25.01.2022 It’s a Thai curry, kombucha and mellow music kind of night. What about you?
24.01.2022 Cereal, dried fruit and leftover veggie head Christmas pudding OR leftover curry and rice? Which would you choose for breakfast? I highly recommend having dinner for breakfast to set you up for the day. You don’t need cereal and milk- that’s marketing that tried to brainwash us: it worked to a certain extent but we’re waking up to it. Yay. 2021- the year we don’t buy into marketing BS and learn what’s right for our body. P.S- Remember that every BODY is different. Some of you might not even want breakfast. Do YOU this year. Listen to your body. It will tell you what it needs (and it’s not always chocolate ha!)
24.01.2022 I don’t cycle to burn off the birthday cake. I cycle because I can. Because I’m so grateful that I have legs that allow me to do this. Because it makes me feel good. Because we were cycling distance to the beach cafe today.... Because I love fresh air. Because I enjoy my husband’s cycle company (when he doesn’t go too fast!) Because it felt good to leave the car at the accommodation. Living in the country we are always driving. So many reasons to get on the bike this morning and none of them to do with cake. Don’t ever guilt yourself with food and exercise.
24.01.2022 Today’s smoothie going into my ebook coming out next month. Today I used lucuma. Lucuma is a Peruvian fruit with a creamy citrus flavour. It’s low GI, high in antioxidants, the same amount of calcium as a glass of cow’s milk as well as some Vitamins B and C, iron, and potassium. You can buy it at your local organic store or even the supermarket!
22.01.2022 Do you know one of the many reasons that I love smoothies? I can pack so many nutrients into one drink. I’m not good with eating a lot of fruit to be honest so this way I get so much goodness in one hit. This recipe will be in my green smoothie ebook coming out next month. Make sure you’re on my newsletter list to get all the details of when it’s released. Details on my website.
21.01.2022 This week is women’s health week. I want to encourage all the women out there to ensure that you’re still going for health check ups: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. They are all important. Please don’t put off your routine checks. Find a GP that you trust and are comfortable with. Reach out to someone like @corefitbybec who is a physio specializing in women’s health. Go for your skin check ups. Find a good psychologist if you need someone to talk to; And if the fi...rst one doesn’t work out keep going until you find somebody who is a match for you. Book yourself in for healing/energy/body work. Get out in nature. Get up earlier than the rest of the house so you can have 5 minutes with a cuppa all alone. These are all such important things for your health. It’s never to late to look after your health. Women who take up a better diet in their fifties reduce their risk of a stroke 20 years later. This risk can fall by as much as 30% (Stroke, 2020; 51: 1381-7) If you have any questions or are on the Sunshine Coast and would like any recommendations for practitioners, please reach out to me. Outfit: @gmaxxactivewear. Love their Australian made top. : My beautiful photographer @elisegowphotography
21.01.2022 I’m back on social media after a break. I was starting to find it exhausting to be honest. So much fighting about what is currently going on in the world. I was losing sight of why I was on here. I took FB off my phone (and it’s still off my phone) and didn’t go on it at all for a few days. Bliss! I have loved the break and now I’m back after setting some boundaries. I’ve written more details over on my personal brand page @melaniejeager with some awesome tips of how to manag...e it and what I learnt. Would love to know what you think. And at the end of the day what matters? Love and kindness. Let’s go back to that!
20.01.2022 Twice a month my heart is filled with the biggest amount of joy when I run the Sunshine Coast Holistic Health Meet Ups. I’m passionate about bringing like minded people together and I love seeing the connections made and the conversations flowing. If you’re on the Sunshine Coast come and join us. It may be nerve wracking coming to your first meeting when you don’t know anyone; I’ve heard people say that they felt this way but as soon as they sat down and started chatting to people they are so glad that they came. Thanks as always to @kimnatcafe for hosting us and providing beautiful food and an awesome space.
19.01.2022 Look what’s back on the breakfast menu! Spring is in the air, although it hasn’t felt like it yesterday and this morning! However my body is craving green smoothies again and more fruit, both of which I don’t consume much of in winter. So.... it’s back to working on that ebook again that I’ve been promising you for a long time. So much taste testing to do!! P.S- I’ve nicknamed this one apple pie!
18.01.2022 DILL! Yep, we grew all this (and so much more!!). High in vitamin C and rich in antioxidants. May also have anti cancer, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties due to the terpenes (naturally occurring plant compounds). I’ve been wondering what to do with it but then had an idea to make dill and lemon balm pesto. Watch this space!
