25.01.2022 2020 Early School Leavers survey The Queensland Government is seeking the support of the school community for the annual survey of Year 10, 11 and 12 students who left school in 2019, before completing Year 12. This short, confidential survey collects information about what young people are doing the year after leaving school. The results of the survey help provide valuable information to improve services available to school leavers in the future. Between August and Septembe...r, these school leavers can expect to receive instructions to complete a web-based survey or a telephone call from the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office. Please encourage them to take part. If their contact details have changed, please assist the interviewer with their updated details or forward the survey to their new address so they can participate. Thank you for your support of Next Step post-school destination surveys in 2020. For more information, visit www.qld.gov.au/nextstep/ or telephone toll free on 1800 068 587.

19.01.2022 Dear Parents and Carers, With every new system and ways of working there are bound to be problems and issues that were unforeseen. At present there is an issue with the internet server in EQ due to an excessive amount of users trying to log on at one time. The department is working to fix the problem.... While we wait for this problem to be sorted out I have asked the teachers to email the work out to their students using their EQ email accounts. These emails will be sent at the start of the students’ scheduled lesson. For those students who don’t have access to emails or a computer then they can pick up a pack from their school. These packs will be ready for collection by Thursday/Friday. I apologise for any stress/inconvenience caused by this situation. Stay safe and healthy, Miles Karipa College Principal

15.01.2022 Update on term 2 classes from week 6 - 25th May 2020 Dear Parents and Carers, This is an update on term 2 classes from week 6 (25th May) at the college. As announced by the government, school will re-commence as normal for all classes next Monday. All classes will change back to their normal timetable schedules and classes will have face to face delivery by their normal teachers at their campus.... Teachers will not be expected to lead dual (face to face and home-based) modes of teaching and learning. Roll marking will return to usual arrangements. If a student does not attend, they will be marked absent. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time and the teachers are excited and glad to see all their students returning. As we are business as usual from the 25th of May our online format for all classes will no longer be running. To ensure the safety of everyone on our campuses, we are following the guidelines listed below; Physical distancing protocols continue to apply to adults in the school setting. It is important that all adults: Maintain 1.5m physical distance from each other, including in staff rooms and offices. Conduct meetings online or via telephone wherever possible. Increased cleaning of school classrooms and high frequency touch points such as water fountains/bubblers. Refrain from congregating in and around areas such as school gates, carparks and outside classrooms. For all our school community the following guidelines also apply: Practise effective hand hygiene and cough/sneeze etiquette. Stay away from the school if unwell. Regular handwashing and hand sanitising. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact your campus. Finally to all of our students, in particular our 2020 graduating seniors, the government, Education Queensland and schools will continue to work closely together to ensure that no students will be disadvantaged during this time. Stay safe and healthy, Miles Karipa College Principal

04.01.2022 Term 2 Update Dear Parents and Carers, This is an update as to how our campuses will roll out during term 2.... Term 2 will start Tuesday 21st April with the structure which follows the guidelines set out by the Government and Education Department. The Premier and Minister for Education have outlined the following for the first 5 weeks of Term. All students who are able to stay home and engage with the on-line learning arrangements put into place by the school should do so. The expectation is that people working from home would supervise their children at home. The exceptions are as follows: Children of essential workers on days when they are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made. (Essential worker- any worker who must continue to attend their workplace for essential business during this time). Vulnerable children include children identified by the school or who : o Are currently receiving services from Child Safety, including children who are subject to a child protection order. o Subject to a youth justice order. Children in designated indigenous communities. I would like to reassure parents and caregivers that you are not expected to teach your child while they are working from home. Our teachers have developed lessons that the students can follow with their help, so you can breathe a sigh of relief that you don’t have to take a crash course in 2020 English Literature and Mathematics. All of our students will be contacted by their teachers starting from Monday 20th April to establish the new routines and expectations. Finally, to all of our students, in particular our 2020 graduating seniors, the government, Education Queensland and schools will continue to work closely together so that you will not be disadvantaged during this time. Our part is to provide the support and the necessary resources and your part is to continue to put in the time and the effort to succeed. Stay safe and healthy, Miles Karipa College Principal
