25.01.2022 On Melbourne Cup Day our Older Adults Team in Newcastle held their first face-to-face meeting since earlier this year, and it was lovely to see the many smiling faces and to spend time with such wonderful company. We understand that social connection is a key driver of wellbeing, and so our teams have been committed to keeping clients engaged via online events, telephone and care packages through the pandemic. A massive thank you to all the staff who worked extremely har...d behind the scenes to prepare for the day, allowing the group to meet safely in person. We provide a range of services that support older Australians to stay independent, healthy and active in the community, including in-home care, social groups (currently remotely) and #health services: www.each.com.au/support-older-adults.

13.01.2022 Pulling someone up for sexist or discriminatory behaviour is the first step to creating lasting change towards a society that respects and values women. If somebody you know makes a derogatory comment, disrupt the behaviour to show your disapproval. Try using a statement like - Hey, that’s a strange comment to make. By making a statement you send a message that this behaviour is not okay or acceptable. As more people start calling out these behaviours, everyone will learn t...hat it’s not ok. Spark conversations, encourage change, and work towards a future where women, men and gender diverse people are safe, equal and respected. #16Days16Ways #16DaysCampaign #RespectIs #CallitOut Image description: A large speech bubble of text ‘Hey, that’s a strange comment to make’. Above the bubble are two hashtags and a tagline which read # 16 days 16 ways, # call it out, 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. Below the speech bubble is a text box which reads ‘call out inappropriate comments and behaviour’ and the logos of Women’s Health East, Together For Respect At Home and Respect Women: call it out.

12.01.2022 - ! When we have gone through adversity or a challenge, it can be helpful to reflect on the experience and identify what strengths we used to get through. This important process comes after the crisis when we can step back from it with perspective and look at the experience as a whole. This is important for children as well.... Here we hear from Cooper about how he has reflected on this year and what he has learnt about himself. For more information on this project lead by our Youth & Family Counselling Team, and to check out past video diaries, please visit our website here: https://bit.ly/35gUgve.

10.01.2022 More Christmas fun for our Older Adults Services! While unable to enjoy many face-to-face group events this year, clients of our Killara House Social Activity Group finally got together to celebrate Christmas. A warm day did not deter either the eager staff or clients, with Santa in attendance, greeting everyone and posing in many obligatory selfies! ... The arrival of a beautiful Studebaker caught everyone’s attention and created an opportunity for participants to share their experiences of this old classic and others. Participants also had fun making an ornament out of beads, glue and buttons. Creativity was flowing with participants coming back to the table to make more for loved ones to hang on Christmas trees. The best part was hearing the chatter, laughter and singing amongst a group who have had limited in-person interaction for so many months. Having someone who is living with Dementia or caring for a loved one with Dementia to talk to or to ask advice is helpful after such a challenging year. We're glad to report that everyone left with a smile on their face. We provide a range of services that support older Australians to stay independent, healthy and active in the community, including in-home care, social groups and #health services: www.each.com.au/support-older-adults.

05.01.2022 We welcome the Victorian Government's State Budget announcements and enthusiastically support the focus on the key areas of health, employment, mental health, housing, education and support for families and small businesses that will aid the wellbeing and recovery of the community post-pandemic. EACH, like the rest of the Community Health sector, was hoping for a more evident and direct investment in community health, particularly in this budget cycle. Community Health Servic...es have demonstrated the capacity to bridge the gap between GPs and the hospital sector by providing flexible and targeted responses, meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people within each community; never more evident than in the role we are currently playing in the Victorian COVID response. While we are disappointed not to see this much-needed direct investment in Community Health in this budget, EACH looks to the $200mill Metropolitan Health Infrastructure Fund and the 2021/22 Budget to support the Community Health sector to play the dynamic and increasing role in protecting and improving the health of the community into the future. At EACH, we recognise that health and wellbeing are significantly and negatively affected by factors such as unemployment, homelessness, financial difficulties, social exclusion and addiction. We continue to offer a wide range of health and support services to assist members of our community to lead happier, healthier lives and we stand ready to deliver further initiatives to contribute to the State's post-COVID recovery. Learn more about our services at www.each.com.au.