18.01.2022 Celebrating still being on holiday. Apologies, you will have to wait a bit longer until I’m back on board. Lots of changes happening this year, all still in planning. Watch this space..... In other news my husband and I went out for lunch today and paid for it using Qoin, an Australian digital currency. So lunch was basically free because the currency in my wallet goes up most days. The cafe owner said she loved being paid in Qoin because it goes up in value whereas if we had paid her $50 for example, it would still be worth $50 tomorrow. Win! If you’re an Australian business that would love to find out more, send me a message.
18.01.2022 Off on holiday to the beach for a few days for my husband’s birthday. There will definitely be cake (will post photo in stories later) and maybe ice cream too! I’m not going to sell you a spring detox because I believe in eating wholesome, healthy food the majority of the time with ‘treats’ thrown in. Life is about balance. P.S- We’re all different so listen to your body. If it needs a reset (I much prefer that word!) or you feel blah if you eat cake, don’t do it! Do what’s right for YOU. P.P.S-Cone or Cup for ice cream? These come from @peregianpantry and are amazing. Guess which one was mine?! Dairy free but I doubt sugar free!
17.01.2022 One of the many tools in my toolkit for me and my clients. Health isn’t dependent on just ONE thing that you must do.
16.01.2022 Acái bowl and ginger latté for breakfast. As the weather warms up my body is craving more food like this. Winter foods are more warming and heavier. My body can’t cope with acái bowls or smoothies in winter as they cool my body down too much. Always listen to your body. It knows!
16.01.2022 Elderberry syrup and elderberry gummies recipe going out to my newsletter list today. Sign up to receive these recipes- amazing for immune support. Link in comments.
16.01.2022 Welcoming in 2021 with the first sunrise of the year and a beautiful rainbow. I was absolutely soaked taking this photo but dried off soon enough. I hope 2021 is a good year for you. I hope you are healthy and happy and have fun and adventures.
15.01.2022 Someone asked me the other day why I allow my fitness to drop so much in winter; they meant why don’t I exercise as much because when spring hits I have to build it up again. I am so in tune with my body. During winter I want to sleep more and slow down. I stay in bed longer and do more gentle exercise: walking, yoga, stretches etc. I don’t climb my local mountain as much or do much high intensity workouts. I joke that I become a bear and go into hibernation. Geez this year I... even put on corona kilos (hello 40+ year hormones too!!) I know more than anyone what my body wants and how it feels. I urge you all to tap into this as much as possible. Once we truly get in touch with our body, magic can happen because we give it what it requires. Now it’s getting warmer I’m up early again and increasing my exercise and my body feels great. Today I went for a run on the beach followed by some body strength exercises (push ups, seated dips, step ups etc) And please don’t forget every BODY is different. There will be some of you out there that hate summer and want to slow down at this time of year. I love the fact that we’re all different. Lean into that and enjoy what’s right for you and your body.
12.01.2022 The secret to eating healthy? Being organised. When you’re making dinner and the oven is on, roast some veggies. Make some wraps. Throw together some bliss balls. Stop wasting your time scrolling! My husband works in an office and we won’t use microwaves so he takes other things to work such as wraps and salads; or he reheats food before he goes to work. Easy as!
11.01.2022 I’ve been busy today working on the green smoothie ebook. I’ve made a commitment with my business coach to have the book ready in the next few weeks so watch this space! In the meantime did you know that on my website you can download 3 of my favourite green smoothie recipes including the one that converts everyone!! Or perhaps you’d like my guide on how to make the perfect green smoothie? Head on over to my website, go to freebies and choose what you’d like!
11.01.2022 IT TAKES 400 YEARS FOR PLASTIC TO BREAK DOWN. Did you know that? AND..... ... WE CONSUME A CREDIT CARD SIZE OF PLASTIC EVERY SINGLE YEAR. These are some of the things I learnt today in the sustainability and conscious living workshop. There was so much value given to us about what we can do to change the way we live. You can still catch the replay so message me for details. Day 2 tomorrow talks about how to reduce toxic chemicals in our home. YES! This is my jam. If you’d like to join this free 4 day workshop (with replays available anytime) let me know P.S- Mount Pomona you were stunning but brutal this morning. That humidity
10.01.2022 I’m really conscious what I put IN and ON my body which is why I watched in amazement the other week at the entrance to a local market with everyone putting ‘this’ on their hands. What is it anyway? No label. No ingredients list. No warnings.... Let’s just assume for a moment that this is hand sanitiser and people want to use it because they are currently living in fear. It seems that so many people don’t care what’s in it or what they are putting ON or IN their bodies. It only takes 26 seconds for the things that we put on our skin to absorb into the bloodstream. This PLASTIC bottle could contain fragrance (and therefore phthalates), triclosan, parabens..... just to make a few toxic chemicals that disrupt your hormones and can even lower your immune system!! That’s ironic isn’t it? Using a hand sanitiser to protect you from a virus whereas the hand sanitiser could lower your immune system. It’s up to us to take control of our health and support our bodies now more than ever. Filtered water so you can stay hydrated Sunshine Nature Appropriate Supplements Plenty of fresh fruit and veg (organic/spray free where possible) Healthy fats Limit sugar intake Ditching the toxic chemicals in your home and on your body Laughter Meditation and mindfulness Move your body Adequate sleep Limit or avoid alcohol Manage stress levels These are the things I do and advise my clients to do. I’ve also put a photo of the hand sanitizers that I do use. It’s up to YOU. P.S- Day two of the conscious and sustainable living today provided so much information on low tox living. It’s not too late to join. Message me for the details.
