lying down exercises can be used to target things from time to time but you will never truly develop core stability or strength in this position. And if you do not get the breath right you will also never achieve great core strength. The diaphragm plays such a massive role yet hardly anybody knows what the right breathing to use is. Here is a great article we did some time ago explaining all of this and providing several examples to help you out. http://www.noregretspt.com.au//193-the-best-core-strength- See more

11.01.2022 Yesterday we looked at how important the single leg exercises are for injury prevention and rehab, in particular the single leg squat. I showed how you can use ...this one movement for an assessment of where weakness and instability lies and what regressions you can use to improve it. But what about progressions and taking a simple movement and making it explosive and powerful as in sports performance? This one exercise also is critical for this too. So at one point it works backward to improve loss of function and stability, and at the other extreme it prepares the body for extreme jumping, landing, pivotting and cutting movements used in most ball sports! This flow chart gives you a rough idea of how the single leg squat can progress to much more specific exercises, like plyometrics used in so many sports. To see examples of this in action go to this article http://www.noregretspt.com.au//240-the-best-strength-train See more