09.01.2022 A 2017 study indicates that spending 30 minutes outdoors may lower the risk of depression by 7% and high blood pressure by 9%. Another research paper suggests that a 90 minute walk in a natural setting may reduce the negative thoughts and brain activity associated with depression. Read more in my latest blog: ‘Unexpected ways that nature benefits mental health’. Link in comments.
08.01.2022 Greens from the garden: silverbeet, kale, Ceylon spinach and dandelion leaves. Did you get your greens in today?
07.01.2022 Today I was due to speak at my first ever international conference on holistic healing of cancer. This is an area I’m really passionate about. I spent 20 years working for pharmaceutical companies and worked on a lot of oncology trials. During this time I noticed that nobody ever asked the patients about their diet, their lifestyle, why they believe they got cancer or what support they had. Honestly, these types of questions were never explored. As a holistic cancer coach I ...am here to support you on your health journey. I’m not here to tell you which treatment option to choose. I am here to support you and help you with health and lifestyle choices that the mainstream medical system don’t and won’t look at. So although I can’t speak internationally at the moment, I am still here to support you. Please reach out anytime if you’d like to chat further about the work that I do. @elisegowphotography
07.01.2022 Are you eating the rainbow tonight?
06.01.2022 So they probably have a bit too much turmeric and ginger for children and will need tweaking but perfect immune gummies for adults! Will work on them a bit more but if you’re on the Sunshine Coast and would like to order any gummies let me know. The elderberry syrup ones are so good!
04.01.2022 My calendula is flowering! How stunning does it look. I’ve been using the leaves in salads. Now I’ll also use the flowers. I’ve just been reading that it makes a great tea which can ‘Improve resistance to bacteria, viruses and fungi by stimulating the white bloods of the immune system to fight these microbial invaders’ (Isabell Shipard) I have a vision where we all grow medicinal herbs and can help heal ourselves. How amazing would that be?... Any other ideas please to use the leaves or flowers?
04.01.2022 So excited for dinner! Brussel sprouts: love or hate?
03.01.2022 I’m back! I took a week off social media after having a challenging week last week. However to be honest I missed you and I missed people. I caught up with the Sunshine Coast Holistic Health Group at a beautiful cafe yesterday. Look at the view we had! It re-reinforced to me that although I like my own space and time, I really do love people too. I also realised this week that it’s ok to step away from social media; That it comes with positives and negatives and we need to learn how to handle that modern space we put ourselves in. Our next Sunshine Coast holistic health meet up is at @kimnatcafe on 17th September. Emma Manning from @nutritionalbesthealth will be giving a presentation on the priority matrix. If you’re local come and join us. We are a really friendly bunch and will make you feel right at home.
01.01.2022 Such a beautiful morning running the Sunshine Coast Holistic Health Meet up group monthly speaker event. Emma Manning from @nutritionalbesthealth presented on the ‘priority’ and ‘feel to achieve’ matrix. So much gold to now implement! We raised $240 for @wilvos.au which is fantastic as they do such great work providing rescue, rehabilitation and release services to injured, orphaned and distressed native animals.... A big thank you also to @kimnatcafe . New owners that provide great food as usual and always welcome and supports us. If you’re on the coast, come and join in all the fun. We meet twice a month: once for a coffee and chat and the other time for a presentation on a topic of interest. Message me for all the details.
01.01.2022 It would have been so easy to stay in bed this morning (we’re on holiday etc) but I never regret a sunrise, especially followed by a turmeric latte! An early start always sets me up for the day. It was cold though and my husband wasn’t too impressed about doing star jumps to warm up I thought spring had arrived?!
